Watching this as I'm considering buying an ST 11 to do long haul trips in Europe. That piece of card you used was inspired. Excellent video. Just goes to show what you can actually achieve with correct tools and a bit of time and patience.

Thanks Jungleland33, its a great bike, unfortunately mine had a lot wrong with it , wasn't looked after by the previous owner, but after a lot of work its a lot better, i find the piece of card helpful, used it again in the latest project, glad you enjoy the video's

Great Job! Thanks a lot. The slave cylinder of my 1990 st1100 was leaking lately. I could not believe that the screw at Position 11 was not really accessible without loosening the left exhausts!🤪

Thanks Christian, Hope you enjoyed it, i was amazed by what i found, and yes the exhaust has to come off, which makes the job even longer,

great video lost my clutch on my st going down the road only 67 k but 99reg notice fluid leaking around slave cylinder area have ordered repair kit but held up on rounded nut on lower grey fairing , what you think has happened ?

It seems to be a common problem on ST's, i also replaced the clutch hose for a HEL version and also put an extra rubber hose over the top as the hose sits near the exhaust and is prone to heat issues, you should see the state of the clutch slave, really gunked up in the video. also changed out the thermostat switch for one from a Honda Deauville, kicks the fan in early, never had a problem since

undoing the centernut on mine had, even with rearwheel locked, a lot of play when using a big torque wrench, almost a quarter of a turn so hardly made it come undone in the space i had. is it the play on the driveshaft/drivegear rubbers? cause hope it goes on a bit easier

Hallo Amateur Bike Builder, what a fine explanation and interesten, easy to follow, after looking on the internet i found this Clear explanation while encounter Some difficulties... i have a question, at the moment the belt is open of my 92 Pan beasty. by accident i turn the cranckshaft with the T1 mark, while changing the timebelt. thought it was in 5 th gear. This without the belt. Before start changing the belt i had to renew a bearing on the right side camshaft reduction gear axle. there i noticed that the ontward level marking was a Little bit up than horizontal. due to the worn bearing? Anyways, is it so that now i only have to turn the cranckshaft a cycle clockwise? Hope to hear an answer from you. greetz Rick - Netherlands

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, i just wanted to document everything i was doing, i learn as i go, this was my first time working on an ST1100, so educational, as for the issue you have i did not venture that far so you would need to consult the manual, or there are some really good ST forums on Facebook

Please don’t use a torque wrench for undoing high torque nuts or bolts, this is bad advice. Spend £25 and buy a long breaker bar, keep your torque wrench for tightening tasks.
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 6 месяцев назад
That was my mistake, i did use a breaker bar, but as had more leverage but said torque wrench in the video by mistake, apologies

Great video, as always. Would it be a safe guess that episode 9 will cover the timing belt replacement? (y)
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 5 лет назад
Thanks Peter, Glad you enjoyed it, this bike is certainly full of surprises and headaches, as per the timing belt, this is where it gets strange, the belt was changed just before i bought it and i have all the receipts for it,i did remove the top covers off camera to have a look and it is new, but with the clutch the frictions were nearly new, the steels had not been replaced neither had the springs and were worn and you saw the state of the slave cylinder, the main aim at the moment it to solve the clutch issues and the overheating, so a Deauville Thermostat switch will be going in soon

@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder Another thing that is worth a video while having the bike stripped is "Inspection and replacement of the vacuum fuelcock diaphragm" They tend to rip after a couple of years, causing the engine to die at "higher speeds and inspired driving". Replacement part is called "FCK-36", easily found on ebay. PM me on Facebook so I can send you my instruction. Cheers!
