*edit* people commenting about the sponge, I worked it a lot, I edited out about 5 minutes of me “working” it, and it just didn’t work for me. Hey everyone! I didn't thank her in the video in case she wanted to stay annon, but I want to say a huge thank you to Cassandra Bankson for sending me these products! Please check out her amazing channel and super informative skincare and beauty content! - ru-vid.com
The reason why I trust you more is because you explain your reasoning for why you like something or why you don’t and you go very in depth about techniques. It’s very interesting because I feel like I learn from you which is something I can’t say from most influencers.
Totaly agree, for me this is a really good review, you don't have to love every product, just be honest and give your reasons. We all have different skin needs and preferences.
unrelated but rob makes me feel like i’m “normal.” not to sound shady but when i was younger youtubers would always say “i have a massive forehead, a big nose” yk they still say this but ever since ive watched rob i’ve actually somehow grown to appreciate my own beauty. i may have a big nose but eh honestly i’ll do me. rob doesn’t overly contour at all tbh and i’m not bashing contouring but it’s all used to achieve the same beauty standard. thaaaankkkkk youuuuuuuuuu robbbbbbbb it really does mean a lot 💗
The problem is when we separate a body part from the rest of our bodies & hyper focus & obsess on every inch of it; of course, that’s going to make us feel like our lips are too little or our nose is too big, etc. If we step back & look at the entire face or body, then we can see that’s exactly the perfect size & shape of lips, nose, forehead to go with the rest of our face. God doesn’t make defective products. He put the right personality in the correct body with features that go best together & with each person. If something is “wrong” with someone, it’s lack of confidence, joy, etc. I always hate to see someone turn themselves into a cookie cutter person to match the current fab, especially with plastic surgery; they always come out looking like something is missing from them, like part of their light is dimmed.
I just purchased the Rare Beauty Highlighter Powder in "Mesmerize" and I absolutely 💯 LOVE IT! It really does look like a dewy fine finish on your skin. Robert tried on the liquid version of this Highlighter in this video but I always prefer the powder because it's buildable and you have more control during application. I usually caution anyone to be cautious with Creme make up because it can be unforgiving. Thanks for this lovely video Robert! 💅
I know I’m late but that compact is more for touching up throughout the day. I carry it with me everywhere! The powder is subtle but it does mattify the skin.
Your skin looked gorgeous when you applied primer ! It added a healthy glow (not at all oily or greasy). Please let me know how did it work for you when you had it on for like a whole day ! ❤🦋 I 100% believe your reviews ❤
Congratulations on your puppy Robert ❤️6 months later is now a big dog but still I only watched this video now soooo...congrats it's wonderful best thing in the world to have a dog 🐶❤️
The design from the caps is actually super ingenuis. Is made for people that have arthritis o another issue on their hands, so they can place the open palm on the top, there's a small figure there to help with grip
I was hoping you were going to review this brand. It made your skin look amazing! I’m glad you used the products in a way that everyone would use everyday. Not for a completely glam look
I love how the blush looks.... Too pigmented, not pigmented enough. You can't satisfy some people. P.s. I have totally missed you, mainly your voice and gorgeous face.😍😍😍
I love crazier more bright colors for makeup but this brand seems great for more subtle looks. My mom would def be a big fan of this cause she used to be a Clarins lady at Macys and was friends with the Clinique and Estee Later ladies so she would always bring home samples of that makeup and skincare and shed let me play with it. Fond memories of stealing my moms clinique black honey almost lipstick 😂❤
In the immortal words of Akon....Dude I had to smack dat a few dozen times on my hand, until i saw powder puffing up, it feels like. I've been using it for a day or two atop both 'fully made up' (still very light) and bb creme only, when it felt a bit sticky, just applying with some gentle tiny taps. It's done pretty well; my T zone can get quite oily, and I'm loving how it helps keep everything smooth and fresh...and dewy without feeling as sticky as the weather here in Texas.
I love a natural look as well. I bought the foundation on a whim the other day & after this video I want the rest of the skin products lol. Thank you for a detailed & honest review, Robert! ❤️
didn't really pay attention to this makeup launch, but I love liquid blush, so I might try that out after seeing your application technique. Also, that highlighter looks great on you and it's not a highlighter that is too much and kind of demands to be seen.
Robert I love watching your videos!! I really appreciate the fact that I learn something new, you are so knowledgeable and I’m very thankful for your videos
Hey, Robert! Tired or not, you always come through for us & it is much appreciated. I know you’ll always give a fair review& that is important. I agree that sometimes I really don’t want to shine & sparkle to the heavens but just look truly lit from within. This product sounds great & most likely the only one I will buy from this brand. Take care, give your puppies some love and see you on the flip side! (an old saying from the days of 45 rpm records!) 🖤
I kind of wasn't expecting to like these products as much as I do. To be honest I don't like--I LOVE!!! I bought two foundations and two concealers-the finish spray and the primer and a couple lipsticks--the lowest like is for the lipsticks-a little too natural for me for my taste--otherwise since I bought these I am using almost exclusively except for a bit of NARS creamy concealer if needed. I think Selena nailed it! I'm going to get that pink highlight and that concealer brush next-like NOW I MEAN! ty Robert~thank you RARE BEAUTY
I think when people say other creators are using the products wrong, they’re talking about the absolute excess other creators use, they’re so used to full glam and full face which is fair enough if that’s what they like, but when it comes to natural makeup they bash it because they don’t know how to use it. Such as the cream blushes, applying like five dots and getting mad because it’s “too pigmented” it’s like they aren’t aware they’re supposed to use less
My skin is very cool toned and lots of brands are too yellow for me ,even ordering this online by googling swatches i found a match. I have dry/combination skin and glad to find a satin finish foundation in my shade finally.
The video didn’t even start yet but I must mention that I clicked the fastest I have ever in my life; I really hope he has good things to say about the line cause it looks really good according to everyone else and it’s more natural the way Robert prefers. And I also just bought the liner (the most I’ve ever probably spent on a makeup product) so fingers crossed 😬😬
A lot of people said Selena has nothing to do with make up, bc she wears a more natural look and use less product. You don't have to wear a full glam face every day to love make up. I love makeup and wear makeup every day, and people usually can't tell that if I'm wearing it. I knew you would like it, bc you like a more natural finish.. I don't think this products are made with the "beauty guru" style in mind. I would love to buy it, but I'm from Argentina, I need 2 salaries to buy it xD
Nat Etche yassss i'm the same, i use make up everyday but it's really minimal, people only believe me when i make huuuge eyelooks kkk and i'm brazilian and the price hurts kkk imagine the shipping HELP
Same... I'm so curious about those blushes and highlighters, and oh oh the eyeliner!! But we would need a special price policy for it to make sense as non-luxury makeup here in Argentina... 🤷♀️
This is exactly why I'd like to try some of her stuff, because I also love the natural barely there makeup look. It's unfair to say that Selena has nothing to do with makeup, just because her looks are more minimalistic. I like her makeup style a lot!
Honestly this was a gold mine for me. I wear little to nothing of makeup and wanted I wear more eyeshadow but with a more natural look. This was just that. It has minimal tools, products for me to be introduced to so I’m loving it 😅
I loved this review. I feel like a lot people weren’t looking at this brand for what it’s suppose to be. The point is to enhance YOUR beauty. Not full coverage foundation, not blinding highlight. It’s a natural beauty makeup brand.
Lala Gabrielle and natural beauty/lighter coverage is really starting to be the trend to where makeup is going, especially with Covid and having to wear masks everywhere, most don’t want to deal with that full full coverage right now.
Brands don't make you look cakey. Its the way most of the more popular RU-vidrs pile on makeup. Caking or baking is a term that came from drag makeup, but women are doing it too now. This review really takes me back to the years before baking your face in makeup became a trend.
unless i find a celebrity problematic, i dont care if they release products. good makeup is good makeup. i understamd not wanting to make the rich richer, but you said it best. just dont buy it and the brand will go to shit.
It's always so funny to me when people say things like "Selena has nothing to do with makeup"... Like, do ya'll think the people who own Sephora for example are in this business because they have a huge passion for makeup? It's a business. They're in it to make money lol. The same goes for brands like Dior, or Gucci, or Morphe etc.
Imagine what music artist think about youtubers becoming music artists like makeup gurus think they own all makeup and think they can control everything in the community
Has it occurred to you that there’s a difference between mainstream, unaffiliated brands and influencer or celebrity brands? People judge the brand value of most goods... whether it means luxury, quality, dependence, whatever. If a brand, company or product is affiliated or connected to a certain individual then of course that additional factor comes under consideration for many people. For Gucci or Dior it sells because luxury name + sometimes quality. For rare beauty it sells mostly because Selena name + quality as we see more reviews on it. But initially there was nothing to judge besides Selena’s name so ofc there would be speculation about selena + relationship with beauty. Now that we see more positive reviews it isn’t as much of an issue as the brand message of Selena’s more natural aesthetic is more evident. Additionally, people questioning Selena would also usually be just as critical of ALL money-grabby makeup brands just like morphe, Dior, whatever. There are also people who are choose to ONLY support indie, ethical, or passionate brands. YOU don’t have to care and not everyone has to care!! But trying to say other people shouldn’t at all is kinda silly while projecting assumptions that aren’t necessarily true.
The fear was that it was gonna be another half-assed celebrity makeup line in an already oversaturated market. Since she doesn't have a strong relationship with makeup, it was feared it would be generic and without a strong direction and a celebrity name just thrown on top regardless of brand identity (Haus Labs...need I say more). But someone somehere pointed out that Selena actually DOES have a really strong makeup identity, it's just such a pared back and simple one that it was overlooked for being "a look". She's like the Robert Welsh of celebrities: she doesn't do a lot and instead focuses on doing it super well and super seamlessly. Once people saw the line, everyone was like "ya know what, this actually is such a Selena gomez type of makeup look".
If you are looking for other cream blushes, I really like the em cosmetics serum blushes. Easy to work with, buildable and just absolutely stunning in general! That was my first time using cream blushes and now I barely use my powder ones. I do want to try the Rare Beauty ones one of these days because they look so good and it feels like they would last me a long time.
Who cares who made the brand ? Do the products work?? I only trust Robert to tell me the truth. I didn't even bother watching other reviews so I'm happy you did this!
Also would like to mention that the brand sent out PR packages with a few shades to match the recipient. I appreciated they they were aware of wasting product. Small detail but I appreciated that
Agree! Do the products work regardless of the brand name. This applies to the cheapest of drugstore and the most expensive of luxury makeup. Literally every review ever should have this question in mind!
the only reason why this matters to me is because i do not want to spend my money if the person behind there is for example racist or i do in any way support them being harmfull.
@@steffid_ thats a great point. I completely agree with you. I should have been a bit more clear, its more about people judging whether a singer should be launching a make up brand, or you say the products are all amazing because you're a fan of the artist who created the brand. Ethics and morals come first. But we shouldn't judge the products purely on favoritism.
I have it and it was way too light for me. I could barely tell I had highlight on. I think it's different for everyone. I absolutely love the use though.
I really don't get it, she have been in the business which has a ton of demand for make up. Shouldn't celebrities of high calibers like Selena know more about makeups than normal people, after all they have worked for years with professional makeup artists.
But why would anyone care that much? Like...if you’re not interested then don’t buy it lol. I usually balk at celebrity makeup lines but it seems like Selena Gomez really put thought into this line and didn’t just slap her name on to some hot mess cheap makeup. The products seem good quality and thoughtfully curated
I didn’t hear anyone really complain about it at all. Were people just expecting James or Manny to flip out? I thought everyone had an open mind to wait and see.
So glad you made a point of saying it's makeup and ppl need to calm down. Everyone has opinions. Take em or leave em. It's not that deep. Great review as always! Could you use the blush as a wash of color on the eyes?
I've ordered some Rare Beauty stuff to try BECAUSE of that packaging and large sizing. I have major wrist issues and sometimes can't open products if I'm having a bad day. The balls on top make things easier to open so I'm so happy to see makeup becoming more disability friendly!
I agree❣️ Guide Beauty is an amazing company for folks with dexterity/physical issues (autoimmune/Parkinson’s for example...don’t want to omit anyone’s physical limitations here)...just a mention!! Happy Friday!!
Between Wayne Goss designing an eye palette for 40+ year old women, and now this, I am very optimistic about the future of cosmetics and skincare being designed explicitly for older women, and not just being “old-fashioned.”
That brush came out in an ipsy box, maybe Boxycharm, my memory is shit sometimes, last year under a different brand. It's triangular and dense. I have it and I use it for foundation. Works beautifully with tinted moisturizer as well as full coverage foundations, even pancake type makeup and it let's you be as detailed as you like.
" They know nothing about makeup!" Honey the big ceos running your favorite brands dont even WEAR makeup half the time. * re commenting because someone was annoying under my other *
Exactly. Most of those CEOs don't wear makeup at all actually nor are they versed in makeup. They are there to manage the business and have creative advisors and other people that know about makeup working for them.
Most CEOs of these companies are men. Let's not forgett that. So people seem to have absolutly no problem with them and lower down managment who are mostly men too bringing put make-up... but when a woman does it? Let's all clutch our pearls.
@@sisuguillam5109 90 percent are probably men. And they always have been. And there’s no Robert welsh, who actually uses makeup, sitting in those board meetings making decisions. It’s always been a male dominated industry. They have been telling women what to wear since the 1900s. “ How to be a real woman for your husband. How to look your best for when your husband gets home. Just because you cooked dinner doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put the effort into looking your best for him”. God can you imagine someone telling you that shit. It would be a solid fuc$ off from me 😂😂😂
@@scray00 I am old enough to have been damn close to people telling someone that shit - 5 years older and with different parents I would have been told that. There are people who push for women conforming to that again in my country - and plenty of others. 😑 The fight against that never seems to end.
In the war the UK government made posters encouraging women to keep looking good and putting on their lippy as a way of keeping up the country's morale. Lol.
I freaking love you because you actually say what more people need to hear, "don't go in with the view of protecting her" "she doesn't expect everyone to love her products." You're not drama, you're not hate, and that needs to be spread more around youtube.
I don't get the hate for her coming out with this brand, she wanted to make a brand that is easy for people with disabilities and physical illnesses, she has an autoimmune disease so the has arthritis and the ball is designed to specifically make it easier for people like that,it has a great message
Oh! I never knew that. On the videos and the website it didn't mention it, but now that you said it, makes perfect sense. I have lupus, and this may help 😉
@@juliearmymom7807 It was mentioned many times on their site and on their social media accounts. They donated 10,000 masks to healthcare workers before they even dropped products and pledged $100 million for mental health.
I don’t think it’s hate, I’ve seen more people getting defensive when someone doesn’t like a product, then people hating on her for creating a brand. Either way everyone is different and had different opinions
Pink I knew about the 1% of sales being donated but that’s it. I know that was directed towards Julie, but not everyone follows their social media. I’ve only watched this video and one other one and it wasn’t mentioned.. so ❄️ out, pal.
As someone who really dislike that youtube trend of making yourself glow like a christmas tree with an highlighter, I would wear this one. It seems to be just enough shine. Overall, this brand seems to be my kind of makeup so I'll probably try it
Same! I am not into the RU-vid/Instagram influencer type makeup look personally (Hence why I like Robert because he doesn’t fall into this category). It’s way too heavy and fake for real life, so this is my kind of everyday makeup.
@@HC-mr3nt yeah I have a whole bunch of small RU-vid channels I watch cause they do their make-up the same as they do it in real life. I couldn't figure out how all these people could get their make-up to look so flawless with the way they pack it on, not realizing early on that their lights and filters are what made it look so flawless. So I love these people that turn down their lights and show us close up how it looks around their nose and what not
The thing I like the most in his facts is telling how it was before influencers. Just because a celebrity is not an all about makeup celebrity does not mean they do not belong in the beauty industry. Since celebrity was a thing they have been in the beauty industry long before there was even a hint of influencers or social media.
Everything is tailored to the fact that Selena has lupus, which also means she has arthritis in her hands. •The ball on top of the cream products make it easier for her to open. •The applicators have so much product on them because that you don't have to keep trying to dip, which can be hard for people with arthritis. •The brushes are also shaped like a finger! That may you can use a brush instead of putting pressure on your fingers!
I have never felt so seen 😭 I’ve had arthritis since I was 7 and I’m 26 now. I have to use my teeth to open so many of my products because my hands can’t squeeze tight enough. I love her for doing this.
My stepmom designed the packaging and while it might be an unintentional benefit, it was not considered when they were in the process of making it! Love Selena but she chose the packaging because she just liked how it looked :3 which is also totally fine but that’s why you can’t find info on it
Your Friend Mad I was diagnosed with jra at age 8 after two years suffering. I’m now 33 and i still get excited when I met other people who understand my childhood ( although sad about it at the same time )
People are kicking off but let’s be honest, she’s been wearing professional makeup her entire career. She probably has more hands on experience than most 👏🏼
She's been wearing makeup since she was 8 years old. She said so herself in one of the promo vids floating around on YT. She definitely knows her shit. I'm happy to have a celeb come out with such a thoughtful brand and one that promotes natural makeup. Natural makeup is constantly looked down upon and it's absurd.
@@TheSwauzz I think it's fair to say that wearing makeup is much different than knowing enough about it to understand formulation, manufacturing, and marketing. That said, she clearly had a solid vision and she's done a great job with this line. 👍
Is it me or the camera? I think the foundation makes you look flawless. not the thick cakey kind. it looks like your real skin but with better complexion. I didn't expect much, but now I am amazed
Most people will review makeup the way they like to use makeup. The trick is to find the person your technique vibes with and figure out how they like it. For instance I watch Popluxe Nadi for foundation recommendations because if a foundation works for him it generally is good for me. Its not rocket science.
I was just thinking this! I watch other make up youtubers that are always full coverage, but it's not my style I just like to watch mainly their eye look or they are fun. I noticed that I vibe more with Kathleen and Robert even, though I have combination skin, I like how they tend to be more on the natural style
I agree. I always look up on Kathleenlights before buying any foundation online, because we have similar skintone and skin type. I could never go wrong if I follow the shade she uses lol
"I see inside the bottle there's some separation which tends to be the case with natural deodorants" DEODORANT😂😂 Don't you just love when you want to say something and your brain decides it wants to say something completely different without consulting you first lol😂
Idk why but my brain is telling me baby sister: Glossier Middle sister: Rare Beauty Oldest sister: Fenty Beauty Aunt: Bobbi Brown Mom: Estee Lauder Grandma: MAC
@@efolinsky i thought of MAC as the grandma cause they're like the oldest (???) in the makeup industry LOL but omg i never knew EL owns a lot of other brands??
I'm not a Selena Gomez fan - I don't follow celebs BUT I would love if more people would mention that she's making donations for mental health awareness and that her packaging was made with arthritis and physical difficulties in mind so it's easy to open. I absolutely love that! I'm interested in picking up a few things, especially those brushes.
@Misty B I'm really glad that a makeup brAnd is stepping up their game and recognising that Mental health and disorders needs to be addressed. I'm so on board with Rare Beauty because of the money she's donating! I also want the concealer, lip products (all of them, they'd be gorgeous on anyone) and the highlighters & blushes are a YES!!! ❤💋😘💄🙃😉
FINALLY! you're literally the ONLY person i wanted to see a review on this line from. I've never been a fan of Selena so I wasn't sure how much work she puts into her projects, but the only reviews I could find are from people who cake their faces and think the brand is lacking because it's not drag makeup 🙄 not helpful at all! Thanks for recording this.
I watch videos from Robert to see proper detailed product reviews (and how to use them properly) and Jackie Aina to sort of educate myself/ get her opinion from the POV of a black woman- definitely influences my opinion on products.
I like that Western brands have started to turn away from the super heavy, full coverage foundations. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into a Sephora asking for light/medium foundation and there has been hardly anything!
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for (hopefully I’m still good with it as time goes on 😅). I get so tired of these full glam looks being pushed out when I want a more natural look. I just don’t even bother wanting to try anything out (which is partly my fault). So this is refreshing. :)
@@MyNameHere101 it went amazing!!!it was way too hot for my huge wedding dress but we endured it. I fainted after the photoshoot and then threw up when we arrived at the venue right after we had final rehearsal of our first dance but I took it like a champ and after that it was just amazing. Thanks for asking. It turned out like a million times better than expected and everything went right
I KNEW you would like the highlighters! Several influencers said that it wasn't intense enough.... the "need to be seen from space?" I love a natural glow from my highlighter, so I'm thrilled how much you enjoyed it!!
K. Dueck I just feel like most beauty gurus prefer heavy full coverage foundation, intense highlight, harsh dark contour, absurdly long false eyelashes, etc, you get the gist
Nicole Hernandez I totally agree. I have actually stopped watching quite a few influencers because they apply their makeup like you described. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way!👍🙂
This is a very professional review. Thank you for giving an overview of both the pros and the cons and also for keeping an open mind about the products. I have watched so many reviews where influencers are discounting it as just another "celeb" release and not applying the products correctly (yes this is happening- one influencer applied the liner to just his hand not his eyes and we know that hand swatches are not always accurate). This is so weird and so disrespectul to their subscribers to think that we dont notice a personal bias. Thank you for showing the others how a review should be done!
"I feel lost without you" is the most beautiful thing an artist can tell to his followers.. Likewise, Robert! But we are like your close friends who would never forget you or love you any less regardless of a long break 🖤
The concealer applicator is shaped like that to make it easier to get into all the crevices of the face. A lot of thought has gone into the design of the packaging and I love that the company is a huge supporter of mental illness. I wouldn't call myself a fan of Selena but I do have so much respect for her.
Love the mindset that there's enough space for releases. Everyone forgets that the past existed and celebs released collabs all the time. Makeup isn't just for you tubers.
I hear that Selena made the packaging easier for those of us with certain dexterity issues. She has Lupus and made the products easier to handle for those of us with joint pain. I love that. GO SELENA!! Also, Robert, you look wonderful! Such a beautiful person and soul.
not true. "@Loashe 3 years ago Robert Welsh, a makeup artist here on youtube, reached out and got a response from the rare beauty team that the packaging was not intended for those with disabilities/arthritis. The interesting rounded designs on their products are more for aesthetic purposes than health related ones. It’s likely someone commented on it and spread quickly as fact."
okay i dont even U S E makeup but when i heard Selena Gomez was making a brand i was curious if it was shit. thanks for being real man i wouldnt trust another beauty 'guru' to tell the trush straight forward
Her makeup line genuinely looks like it’s good quality, like some thought was put into it and it wasn’t just randomly put together in a lab to make a quick buck.
A tip for new puppy owners... pour hot water in a large bottle (preferably a plastic one) and wrap a towel around it. Put it in near the puppy, specially at night. They can rest on it like it's their mom. It can comfort them. I think it feels like a big dog
I love this advice. Also my puppy’s favorite toy was a BPA free plastic water bottle. Just make sure you remove the cap, ring, and labels. He just crunched on it for hours.
I saw this comment and was like...what the heck? Why is she talking about puppies on a makeup video...just goes to show how bad my memory is! Lol That is good advice. Hope it works for Robert.
