I`ve had mine for two weeks, same colour. An excellent all-round bike, previously had the Adventure sports crf1100. Much happier with this bike, lighter and what an engine!

@@adv2go I had the CRF1000L and went to the VFR800F from that, but I think this would be a nice sweetspot that I'd also like to try. Nicer alternative to the NC750X isn't it?

@@adv2go simply put both bikes are great I prefer the Transalp, lighter easyer to handle and screen and controls easyer on the Transalp. I can live without cruise control... And controls on Africa twin handlebars, And there isn't much difference in power..
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama Год назад
@@philipwall8248 I can absolutely imagine that. I've got a slightly dodgy left knee which is why the DCT appealed, not for everyone I know (my AT was DCT and I loved that aspect of it). Having ridden the NC750x straight after the NT1100 and I found the NC750 much nicer...but it didn't have the cruise, and it doesn't seem like there's an after market option (even for the latest version). I do think this Translap really hits a sweet spot for those of us who like it a bit more upright! Test riding isn't exactly a hardship with bikes like these, is it! KNOX did a review with Mossy and I seem to remember him saying he dramatically improving the NC750x with a upgraded rear shock and cartridge kit.

Cheers Scott, I do think Honda has missed the mark a bit though. They’ve marketed and designed this bike for the Sport Touring market - which is fair enough, but there’s a big chunk of people who were waiting for a lighter Africa Twin to come along. They’ve given the Transalp tubed tyres, a nod to offroad, yet they’ve not given it a bash plate and located lots of important ‘mechanical bits’ right in the line of fire if you were to venture off onto the rocky-unstable stuff 🤢 For me it’s just a touring Hornet really. Great fun bike though 👍

My GSA has gone, I am riding a Husky 701 Enduro off road, and recently got a KTM 990 SMR which I am going to keep. But am in the market for a mid range ADV bike with on and off road capability, have test ridden a few but still not sure what to get…

Had one out a few weeks ago - loved it - I felt a flat spot between 4K and 5k - emissions strikes again. Seriously considered chopping the AT in for it. However, stepped straight back on the AT and decided against it. The AT better bike as you would expect - my problem is a do loads of miles 24k on this one in 2 years so my trade in price means I’ve really got to want the new bike

The engine and gearbox dont really fit the bike. The engine has very little torque down low, has a flat spot between 4 a 5k rpm, and the gear ratios are absurd. This thing will do 220kph in 5th, cant even take full advantage of the 6th gear.

Not perfect but Adequat. Almost everything can be added including: fully adjustable suspension, cruise control & tubeless just a matter of cash. Howewer the elephant in the room: airfilter is located under the tank, no airtemperature indicator & no DCT. Wonder how to get to the the sparkplugs.

I was a little harsh on this bike in another review. Stating, load it up with all the gizmo's they want, they might as well buy an AT. True, but some of us don't want that stuff. My bike is a 05 Tiger 955i, I recently toured for a week with a mate on an AT DCT. A great bike, however I was not left wanting. My Tiger is lighter, lower seat, more powerful, faster, longer range, the only complex electronics is fuel injection. Riding modes are user defined ( I learned throttle modulation as a trials boy in the 70's) all day comfort and funky orange paint. All these ADV bikes are too heavy, adding more is bad news. I say to any Transalp buyer, fit handguards, not just for offroad, they keep the wind chill off your hands. Add heated grips if you must.

At almost 4000km on mine already. Previous bike Was a 22 cb500x. And the xl750 is a way better bike. It fits me perfect at 186cm. The cb had a worse geometry for my height. And the cb500x is horrible viby. The transalp i can ride all day. My shoulders. Back and butt is normal after 4-5+ hours. I was suffering on the cb. Suspension valving is very good, active and smallbump sensitive. Very comfortable. And it is som easy to ride on fast roads and slow city. Perfect for the roads here in the West Coast of Norway.

I thought about buying the Transalp 750 moving up from my 2022 CB500X, but the only improvement are wheel size, the front suspension preload adjustable, larger LCD screen, limited traction control, and more power with 270 degree crank making a bit more smooth. However, it's seat is 1/2 inch higher, resulting in higher center of gravity, weighs 20 lbs more, frame weight is 10 percent less than CB500X, has the same stupid raked seat thus moving the load up higher affecting stability and making it difficult to mount with luggage on it, 60 miles shorter range, and tubes in the tires eliminating plug and go, and lacks cruise control.

Looking forward to the Japanese to "release the hounds" across the pond! Why we have to wait 9 months ~ 12 months for Honda bring it here to the States? Great review. Cheers

i have a 2021 kawasaki 650 versys and it cost us £9400 new and that was the mid range version which come with panairs but i asked for a top box fitted to it as well (i am curious how much more expensive it is for the Honda to get the panairs and top box with it?), the bike has adjustable Showa front forks and preload adjustment on the rear for going 2 up. it has a quoted 65hp and 40 odd torque (if i remember right). i did notice when taking the bike for its service few weeks back that the current year versys has digital dash now rathen than part digital, part analogue. its very similar to the Honda in the video, at motorway speeds (it could do with the sprokets changed to gear it better to sit at 70mph and get better fuel consumption) i know i will get 180miles max out of a tank so usually stop around the 160mile mark for fuel. the seat was fine for first 5000 miles but could do with a jel implant for more comfort. 2 up usually you need to drop some gears to make an overtake but it can do it. the screen can adjust, i am 6ft, have the screen on max height and its comfortable for me. i actually think the kawasaki (if the new model has the same features as mine and similar price) is just a bit better as it looks like the screen on the honda doesnt adjust and possibly cheaper, depends if you want the extra HP but that is just a view from watching the video and comparing to what i got. oh and as someone tried to steal my bike, the handle bars twisted before the steering lock snapped because of the design, which is good bad news, as they couldnt ride off with it but it cost me just under my excess to get the handlebars fixed (they replaced the handlebar to be on safe side as couldnt work out if still ture to shape but everything else was straight and true). i do agree that mid range adventure touring bikes should have 20ltr fuel tanks and comfy seats, its what the bike is meant to do, eat miles and be cheaper on insurance than a 1000cc+ engine. cool video though.

Nice review as always. How would you feel about this as a first bike for a mature gentleman just getting into biking? Asking for a friend obviously! Any thoughts welcome.

I think it would be a great first bike actually, docile enough not to be like a bucking bronco for a newbie, yet powerful and capable enough to grow with your developing skills and keep you engaged with a smile on your face 👍

I'm very familiar with those roads down there in east Kent and Sussex. That was a very quite day around Camber. Did you have a pop into the 1066 cafe? There a chap there apparently out the back with a motorcycle riding gear shop. One thing tho, get off the A21 as quick as you can it's a dangerous road.

Good review Bruce. Having owned the 1st & 2nd gen transalps, I found them both to be great all-rounder bikes. But is 10 grand a budget bike? Given that there are so many parts integrated from other models, I would like to see more spec as standard for your dosh.

All bikes, regardless of price, incorporate parts from other models, and/or generic parts. This has a brand new engine and chassis - -more than most.
@jammyone100
@jammyone100 Год назад
@anxiousappliance yes correct, so given the hornet is £3k cheaper, my point is I'd like to have seen more kit on the transalp as standard. Even a centre stand is extra!

Great looking bike, and even though I don't need it, I kind of want it. Started on a dual sport as a kid and never shook the love for the style. Currently on a cruiser that suits my overweight ass a lot better... as for helmet wind noise, the problem with medium high windshields is that they kind of give you a compromise that's the worst of all worlds. It doesn't prevent buffeting, it adds to it, but it does rob you of wind flow to keep you cool on hot days too. I'd rather ride a little more naked with a lower shield; if I bought this I'd probably lop a few inches off that shield. On my own bike, I have two shields with quick swap mechanisms - one is cut down right to the bone, so wind hits in the upper chest area, ideal for summer runs. The other is taller than I am and gives an incredible quiet bubble, perfect for cooler weather or long runs. But I digress; it does seem like Honda has created yet another fantastic bike for decent money.

"reviewed" my new 790 adventure over the last week, and think for 10k I have the better buy (I mean I would say that as an owner). I do have cruise control, quickshifter, very smart electronics, and almost certainly much better off road bike. For anyone buying on finance (and most do, probably) the KTM is actually a fair bit cheaper overall too, even after the tech pack. Only plus for the Honda I think is maybe the engine will live longer...maybe.

Thanks for a great review! I have a 2019 V Strom 1000 but I like the looks of the Trans alp. I’m a big guy like you and I do some trips with my missy on the back. She’s not a fatty but not a ballerina either. Will the trans alp be a bike for us or should I keep the V Strom or buy an older GS 1200? Have fun and be safe! Peter from Denmark. 😊

Hi Peter, I’d personally keep the VStrom, or even better still, go for the GS/big Adventure bike, if you’re going to be doing trips with a pillion👍
