Important tip. Inside the trunk’s rear right side (mine is a 2003) there’s an access door / panel that you remove / pop out to access the underside of the panel to gently push to help undo rear rubber seal. ALSO, come to find out the K & N (anywhere between $45 - 65) filter does not fit properly since it’s missing the upper center screw post / housing!!! Ugh! HifloFiltro has it but NOT K & N. I returned the K&N and just bought the OEM filter at Walmart (google / Walmart / OEM Air Filter Fit For Honda FJS400 FJS600 Silverwing) for $17.99 with free shipping using PayPal. Just a heads up guys and gals. Cheers!

It’s not as bad as it appears onscreen. No need to remove the grab bar. See comment above with the tip. So much easier to pop off the panel with braking clips and such.

This isn't so bad. My 2002 bmw k1200lt required both side fairing removal and upper Tupperware. Then a huge brace and next THE GAS TANK HAS TO BE REMOVED. Famn Germans. Couldn't sell that bike fast enough.

Great video! Haven't bought one yet, hopefully soon, looks like it's easier than my GL1800, but still quite a bit of disassembly for an air filter. Are there any other maintenance items that could be taken care of while it's at this stage of disassembly? Anyway, Thanks!

Man thats a lot of trouble to get to a filter eh ..Not Hard work or anything but dam 10 screws to hold that on is a bit overkill . Anyways thank you for showing me this as i will need to know it in the near future . Cheers.

Well the near future was yesterday .. Picked up an '05 Silver Wing .. payed 2500$ for it, used obv, and what a bargain it was . So now im going to check out the filter Thanks to you i now know How . Great videos and i really appreciate this . Im an I.T guy not a mechanic so you help me a ton with your explanations and not expecting everyone to know it all, you cover the basics.. not one of those "just remove this" and pull this kind of vids . Cheers .

I was wondering if the air filter is supposed to fit all the way in? I put an ha-6002 on today but can’t get it to fit in on all edges.

Hello Rafik, you should refer to the maintenance intervals set by Honda to determine when you should be replacing the air filter.

Paul Maudsley thanks for letting me know that my video actually helped someone out 👍. I don't have a video on "how to remove the front fairing". That might be something I should consider making. It's something I'll have to seriously consider as I've finally got my scoot quiet, you know they're notorious for squeaks and rattles, but I'll add that to my list of requests.

MSG MotoVlogs yes my is a bit squeaky and vibrates a lot on take off but its fine when above 25mph. Iam doing a belt and rollers change over winter plus a full service with all electrical connections cleaned and sprayed with wd40 or similar. The front plastics look a bit more complex than the rear and very easy to snap lugs and clips etc. I want to do the fork oil as well but this depends how hard that is ha. Thanks for the quick replys and the video tutorials it's quite hard to find information over here in the UK because the silverwing didn't sell in massive numbers' popular bikes you can buy something called a Haynes manual there brilliant but they didn't publish 1 for this bike.. Paul Maudsley oh do I ever know what you're talking about. During my first month of ownership, I experienced the shuddering and lumpy take-off that many owners complain about. I read somewhere that this was caused by a glazed over inner clutch bell (likely caused by the build up of heat on this component during stop and go traffic). After further investigation on several Silver Wing Forums, users suggested that they temporarily solved that problem by applying the parking brake and then going a little throttle for 5secs. The goal here was to clear off the glazed over surface inside the clutch bell which would reduce clutch slippage and increase clutch grip. I did it and to my surprise the symptoms during acceleration went away. Sounds like a full restoration, have you ridden a Burgman 650?

Walmart online has them (OEM Air Filter Fit For Honda FJS400 FJS600 Silverwing) but it takes painfully forever to receive by USPS. I ordered instead the Hiflofiltro air filter. They’re manufactured to fit the factory air box and are a direct replacement for original equipment filters but 10 bucks more. Be safe.

Generally speaking i think the bike is very service friendly, spark plugs, oil changes and brake pad replacements are all 5 minute jobs. So this taking a little longer is not bothering me that much.

Wow, a lot of screws to get to the air filter. Got to take off so many body peace’s. Not very user friendly Honda is usually better than this. My Burgman may have two screws.

Not as bad as it looks. Once you get the panel off you can clean / inspect. This scooter is an amazing piece of craftsmanship. Hats off to the engineering team and designers.
