Thanks for sharing this one! Just changed my fuel pump on my 02 without any issues after watching for easy tips.

You are the man! I watched your video. I told my shop not to replace the filter and pump I'll do that myself and just pay them a diagnostic fee. Saved me a lot of money. Thank you. Please make more videos

Thank you for sharing this--last weekend, my bike stalled out while I was riding along. Lucky I was on some local roads vs. the freeway. Asked my dad and this was his guess. Much appreciated!

Oh, man...been struggling with the same thing and thought it was my fuel, so changed the filter, plugs and looked at the part, thought it was the fuel pump, but at least it's not leaking yet. Solved it for me and almost went for the old "it's your carb and it must need rebuilding" ruse but most cycle shops just want you to bring it in for diagnostic. The backfires and stalls were so annoying and just like the other stories here, had the same thing going on. It'd restart, then shutdown after parking then all over again. As long as I rode and didn't shut it down for any reason I was rolling, but every once in awhile, like every trip, loss of power while on the throttle and I'd really hate it when a light changed, hit the throttle it would sputter and die until waiting a few minutes then might restart, and idle rough so I'd pull the choke out more and had me adjusting my idle screw which would have me at higher torque and clutch engagement was scary. So thank you with all my riding heart, friend. Your video saved me going to the shop and I can do this so easy peasy, can't wait til the dealer opens up in the morning. God bless you and "Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down" brother...appreciate your video here a lot.

This helps out a lot. I’ve been trying to figure out what that hose was for. I was going down the road an my pump just fell off. Disconnected the electric an that hose. Took me forever to the connection for it. Was hidden behind some other wires. But my bike died on my way to work this morning too. This really helped. Cause I was thinking my fuel pump was going out. You just confirmed what I was thinking. Thanks so much for the video.

Great video, thanks. 2007 shadow 750 DCA. Was running okay then died and won't start. Will run for a moment on starter fluid. How can you tell if the problem is the Carb or the fuel pump?

Is there anything special to do when putting a new one on? I replaced it but I'm not getting fuel to the engine. Granted it's one of those bad eBay ones. I just wanted to get something on there to see if she'd run.

Hey we the same bike we put both could on fuel filter and it still won't start or stay started could it be the pump or the ignition module or what can u help us please
@HighEndDigitalArchitect

After successful fuel pump replacement do you just start the engine or do you wait for the fuel to get to the pump first? Never done it before so don't want to screw this over.

Having similar issue on a 2012 Honda 750 Shadow, fuel injected. I will be going along, stall out, the engine not not completely die but I can't give it more then an 1/8 throttle without killing it. Seems to be more of an issue when the Air Temp is 90 and up. I can't say 100 percent temperature is a factor but those are the only times it is acting up. The Bike only has 2500 miles. It's first 6 years it only got 400 miles, Then I brought it and put the rest on it this summer.

My 07 shadow spirit 750 died on the highway while traveling 65-70 mph. Waited, and started back up after several minutes but sputtering/hesitating on high speeds only. Following day I checked my fuel pump to see if it's working - I turned the petcock to OFF position, disconnected the fuel filter and left the gasoline in the hose going to the fuel pump. Started the bike and the left over gas from the hose got sucked into the fuel pump. Is that an indication that the fuel pump is working??
@XhectorX1417
@XhectorX1417 5 лет назад
You should be able to feel suction in the hose from the fuel pump. Also make sure the fuel filter isnt clogged.

Hello and thank you. I cannot find where the wire coming off the fuel pump gets connected to. When I removed the tank, it fell over and disconnected the wire and now I do not know where it goes. You show it being disconnected but cannot tell where you disconnected it from. please help! Thanks!

Nice video! Any chance a bad fuel pump could affect the ignition/start fuse on the bike..? I have a 2006 Honda VT750DC (Shadow Spirit) It's the 10A that is second to far left in the fuse holder. I went on a ride the other night and my bike died on me. I turned restarted it, it would idle and then would die with any throttle. Then it just wouldn't start. Towed it home and found that the ignition/start fuse was blown. Replaced it and it immediately blew again. Replaced it once more and the bike started... I revved it a couple times then it died and had a blown fuse. I figured if the pump is bad and has a short it could possibly be related..? I looked at the wiring diagram and it appears that that fuse is on the fuel relay which is connected to the pump. It could just be a lose wire touching ground... but the fact that it sputtered and died, makes me thing it wasn't getting enough fuel... any help is appreciated!
@XhectorX1417
@XhectorX1417 6 лет назад
Stephen Smith if its blowing out its probably a bad wire somewhere. You could try bypassing the fuel pump. Make sure tank is full and see if that works. That would opt out the pump as the problem...good luck
@Steve-kj9tx
@Steve-kj9tx 6 лет назад
Thanks for the reply. I ended up taking it to a shop. They first replaced the pump relay... then once that part came in and was installed they realized the fuel pump itself was shot. So they put a new pump in and it's working great! I probably could have done it myself... but being a previously owned bike, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a mechanic look over the whole bike and make sure it's safe and everything was tight and right. Cheers to many miles!
