At @ 2:37 the bell housing of the CV axle can get stuck in the transmission. OEM Tools 37058 and 37033, a slide hammer and a clip can knock it out in less than a minute. You can' rent them at the auto parts stores. Lifesaver. Be blessed.
Oh man look at the size of that punch!! How are the Cardone axles holding up? I need to replace both of mine but ive never done one before. Watching your videos makes me feel like i can handle it!
I just replaced this on my 03 pilot. The one I purchased didn’t have that dust seal on the end and I didn’t notice it until I had it installed already. Can I purchase a new one anywhere? Or is it possible to install an alternative cover
The reason it is bone dry is because the part you disconnected is not directly connected to the transmission. You only removed half of the shaft; the other half is connected to the transmission.
Almost gave up! Tried using a metal rod to punch out the axle. Keep on sliding of cause it didn't have a solid edge. I ended up using a chisel just to catch that little edge on the cup and after a few hits . . . Victory!!! . . . . How reliable is that aftermarket replacement?
I accidentally pulled the axle out about an inch when I was changing the control arm. Will I have to take off the hub to push it back in? I really need some advice
@therifle1374 You figure it out? I have the same issue after balancing and rotating all the tires and replacing both front wheel bearings and it's still vibrating @60mph.
@@fixinit I put Duralast in AutoZone brand working okay so far. I figure with lifetime warranty not that difficult to replace them after doing it once. Rock auto is okay but having to pay shipping back to them for warranty is a hassle plus if you don't have the box. Just got done with the timing belt and valve adjustment. This is now easy to do after doing those two repairs.
@fixinit I should have tried that as well. Got frustrated and assembled everything back together. But i did replace the front struts and front control arms. Will try the slide hammer next time.
@@harryl8234If you dont need the old axle, there is a trick using locking piles you can use. Basically, rip the rubber seal on the cv from were it connect to that model dust cover near the transmission, then clamp the pilers were the rubber is to stop the axle from coming out. Then you can use the old axle as a pull hammer. If this made no sense, search RU-vid for the trick, there are a few videos showing it
@T W He didn't show (or didn't show in his video), the torquing and specs for the caliper bolts. On this Pilot: The front caliper bracket bolts: 100 lb.-ft., The front caliper guide pin bolts: 52 lb.-ft., Bolts that attach the spindle to the strut assembly: 156 lb-ft. Lug nuts: 94 lb-ft. Always double-check all torque specs as sometimes you'll find small variances for some vehicles, depending on trim levels and certain modifications
I struggle to understand why it's gotta cost so much to get it replaced by a mechanic/dealership. Labor yadada, you (minding the edits of course)made the shit look like a 150$ job, not including the part itself. How long did it take you would you say? Or rather, would it have if not recording for video? Cause that LOOKED pretty straightforward and brief, and I'm tempted to give a crack with a buddy who was a mechanic for 2 years
Dealers used book pricing they charge you by the book no matter how much time it takes. Once had backup switch go bad in my 2008 Subaru Impreza STI the computer went crazy lit up my dash with warnings. I called the dealer it was $12 part they wanted $1200 to replace it. I asked how long the job was they said 1 hour the book charged for 12 hours it told them to drop the transaxle. They used a series of extensions and universals to get it out without dropping it.
@@fixinit yep that's a axel going out I've spent 4k on my wifes 2009 honda pilot with a very trusted garage chasing a bad violent shake at 80 mph have replaced every single thing but axles they don't pop when turning no damage or accidents or hitting of anything I'd hate to pay another 1000 to do axles and not fix it there out of ideas but that. Tires have been balanced 4 times aliment new everything all around lower and upper C arms tie rods shocks springs brakes you name it
@@fixinit did that and I'm sore from yanking on that thing it's like the cup is still in place but the axle is pulling out a little but that's not right it shouldn't do that help
You need to attach the puller to the base (close to the trans). Otherwise the axle will just slide in/out a little. You can also try what this guy did with an Acura…. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fr20mY_m0G0.html
Has anyone had a hard time removing the rear axles on a 06'-08'? I've beat mine pretty hard, put a puller on it, used a bit of heat even. Don't want to Sledge hammer it.
