Honda VTX 1300 Oil Change

This is a short video that will show you the kind of stand you need to lift your motorcycle to a workable height and exactly how much oil to use as well as which tools you'll need. There is no need for a special jack or anything like that. My hope is that this small video will guide you to change your oil on your own as opposed to paying $60 plus at a dealership =)

Your video inspired me to change the oil on my VTX 1300. However, you only need to raise the bike if you are using a traditional oil pan with a high lip. I used a $2 paint tray from Home Depot. The paint tray is flat enough that it slid under the bike just fine and I still had plenty of room to loosen the oil bolts and unscrew the oil filter. Hope this helps!

I don't mean to nitpick so pardon me if I'm missing something but I JUST finished changing the oil and filter on my brother's VTX 1300 and there was no lifting necessary whatsoever. Unless you have Hulk hands or your bike is super low, all you need is a 2-3" thick brick for the stand so that the bike is level and a piece of wood for the other side to prevent tipping. That's it. Both bolts are accessible w/out lifting. What's more, I was able to use my brother's Toyota filter socket wrench and worked beautifully with loosening the filter. I'm not saying to buy this but this is the cup wrench he has - the VTX's filter fit right inside of this cup. Was lucky to have it. Not saying that using pliers to take off the filter isn't ok, but if you're going to install the new one, please don't use pliers to tighten it and risk denting or piercing it. It should be hand-tightened anyway once the gasket has been lubed, but no more than 20 ft/lbs of force is needed to tighten it. Thanks for putting this video up though, Charlie - very helpful for those that don't know. www.ebay.com/itm/Floureon-Cap-Oil-Filter-Wrench-Socket-Removal-Tool-with-14-Flutes-for-Toyota/371841523735?_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226&_trkparms=aid%3D555014%26algo%3DPL.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150817211623%26meid%3D305dedea13024af9bb5e199c940546fd%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26

I just got a 1300c and about to do an oil change this weekend. Can I do it without raising the rear wheel?

Nice guy. Little too much talk, not enough action. Didn't show where the filter is on the bike. Apparently, since my first time, it's an external one, hence the filter wrench. My other bike oil filter is under the cover of crank case. Have to use Allen wrenches to remove. But thanks for tools necessary. Oil amount. 3.3 quarts, or whatever 300 ml converts to.

Still waiting for part 2 or just a photo of the bricks and plank used as a jack. Not sure if this video taught me anything useful. And likesomeone said down below - the math is incorrect on oil amount.

YOUR MATH IS WRONG ..... You should not be left with 300 ML of oilYou calculated the total amount in ML based upon there being a full 1000 ml =1 liter in each bottle. THAT IS INCORRECT.... there is only 946 ML in each bottle. Total VTX capacity = 3.9 QTS or 3.7 Liters. ....its easiest to calculate in US quarts but each calculation i'll break down below:Quarts Calculation:1 qt = 32 oz .... so 3 full bottles + .9 or 90% of the 4th bottle is correct - which will leave you with 10% of the 4th bottle left over. 10% of 32oz = 3.2 oz left over in the bottle. 3.2 Oz is equivalent to 94.6 ml left over.... so a hair under 100 mark when you are pouring.NOT 300 ML left over. YOU ARE GIVING INCORRECT INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE TO FOLLOW.I hope this helps.

The key to an instructional video is to show the steps. Which you did not. It would have been a more productive and informative video if you could have shown and done the steps you spoke of in the video. Thank you for the effort and the attempt.
