I am always impressed by how stable this Honda is. It's a great bike. We are already booked for Shetland at end of April and are doing Orkney in September! This will be a tick on my bucket list for Shetland as we have done Orkney a few times.
Morning BM, would you believe, your comment was "held for review", YT can be mental at times. I just love the NC and it is so easy to ride and always get off with a smile on my face. Great news about the island trips, We will be going to Orkney April time but holding off until I can see how the weather is but will try to do both islands on same trip. It will be fun.
Morning Alex. Great ride, on a fantastic lane. Love the far reaching views. I too use Google Maps, but in conjunction with Google Earth Street View, so I can see what to expect, and get information like landmarks. A great resource for up coming rides.
Great video, totally agree about not taking a car up that road, would hate to meet an agricultural vehicle coming the other way even on a bike! Great views along the way. Nothing wrong with "an old bloke running about on a motorbike" 😄 Nick
Hello Nick, glad you enjoyed 👍There are lots of these type of lanes around me as Dundee is surrounded by countryside and they make for terrific little bike rides. This is one old bloke who is enjoying his bike and looking forward to better weather so I can get out on another adventure.
Great road that and they provide some garden chairs along the way. And I agree the views are worth the ride out. Regarding holidays abroad. I can't see why we in the UK can't do it cheaper. It's no wonder people go abroad. All they need to do is make it less costly and they should make more buisness. Even a campsite for a night is about 30 quid a night these days. better to do B&B, which I havent done for a while. Thanks for sharing another ride out. Cheers
The prices are mental, just like just about everything else. I do not do camping of any sort, I need a proper hotel haha. I had my share of B&Bs when working for BT. I was in one in Birmingham many years ago, a simple clean place and it had a landlady who loved Taggart (Scottish Detective series). The lass was broad brummy but had to watch Taggart with sub titles as she could not understand his accent, I had a real chuckle given just how strong her accent was.
Absolutely stunning ride and glad you have a holiday booked for you and your wife in August, always nice to have something to look forward to. Got my first ride of 2024 in the books today…a mere 30km with a temperature around 7 celius. Lots of snow and ice on side roads and the ditches but main roads were clear with beautiful sunny blue skies. Was great to be out. Next two days we have unusually high temperatures for Eastern Canada but lots of rain forecast with gusts of wind around 90kph so will have to wait a few more days to enjoy the bike again. Congrats on the first ride of 2024, temperatures are around the same without all the snow and ice, hopefully the place clears a bit for a bit more biking. I have a few things organised for this year thankfully so it going to be a busy one. Catch you on the next one :)
Shame about the state of the road at present, but what a great find. I can imagine many a person riding/walking along there and taking a seat on one of those benches and just taking a bit of time out from the world. And what a special place to do it, and I'm sure as you said, the camera didn't do it justice. Lovely little vid again Al, stay safe mate.
I regularly visit Newburgh with my wife to walk the dog and always look up at the hills and think there has t o be a road up there and managed to find one at last. I had the drone but it was far to windy for it, but next time.
Hi Alex, that view was well worth the cleaning time you would have put in after all that mud, and you didn't need to dodge any tractors either, unless you cheated and edited them out. Going to Orkney and Shetland at this time of year! I hope you have contingencies for getting stuck there. When I was travelling around the Northern and Western Isles for work I regularly had unplanned extra nights in hotels due to ferry and plane cancellations. On the positive side there won't be many others visitors. Have a good trip. Cheers, Mick
Morning Mick, roads were clear of tractors I am pleased to say and yes it took a bit of cleaning. Not going to the Islands for a few weeks yet so weather should be a little better, if not then we will just enjoy the extra time.

Lovely run along great lanes, Alex and mostly dry too - how did you manage that!! Musn't get down hearted over folks moving back and forth with subscribing as there's a whole load of RU-vid channels out there catering for a wide variety of tastes and to get folk to stay with you takes a lot of time and effort doesn't it. We know we do it for the pleasure of sharing and have rides to look back on for ourselves. Thanks for sharing this one. 👍
Morning Peter, the sub thing does not bother me in the slightest because you are spot on when you say it the pleasure of sharing and memories that counts. It was more of an observation on the behaviours of folk. It did not stay dry for long and rained before I got home. Weather looking okay today so hoping to take NT out for a spin. The NT and RE have only had one ride out in 2024 so need to get the wheels turning on both these bikes.
Another interesting little road, don't think I would ride it the way it is as my back wheel would be right in the mud at the center of the road. You didn't say which ferry you would take to Orkney but I can recommend Pentland Ferries from Gill's Bay near John O' Groats. Nice short trip and a good ride up over the Churchill Barriers from St Margaret's Hope to the Mainland. Some nice roads in Orkney and I found them to be quiet outside the cities. You're right about some of the prices for hotels up north, I've looked into redoing the NC500 but hotels are hard to get and very expensive. However most are not quite so bad as Switzerland and North Italy. On this summers trip I will be riding the Timmelsjoch and Stelvio, have a hotel booked near the start of the Stelvio with the next night in Valbella Switzerland, both much more than I would normally spend but locations best fit the distances for the days rides.
Evening Jim, yeah not best route for the Can-Am. I have not made any arrangements for Orkney yet but Gillies Bay maybe an option. I did the Churchill barriers last year and was looking at the videos last night as it happens with a view to releasing another video but the wind noise is pretty bad (it was during Storm Babet) so that one may not happen, will see if I can salvage anything. That is a cracking summer trip to look forward too, I have not done anything regards my Euro trip although I have a rough outline I did before Christmas for Norway going north or Switzerland going south, just cannot make up my mind.
What a great view Alex, though it's a pity the road was so mucky, still a great road for the KTM. The bike would have needed a good wash after that one.
Aye it was covered in mud but it was not till next day to get it washed as it was raining by the time I got home. We can head up there sometime so that you too need to wash the bike 🤣🤣🤣

Hello Rob, I was in Brechin on Tuesday on the NT 1100 and did some filming but not sure it will make YT. There are loads of fantastic roads in our area and am still finding them and when I do then will share them here. Many thanks for the kind words and will try keep them coming.
