The fact that this game has a literal written apology at the beginning of it on how bad it is, and yet *still* cost $60 is mind boggling.

You know, I could actually see this concept being pitched as a point-and-click adventure game.... and eventually ending up as this through suit involvement

The dev studio was so consumed with HOW they should make this game yet they never stopped to ask themselves if they SHOULD make this game.

Would have saved tons of money if they just made it like an interactive visual novel. Highlight those artist they deserve it.

This game brings up a very good question. Who would want to play a whole game as Gollum anyways?

The sincere and genuine pain In epic voice guy as he says "please just let us spoil this for you" conveys how much this was a PSA made at great cost to his people, and all that suffering can NOT be for nothing. This should have have counted as public service credit hours.

I think this game should get an award for Most Immersive Game Ever because it really makes you feel frustrated and depressed while playing it.

This is a game you pick up in the bargain bin, get absolutely drunk and have a real good laugh 😅

We really need to stop letting developers and the suits above them get away with this constantly. This is not a healthy practice.

I think Smeagol's corruption from Hobbit to Gollum would've been a MUCH better game. Showcasing some depth and that he isn't simply an annoying side character. To me his origin story has always been overlooked and I don't know why. I mean it's very relatable since most people know an addict and how catastrophic that can be to a small community. Why they chose to make it simply a goofy Gollum game is beyond me. The deterioration of his psyche and the increasing obsession would've been so cool to experience first-hand. And there would've been a million cool ways to play around with the game mechanics showcasing how the presence of (or the lack thereof) the ring feels like. God I hope they make a quality Gollum game some day. ...Also Gollum falls in love? Really? Are we okay?

I'd actually be interested in a JarJar election sim game, but not at AAA prices.

I remember a scene in the movie "hot tub time machine," where a character walks in on their nephew playing a game about serving a really boring "realistic," prison sentence of being bored all day. This game reminds me of that.

The saddest part for me is that Deadalic prior to being sold (and Poki leaving) was always my go-to dev for point and clicks. I actually cried during Night of the Rabbit and Whispered Word. It's kinda heartbreaking that they do weird, poorly done games now while they had the niche they excelled at :/

After playing Styx: Master of Shadows I'm convinced an amazing Gollum stealth game is 100% possible. It's definitely not this game, that's for sure.

See, I could see this game working if you did two things; 1, lean heavy into the stealth because Gollum is a withered little tadpole of a dude who couldn't even take a couple of hobbits in a straight fight and 2, have some sort of mechanic where the more violent of an approach you take the worse the environment gets...not because it actually is but because your sanity is slipping more and more and that's just how you're perceiving things. Really go for the idea that your protagonist is just broken mentally and that's going to affect things

I would actually love to play a game exploring the duality of Smeagol and Gollum, maybe in a style more akin to Senuas Saga, or as a horror game being Smeagol trapped inside Gollum and his survivor complex 🤔

The sad thing is, this could have been a good point-and-click adventure game. The graphics clearly would have been better in stylized 2D/2.5D than immersive 3D. The plot is decent, if bogged down by the gameplay. The choices with Gollum/Smeagol are innovative and almost clever. Every part of the game is good except the whole stealth/platforming aspects that are boring, repetitive, and have glitchy physics, and the parts that serve that. Unfortunately, some suits probably decided that 2D point-and-click wouldn't make as much money as 3D action platformer... and VERY unfortunately, even with how bad the game ultimately is, with the publicity it generated by being bad it MOST DEFINITELY DID make more money than it would have. The suits will notice, and this kind of bullshit WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN with studios being destroyed by greedy executives to milk them of their last dollars. Welcome to late-stage capitalism.

This is a concept that should have appeared in the LOTR saga games, when Gollum was captured by Sauron. Imagine attacking, biting, and tackling multiple orcs all at once, that could have been awesome with the right mechanics. Maybe even have some new side characters that secretly had an influence on Bilbo/Frodo's journey. But nope, we got none of that.

Some games can genuinely only be described as "inexcusable". This is one such game.

It's funny that they made this game with the story between the Hobbit and LOTR where Gollum is best known to be tortured in Mordor. When instead they had hundreds of years of unexplored lore between Smeagol finding the ring and Bilbo stumbling upon, could have told literally all the stories they wanted.

it could've been fun. if it was made into something like styx: master of shadows but no. we got gollum master of tree shades. they could've put some memories sequences where he still has the ring and u get to play with that. play the encounter with bilbo except this time you're gollum, play the whole Mirkwood and Aragorn debacle but make it fun, like ''don't let the ranger catch you'' and there is a whole sequence of the game where you are being chased by aragorn, the elves of Mirkwood, gandalf. while also having to hunt for your food, find your shelter, etc. but whatever. it is what it is now :/
