The 400s are damn good quads. Perfect amount of torque. My yfz450 is too fast. It's made to ride fast and keep the rpms up. Not good for putting around on trails. 400ex is a very good balance between race and trail

The problem is that on any straight the 450s just put bus lengths on a 400. I got off my trx450r riding with a buddy with a 400 and tried his and it felt the brake calipers were frozen in comparison

I’ve had my 450 since they came out and got it brand new off the lot and it’s still beating 95% everything I race lol I LOVE IT

@@michaelhagan9596 if you don’t just hold it on the limiter you don’t have to rebuild them much. The valve will Have to be done once in a while but rebuilds aren’t super often.

I would be running a glann Innovations or a tm designs polymer cace saver. The ome cace saver will brake the case on 400 and 450.

Appear when both machines are the top end, the 450 is not pulling much anymore. Both have similar top speed, just the 450 gets there a lot faster.

dirtbagian the raptors have a solid axle. The Honda’s are independent. Depends on how you like it. I have a raptor and love it. I’d like to also buy the 700xx.

Love my 08 440ex its built with a stage 2 hot cam port and polished head with fmf header and hmf exhaust its alot scarier than it was when i got it cant keep the front end down in 1st and 2nd just learning how to do wheelies

The 06 and up should be even faster because of the carb change that was done, we put the sidewinder carb on our 05 450 to get that throttle response and went down a tooth on the front sprocket for better pull on the bottom, but we were racing so, it topped out at 70 mph, but we was set unto get to the corner the fastest and get out of it

Ok bro.. its obvious you love wheelies.. I dont know what you have been taught.. but you do have chuck.. set on the quad or bike not running and have them lift the front end. You will feel the balance point and by throttle control and rear brakes you should be able to perfect the wheelie your looking for.love your vids keep it up. Cheers from PA

Cool rides. I had a 2001 400ex with jetted carb, fmf titanium exhaust with power bomb header. It was a wheelie machine. Bought a 2004 450r brand new and it was so much faster. Broke my first bone on it. 400ex was slower but better overall. 450r was geared to tall and power came on too strong for my style of riding. I could ride wheelies forever on my 400ex as long as I was on level ground.

These were my first two bikes the 450 being the first. I bought the 400 to ride when my 450 was broke and also used it for a wheelie bike. Since then I’ve had numerous 700’s, 660’s, yfz450’s, ltr450’s and I’ve gotta say the Honda’s I had were the most reliable and took the most abuse. The big bore Yamaha’s had terrible transmissions compared to my 700xx also it was just heavy as hell. Can’t beat a Honda.

400ex has been by far the most reliable quad I’ve ever owned. Now I’ve got a built 87 250r bored and stroked to 394. Changing elevations, weather is a pain in the ass. But worth the work

Stanimir srry but the 400 ex will loose all the way around 450 are made for racing high performance engine that’s why you have to change the oil every ride or 24 hrs 400ex is a trail bike

I have an 05 rm85. It starts, idles and runs fine but when u take off and start going thru the gears, after 20-25 seconds it acts as if it runs out of gas. I’ve cleaned the carb b twice and made sure everything looked as it should. I also changed the spark plug because I saw in a video where once the plug heats up it can jump spark. Wasn’t that. Is there a way to send u a video, maybe show exactly what it does? I don’t have snap chat or instagram but I do have Facebook. I’m just having a tuff time figuring it out. I just bought the bike for my son and the snow is on its way.

Welcome to 2 years in future. That can happen when your fuel tank isn't venting. First thing I'd do is take the cap off the gas tank when it starts to bog...see if it's simple as that.

I bet if you changed the gearing and jetted the carb up one, you would keep up with the 450r. I Love Honda, I got a 250r,450r,400ex with a big bore kit. Wouldn't trade em for nothing.

It would have to have a big bore kit,jetted,piped and geared, before it would even be close to the torque and power of a 450r.I have a feeling this 450r he has is hurt!!!it should still be alot faster than it is, and should pull the front-end up no problem,!!!!! In every gear,I have ben riding since 1989.

@@johnbruzzi4381 but it doesn't high rev, at all!!! And he can't get a wheelie in 2nd??no way. I just did a hinson basket,and wisco clutch, for mine both are life time warranty, best 450r upgrade for the trans, he need to inspect that basket for clutch walk!!

Clutch up the wheelies in 2nd & you can ride it out once you hit the balance point. Instead of power wheeling & you don’t have to keep gassing it. Clutch wheelies are easier & cleaner wheelies with complete control. From my quads to my Zx10R clutch wheelies are the same concept. You can wheelie as fast or slow as you want, hold it or ride out every gear. Just shift into 2nd when you feel the power coming on snap the clutch & pull holding the gas at (ONE SPOT) after a few days you’ll be wheeling your whole road.

Well you might as well race the 450 without the case saver if you’re gonna get a stock one. Those don’t protect anything man but an aluminum one from amazon. They’re 15-20 bucks.

You should try dry shifting up a gear when you run out of gear on a wheelie. Im sure it will improve your distance.

when you are doing a wheelie. hold the throttle instead of pumping it, and trust me it might take some time but youll be sending it

Off the line the 450 from dead stop really pulls because it handles a 2nd gear launch better. But bother are great bikes. 400 for trailer and 450 for racing
