@@weedthepeople2795 They rebuilt a lot of the engine for this game (that's why they now call it Creation Engine 2). You all realize Unreal Engine is over 20 years old, too, right? You don't need to completely rebuild game engines every few years, that'd be a huge waste of time/money. Unreal/Unity/etc all just do iterative upgrades/tweaks/changes over time, that's how software versioning works. Don't confuse what I'm saying as defending Bethesda, I agree the game handles scene transitions poorly, but switching to a new engine wouldn't magically fix this problem.

@@weedthepeople2795 The engine is important for the game to be ridiculously moddable. No other engines let you mod their games so easily. Even without the official modding tools yet, the game literally has thousands of mods, some are pretty in-depth.

Bethesda went full on emo head case with the companions. I hate every single one of them. Vasco isn't so bad, but he has a REALLY bad habit of running me over all the time, doesn't get stealth at all, none of the companions do, and... *sighs* yeah, Bethesda may very well have created a game by them that I will truly come to despise. The whiny emo companions are just too much.

@antney7745 I've been spoiled the past couple months honestly. Playing Spider-Man 1, Miles Morales, and now addicted to Cyberpunk 2077. Then Spider-Man 2, hell yea!!

Base game definitely seems like that, think they are right that a 6 or 7 out of 10 feels about right. There is a lot there it just doesn't feel like something that really engages and pulls you along. That said have big hopes that given a little time the modding community will be able to take what's in and make it a game to play. Should that be the responsibility of the player base? Probably not. Am I glad they might be able to though? Most definitely.

The funny thing is though, it is easier to give drilling experts some basic astronaut training and send them on a mission as specialist than it would be to teach professional astronauts how to drill. NASA routinely sends to space mission specialist who are experts in their field. And regarding a mission that has the fate of the world on the line, NASA would want the best drillers up there dealing with all things drilling related.

Well, in defense of Starfield, thoe miners are basically already 90% there. You start the game on a pretty much lifeless rock with no O2 present so. They were basically astronauts holding drills really.

I agree, it feels actually quite small, watching the settlements it seems like all Humanity shrinked down to a few thousands people. However I think that most defects can be addressed by Bethesda o by modders. No more stupid cutscenes/animations everywhere, more variety in the dangeons on the planets (they are all the same!!!) And put a fcking vehicle to navigate on the planets. About all rest, shitty main quest, stupid NPC, bugs, mostly you can't do nothing

Bethesda was aiming for quantity over quality... But when they couldn't deliver on quantity, they settled on minimum quality and forced you to run everywhere for a false sense of quantity.

I saw an interview with Todd Howard where he SPECIFICALLY mentions SkyUI being a must-install... and yet here we are with Starfield... thank Jah for modders - StarUI is pretty dang great.

That's the most exciting part of the game so far for me. I just got to the bit where I get powers and had to do like 10 fetch quests to get that.

@@SpellBinder_883 They're combing that "half a dozen DLC" into one DLC. There's only gonna be the one. Also, DLC are pretty damn expansive in Bethesda games. Typically adding whole new locations and a full blown quest as big as the main story (and infinitely more interesting (cuz let's be honest we play the games for the side quests and ignore the main story). Or adding house ownership and homestead building into a game w/o those mechanics.

I felt the campaign was going somewhere, I was lured in. But the way it ended, feels rushed

My game breaking bug was a character I sunk 24 hours into levelling so I could have all the best perks before join the fleet as a smuggler only to have the key glitch becoming un enterable Only fix would’ve been to wait for an update but I didn’t have that kind of time on my hands

I tried to rename a ship that I had spent over 300,000 credits on in upgrades and then it changed the name to literally nothing, ship name is just blank. And it deleted all the cargo in my ship, which was about 2000 mass of stuff

I have had a few myself. One where my ship either despawned or cloned itself on itself. Causing any attempts to board or fasttravel to not work. Another where first person mode just didn't allow me to move in any direction. I could still look around and fight but I couldn't move. Or one where you show up at a random space encounter of evil faction vs good faction and they both are hostile and attack you and fighting back gave a bounty Finally I got a weird one where the time slow skill just stayed on perminately and gave the following features: 1. Any gun equiped only allowed to shoot once. No reloading. 2. Once in the air always in the air unless you can somehow reach a work bench. 3. Energy bar never recharges.

The sad differene is that their previous games where enjoyable even without the mods.

57 mods is the first week you discover mods. Months later is when you're looking at an 800+ mod list at the very least, thinking maybe you have enough, or maybe just one more, or maybe ten more. You'll play the game again eventually. Just one more look though the recent uploads, just one...

@@liquidbruce9787 No they weren't. Starfield is still the most ready-to-ship game Bethesda has ever released. It doesn't require mods to literally fix it up (mostly), just to enhance it further. Its gameplay also works even if it is kinda bland. The original Skyrim was way less playable on release, and has entire mod packages just to get to fix all the bugs it had.

To be fair - it was not THAT bad. The delay on Starfield was a good thing. Better a 7/10 than how disastrous both Cyberpunk and NMS were at launch (BG 3 is still goty, though)

That's why I will wait and see if Steam has a sale in the next year on the game, and purchase then, I can wait, been waiting for SC about the same time.

SC has way more potential but the devs are batshit insane about level of detail that it delays everything. It would be nice to have a truly open world space game that looks great.

You havent experienced Spaceship Earth until you've rode it while blazed out of your mind.

It's the perfect "I need a break from Florida heat and I don't want to walk to Living Seas" ride.

God I miss 80's Epcot so much. Spaceship earth is like a time capsule. Everything else in the park has changed, arguably for the worse, but spaceship earth remains.

You know, this makes me think of the feeling of deja vu I got when I first arrived at New Atlantis. It reminded me of something but I couldn’t place it. But I think this is it. It reminds me of classic Epcot, very much including spaceship earth. Ten year old me was standing there slack jawed when I left the landing pad, and I just now realized what he was seeing. Not just the Nasapunk look in general but specifically New Atlantis looks like what “the future” was supposed to look like when I was a kid, and I don’t really see that look much anymore.

I don't like companions. Why would I want an AI fighting enemies for me? It's just watching AI fight AI, might as well watch AI FIFA play itself. What would have been groundbreaking would be to have allowed a co op feature on the game, play the whole Starfield story with friends. Instead we just got fast travel simulator with a worse story than any fallout game.

The writing and the acting in ME(1,2,3) is on another level. I mean, sometimes at night, I still worry about whether that guy managed to get his refund 🤣

Why aren't there 10 times as many major locations, double the number of factions, and any sense of epicness in space? Why does this game have the same "this is just one region in a vast fantasy world" energy as the ES games and Fallout?!

@@akumaouja4062 I gotta agree. I actually have more fun playing Starfield's take on No Man's Sky style scanning than I do actual No Man's Sky. Also, given that NMS is more space fantasy than sci-fi, it doesn't really scratch that "space game" itch for me. "Bland, soulless puddle" is a little harsh though. The artstyle, though not my thing definitely has some heart and soul put into it.

In a year, with Creation Kit, this game will be amazing with mods. As every Bethesda game for me, I'll play vanilla and then play something else until updates and quality mods come out, and then spend 100's of hours playing it. Probably until TES 6 or GTA 6, whatever comes first

And that the game has its own strong merits and that even though no one system is amazing, the amount of different functions just due to the size of the game and how seamlessly and flawlessly they work together is incredible. People went in thinking it'd be a AAA No Man's Sky and Star Citizen. When in reality it's Fallout 4 gameplay and New Vegas story. But in space.

I haven't played it, but the discourse I've seen about it suggests that 7/10 is pretty spot-on. It looks like it does some things really well, but you have to balance that against the dated game engine, immersion-breaking loading screens, and limited planet traversal.

@@InJeffable it really needs mods and, more importantly, the creation kot. Skyrim got where it did thanks to mods. That said, this is a fresh ip for Bethesda, so hiccups were to be expected. Arena was not exactly a "perfect" game

@@Pure_Havoc to be fair BG3 really hit it out of the park as an RPG. I am a Bethesda fan, but I am also a fan of Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale 2. And Arcanum, which I will compare BG3 more to. Also, and as XCOM fan, BG3 scratched some several itches I have been missing for a few years now. Its a really great game, and Larian deserves all the acclaim for it. BUT - Starfield is fun, and I will play more of it once more mods turn up

It most certainly does not deserve a 7/10 for the state it's in and the price it goes for. 6/10 sounds more fair to me. As someone who loved previous Bethesda games (even with Todd's lies), this game is a turd. If this game came out like this 6 years ago, sure, but today there is simply no excuse for Bethesda to leave in all the downsides of all previous games while breaking immersion completely. And the way the game is designed with all the fast travel and loading screens, means that even mods probably won't save this one for me. Pity...

I absolutely love Starfield. I don't know my total hours in it but I know it's an unhealthy amount. The combat is amazing, the story is umm... well a story and so far I can't find an end to the side quests. Spent 5 hours making a freighter, it has way too much storage, like 6000, just to remember that a big, slow ship is terrible at combat and had to spend another 5 hours making it usable in fights. I don't even do space missions. I'd rate it 7/10 chunks

Fast travelling settlement to settlement (planet to planet) and everything ship wise in terms of distance travel, landings, taking off, flying anywhere that isn't space, is just a cut scene, it's very disappointing in that record. I had imagined it to be this big world where I can fly my ship over the planet, choose where I land in the place I'm flying to, blast off through the atmosphere into space and all in once sequence hyperdrive to another star system and then fly down through the atmosphere, maybe skimming some valleys with some raider ships in pursuit before landing where I want. It's all just automatic cut scenes, or loading screens depending on how we look at it, disappointment. I went back and played Fallout 4 instead and think it's a way better game for its time.

@@picklerick2861 Big Ships can be cool if you use the auto firing turrets, and lots of them! A couple on the front and several on the back and sides. Some of the powerful ones kill ships before I even get a lock on.

If you seriously think starfield feels smaller than those games, you haven’t played enough of it

The handcrafted landing zones are straight eye candy. As is looking out into space at night (since the planets move real time and there are no skyboxes). Space travel isn't done in a menu, that's just one option of space travel. You can Skyrim it, look in a direction or towards your quest marker and just head there by using your Grav drive. The size of the landing zones is huge and you'll never hit the border if you play the game like it's actually a game and you aren't actively looking for the edge of the world to prove the game has flaws.

Say I start at the Constellation HQ in New Atlantis for a mission, I leave the house, loading screen, I walk through New Atlantis to the transit station loading screen, I walk to my ship, loading screen, I sit down in cockpit and take off, loading screen, I'm in space and in order to go anywhere I have to open the map menu, I choose my destination, loading screen, I'm in space above the new planet, select open planet map, chose a landing spot, loading screen, get up from the pilot chair and walk through the ship to get to the planet surface, loading screen, I'm finally on the surface and able to explore, oh wait there's a cave, another loading screen. And this is me trying to engage with the game like I would with Skyrim or Fallout and not fast travelling everywhere to explore and see what I can find. But it's all loading screens. I might as well just open the map, select the planet and hit land and boom I'm there no travel, nothing to explore or encounter. There's no cohesion to the universe of Starfield.

It is literally skyrim in space. Maps labelled as planets. The loading screens you got when entering doors in skyrim are just flying/landing cutscreens in starfield.

I agree with the game needing more cities or big hub zones. It feels like there are almost no humans around and that 80% of the humans alive are space pirates. The Freestar rangers said they have less than a dozen active members. That is unbelievably low considering they are the second major faction in the universe and they have less than 12 cops.

The whole game is 'safe'. Almost politically correct and boring.

I just realized last night that planet scanning is basically Power Wash Simulator with 16 times the detail.
