My wife can’t understand why I’m watching a snow blower repair video (I’m in Australia) Ya never know when your gunna need that skill :) And it’s fun to watch!
@@WAVETUBE84 As of November 2021, not anymore, since the government turned full socialist/fascist over the COVID farce. I am sincerely hoping that the Aussie folks can take their country back. In the meantime, the U.S. is right behind them.
" It´s made out of metal, so we can fix it..." Glorious :) As an european, I have to say Mustie1´s american english is *very* easy to understand, one of the reasons why I just love to watch his videos :)
You do have a gift for making videos very educational to watch! I have no need for a snow blower in TX, but really enjoyed watching this one. I love watching all your videos! Your skills are really appreciated, thank you.
Enjoyed your tube , after retirement from power plant operations I've been making old new again, mostly helping friends and nabours. Wish you good health.
You have a gift. Maybe I’m crazy, but I feel like I’m in the garage and we’re just chatting about the project. I just get lost in this stuff. Much appreciated.
Love this site ... Mustie you Rock ..... The teaching here is amazing ...Great tradesman and I say " Only in America" A lot of good fabrication skills comin thru Cheers Alberta Dave
Quite the machine! Looks kinda like a snowmobile with that single headlight. I have a hand me down STX-38 JD but the mower deck wore out. It was patched numerous times. Had a hard time finding spindles for it. So I bought a new X350 with tire chains, weights, bagger attachment, snow plow and winter cab. Should last me the rest of my living years. I still have the STX-38, thinking of adding a belt driven pressure washer to it since the deck has been scrapped. The 12 HP Kohler Command still runs great! Your videos give inspiration to many ideas rolling around in my head.
Nice video! Bought a TORO 520H , 30 years ago and it's still running strong. It does 1 acre of lawn all summer and a 300ft DRIVEWAY in the winter..ONAN 20HP.
I would have killed to be your apprentice in my younger days! I just can't thank you enough for letting me tag along.I hope there are kids out there that realize what a opportunity it is to see what you can do, and learn from it. Incredible! thank you! Nobody is doing this.
Mustie When your yard sailing you always seem to find the craziest and best stuff your storage Warehouse must be full of some of the best past fines a treasure house Joe... Navy veteran
Dam good tractor :-D, Honda has been very reliable, allways been a good company. I dont think you ever need to worry about the rebuild you have done, its stronger than the original and will outlast the rest of the machine. I would say its better than original, its the way they should of made it.
Another great video - thanks. If you ever get tired of messing around with that snow you can move to my neck of the woods in Southwest Florida. My neighborhood could use a guy like you!
This is an interesting re-build to watch. Too bad Honda didn't put some 'beef' into these machine back when they built them. Looks like you've done a good job here, and like i said, it's a good video to watch in case anybody wanted to start repairing their machines. Thumbs up on this one!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who deals with a gravel driveway. Until the ground really freezes up it sounds like WWIII in my blower. I did a very similar wheel setup on my rig. All the best, Jay
I'd kill to be your apprentice now, but it feels like I am. Many o leaf blowers and weed whackers are getting a second life around the house.thanks to you. Really..thank you.
Is there ANYTHING that you can not fix??. YOU have skills that I envy beyond measure. I just found a David Bradly 2 wheel tractor the other day, I wish I could bring it to you for a tune up, more like a complete overhaul,
Wow, that is a Dam (sp on purpose) nice tractor! Had not heard of it before. So many usability options built right in and 4 wheel drive also! Excellent work on that blower! Should last now you for as long as you will ever need it and then some!
This is a fave video of mine - awesome work. I added rubber paddles to my impeller and the snow is thrown crazy far. Wish I had a 4 ws Honda like that. That was the era of the prelude with 4ws as well eh ?
Thanks for the video - you made quick work of that repair, looks nice. The rt5000 is 10hp air cooled single cylinder, the 5013 is a bored out rt5000 engine 13hp air cooled, and the 5518 is water cooled twin cylinder 18hp version. Amazing what work these small single cylinder engines can do. I sure with Honda would have kept making this line, but seems the market didn't have the demand so rather than upgrade or modify the tractors they scrapped the line. I have the 5518 and would really like power steering, but otherwise a great tractor.
Hey Mustie. You have a nice blower there. I put a blower in my lawn tractor a couple of weeks ago. I love it. You did a nice repair on your blower. I subbed your channel so I could follow you along. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
Im impressed with that plasma torch. The ThermalArc i have at the shop tells me to go shit in my hat if there's even a spec of rust between it and ground. Well done.
Great video as usual, really nice fabricating. Teaching as you go. I won't tell the comment about blowing forward when you can turn it that way to keep covering your house or stored things. Keep it up... mike
I like this channel bc his (teaching)-skills are at engineer level++ , -and the topics go from the smallest airfan to the biggest machine ... . And his "wanna have fun " attitude (laughing while working) is so relaxing . like Shit happens , but we take it as a learning lesson, shake it of, laugh about it ... and try again anyways.
i LIVE IN MINN. AND THEY POUR SALT IF WE GET A DUSTING OF SNOW , bLACK TRUCKS LOOK WHITE . Needless to say rust is a BIG problem , Thanks for your vids ! George .
I have been trying to get through a lot of your videos, but I just watched your two cents on being a mechanic. Having run my own shop for the last few years, and loving every minute of it, I can relate to the health issues. Mine is arthritis in my hands, but back pain is letting me know I have abused it too much for too long. Making a conscious decision to retire isn't easy, but sometimes is very necessary to preserve a quality of life that allows you to enjoy living. I worked in a factory for thirty years driving a lift truck, and that took it's own toll on me. After I left the factory, I started my handyman business which evolved into more small engine repair than anything else. Going back to my mechanical roots was very rewarding, and even allowed me to connect with an old friend I had worked with before. Cold Michigan winters finally got to my body and I discovered new levels of pain in new places every day. Now that I have "retired", I am keeping busy by doing things for myself. I have several antique garden tractors I am restoring, as well as a 72 Mustang that belonged to a friend of mine that passed away. It took me two years to convince all of my customers that I was retired, and I still do some work for two of my oldest customers. The bottom line is, take care of yourself, because no one else will. I find myself watching you tube videos from people near my age and with like interest, such as you, Harvey, Jeff Bradshaw, and Roadking. It's nice to see what others are up to. Keep up the good work, and take care of yourself.
Nice tractor, my dad has a 97 5518, he got a blower later on for a decent deal and only needed to get a shaft made. Blows great! Works great. I'll have to show him your wheels because he wants to make his blower a bit higher
Great job ... cool piece of machinery ... i like the cab ... maybe add some flood lights on the cab ... look like a few quick passes down the driveway & your done .. funs over, before you know it ... lol ... keep warm
I know what you mean by having a rough time getting that PTO to line up! At my work a few of our plows are down for repairs so I had to hook up an old 3 point Econo plow snowblower to our tn65d and it was a pain in the ass to hook up specially by myself and the bottom is bowed just like yours just not as bad, actually helps a bit with the contour of the roads
I did that thing with adding to the "throwing" rotor .I used three pieces cut off of a thick car mud flap and fastened them via the one hole that was already in each rotor blade, fastened with washers and a nylock nut. This will be year 4 for it and it seems to work fine. I also saw the idea on You Tube. Just thought I'd mention it to you.
That is quite a tractor. I had a 4514 with a 4 foot blower. Only two wheel drive. I got too old to install the frame under it every fall so I sold it a couple of years ago. If I had your tractor I would still have it. My blower had a johnson bar to raise it so I used a electric/ hydraulic lift off of a outboard motor to raise the blower.
Next time you need to work on your three bladed blower fan, try using rubber sidewall from a tire. You bolt it on and make it real tight to the housing. After a while it wears in and makes a better seal than the welded on plates. Did that to my 3 PTH snowblower a couple of years ago and it really makes a difference.
Those old Hondas are great little machines. I have a Honda riding mower that I bought back early 90,s and it's still going strong. Too bad they no longer make them. Mine has a two cylinder, water cooled engine.
On my old Craftsman snowblower, there was a gap of about 1/2" between the tips of the impeller and the housing. Not very efficient at throwing the snow and occasionally a piece of gravel would get jammed in there. Rather than weld on steel pads like you did to close the gap, I bolted on pads of rubber (tire sidewall, but a piece of conveyor belt would work). It throws 50% farther, and no more gravel jams.
love your shop set-up, looked at one of your older videos and I know what that brass oxen is , it is a water buffalo, and you did a great job on the snow blower set-up.
l hit a dog run cable and watched it pull the tractor like l was a fish on a line, had to use a cutting wheel to get that sucker out, and it wasent even my yard,
Don’t know if I told you before but that is one bad-ass lil tractor! If I ever find one(in decent shape) I don’t think I’d hesitate in picking it up. 👍👍 Really enjoy your videos!..👍 Sub’d for a while now...always looking forward to your next unbelievable treasure you are rebuilding or restoring. Many thanks for a few great ideas you have passed on as well..love the ‘wax-ring’ undercoating for the salt-zone.👍👍 Take good care!...watching for the next...🤙🤙
Excellent, wish we was neighbors. I do a lot of scrapping and you wouldn't believe what I take to the junkyard for cash. Occasionally I do keep a few toys for my self, I don't have space to store everything.
Nice. My snowblower is an old Montgomery Ward Model. It could use some TLC. The snow shoot needs some attention and the Trans needs some attention. I don’t have a heated garage so it will need the repairs done by someone else this spring. Looks like ill be using the shovel this winter, boo hiss!!!
I was a Mechanic at a Honda Dealer/Rental place in the 80's when the RT5000 came out, we got one unit, 4x4 with a Brush Hog mowing deck, because of the price these machines cost it never sold so then made it a rental. The biggest problem we had when these Tractors were sill new was getting good tires for them ( which I see is a problem now), they were only 2ply and every time that thing was rented it would come back with at least 2 of the tires flat and at times all 4 would be flat, tires were hard to get back then and they weren't cheap. We had to stop renting it and sold it off as is, the people that bought it had the same problems we did they couldn't keep tires on it even when Slime came out it didn't help it. It was a cool machine when it came out way ahead in design but not good with a brush hog that's for sure.
The three patch panels you made at 18:34 I have used the sidewall of an old tire, I cut 3 to fit with an overlap so it closed off the second stage barrel. drilled and then bolted them on. they will form into the barrel and give you more throw distance. Tends to last 2-3 seasons, replace as needed. And being flexible if by chance a stone gets up there it doesn't damage anything but what gets hit when they are expelled out the shoot.
