FYI (but I could be wrong) that looks just like the Cosori 10 tray dehydrator. And I'm pretty sure you can buy some of those extra trays for it and they should fit. I just bought the 6 tray Cosori a week ago because the footprint of the 10 tray was just too massive for my counter top. Great review!
I almost bought this when it was on sale during black friday but i didn’t pull the trigger on it. Now i’m regretting it and waiting for another sale! I won’t miss it this time.
i do love a good dehydrator....for sure, I have never dehydrated jerky...I smoke it (Bradley cooker/smoker) but i've never just dehyrated....I have used my solar dehydrator for meat (chicken, ground beef and pork believe it or not) on 100 degree days it works well but as you know solar dehydrators really only work in the heat of summer. I like this review and I like the idea for sure. I really like Lem, usually buy their tools and smaller items, such as rolls of the plastic food grade tiny square thingamajigs you were saying the MEAT! doesn't carry....Lem does. not sure about the measurements tho
I would only trust my solar one to do meat on the hottest July/ August days. Even then, the highest I've seen the internal temp was only 150. So a cold smoke would still be a better option if I had no power or something. I'm a big fan of lem (as I have their sausage stuffer and jerky tube) but when I was looking at grinders and dehydrators, alot of their stuff was backordered at the time. So the discounts and the fact lem was backordered had me try out this company and I'm pretty much satisfied across the board. Once I grind a few more pounds of meat, I'll be able to do a review on that one as I don't like doing reviews on anything until I feel as if I've thoroughly tested every regular scenario.
👍 Ah, Thanks for the temp info! I wouldn’t have realized Yeah I’ve seen the higher priced ones, hard pass DOH 🤦♂️ tray dimensions being offset is hella annoying Well that sucks, should be able to buy more trays Holy crap, I’d run it during the day off solar than. Pge out here would love me running that at night!😂 Good list! 👍
Honestly the tray dimensions just struck me as a big "what the heck? Why!?" It's just ridiculous and it really annoys me when I go to put a tray in and I have to rotate it. Especially if my other hand is full with more trays
What? Thats dumb. It's not like you're across an ocean or anything. They're definitely missing out on a big market as alot of Canadians I know love to make things like moose and salmon jerky
Their website says the trays are not stainless steel, they are chrome plated. Chrome plating is toxic and with age can rust/flake off onto the meat you're dehydrating/eating. They should have an option for stainless steel trays.
Not that I'm aware of. I find it funny and telling that these companies all seem to buy from the same manufacturer overseas and add their labels and one slight change to them
Just got the 6 tray. Is it common for dehydrators to only do set temperatures? I have a recipe that says do 160 and mine only seems to do 158 or 167. Also why is the beef jerky recipe I’m looking at saying 160 when it should be at least 165 to be considered safe? Is it like steak where 160 won’t make much of a difference and is still safe? Because steak can be much lower than 165 and still be fine.
Yes its common. Most of them are analog, it wasn't until the last few years that dehydrators started showing digital temps. When I do my jerky, I start it at 167 for 2 hours then lower it down to 158 till its finished out. I also use pink salt on my jerky as an extra step to keep it safe as I like to make a bunch and eat for months after. The idea you're looking for is to remove the moisture that bacteria need to reproduce. By putting it up to 165 for even a minute, you've essentially killed off the bacteria to the point they can't even get started.
Absolutely. The reason most people mention meats is because they require more heat to make safe. A lot of budget dehydrators can do fruits, veggies, and herbs but not jerky. So if you find one that can do jerky well, then you know it can do the others no problem.
