As someone who loves rock i love the punk rock vibes in some of GDs songs . He realy portrais pain , loneliness and being lost so well in this song and MV . They play this song at sport events and all sort of other events in Korea and all audience go crazy and sings along . He is such a complex artist . Officialy GD is listed as a rapper and Wu Tang Clan was the first major influence on him but this is his Vivienne Westwood and Sex Pistols influence . He has a quote from Sid Vicious tattoed on his body I think
This song is almost an anthem in sk they play in stadiums, clubs... The lyrics he writes. You need to see the live is another level. all discography of G-DRAGON is f***ng amazing.
This sounds like upbeat song but it has sad lyrics. G-dragon is a known as one of the best lyricist in korea, he was praised by different lyricists in korea.
I wouldnt call this 'kpop' per se, as it has a big nod to punk rock tone. GD wears a sex pistols t-shirt in the mv, but also all of his styling has a general punk rock feel to it. He wrote it (with Teddy) with the idea that the sound and lyrics would be great for concert audiences to join in with.
Agreed! Plus the lyrics in congrats the style of music, the depth of the lyrics won the song for me - screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs on the alternative beat when you're just tired with the world, simply hits different. I love it!
You are approaching this realm of kpop music 'reaction' wanting. A great piece of art won't resonate to a beholder with a limited perspective, whether by exposure, or experience. Realising its concept and value/s may be a challenge. In the future, do not ever label the breadth of G-Dragon's work as merely old kpop. Granted that your understanding of music is limited (seems to me, not just about kpop), your continued referring to anything older than 2019 (the year you said you began listening, or reacting to kpop) as old precludes how you equate the era's sound with today's purposefully sleeker (not necessarily more superior) sound engineering, marketing, and overall packaging, missing the artistic merits of the work you are reacting to. I suppose time (immersion and research) will help you learn. For example: G-Dragon is the Emperor of (as simplified by the then western point of view) Kpop. He is an exceptional lyricist. He breathes fashion, in private and professional facets. He is a visionary - songwriting, video-making, image-building, etc. Yet nothing is ever contrived (as opposed to the succeeding generations/recent acts you must have been gauging your 'review' standards on). He is an artist, NOT an idol. He is the blueprint of the kpop industry as you now know it, ergo, the latest generation is standing on his body of work's influence and artistic integrity. He is a blue-chip commodity - his name and the perceived value of his public persona, his taste/s, as well as products he has had a hand on have sold bazillions, from beer and beverage, technology, cars, clothing and sneakers (#peaceminusone). With or sans endorsement by him. A tried and tested brand, so to speak. But where do these all emanate from? His presence and charisma. Most of all, his genius. KWON JI-YONG is a cultural treasure of his country. He is an icon. He is legend. South Korean art/music history and culture books will have honoured him with not just a footnote in 100 years. May you find out why. Hopefully, in time.
For any if you who likes rock vibes I recommend you watch GD performance of Obsession and She's gone at his One Of A Kind tour in Seoul 2013 . Dorian Gray chanel has it with eng sub . Is such a raw and intense performance.
GDragon KING OF KPOP Que bueno que poco a poco te acercas a los Reyes del kpop #BIGBANG, en ellos encontrarás todo tipo de genero musical. Pueden llevarte de fiesta a dejarte en depresión con su música:")
it's a timeless song. It's just not the ordinary Kpop songs you are exposed to today. this is why you are not accustom to this song/ vibe. people still jamming to this song everywhere in Korea until today.
Crooked hits me Emo chords every time... It's perfect when you are so mad and feel useless I always play it and jump, screams along GD especially when I have a bad day at work😅.. GD is my man in those moments😅😅😅😅😅.. Btw its not about generation of Kpop cuz this kind of music like in Crooked it wasn't a thing in kpop, i mean that was the EDM autotune era😅 and GD came out with punk music😅.. Crooked is mostly a western thing😅
I understand how you feel. It is hard for me to like the new sound as I am very much accustomed to the old sound. Like, the only song I like from Jimin is Like Crazy because of the synthwave sound or retro wave sound that is getting more adaptation again these days like Taeyang's Nightfall. But the aggressive nature of the new sound is not very appealing to me, nor does it lyrically entices me either. But I do think, with time, we will be able to appreciate and love both era of sounds. Just wanted to let you know that it is normal, coming from a guy who is at my 40s and have listened to a lot of music genres since the 80s.
Absolutely love his music, he is a great PD, composer, lyrics and outstanding performer one of the most unique voices, love his singing and rap. authentic in his own way
Thank you for your reaction! It's ok if this song doesn't hit you, the world would be boring if everyone had the same taste for music! I really like the contrast between upbeat melody and sad lyrics
This song is Like an Anthem on Skorea. Until Now, it always Play in party clubs. Even in Soccer Stadium. And everyone will Sing like G-Dragon is Having a Concert but the Reality is it's Only an Audio.
