Gotdamn Ryan is such a good interviewer. Leans in at the right comedic moments, asks the right questions, and you can CLEARLY see how empathetic he is to all these situations. Thank you for this beautiful podcast.
Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death. While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the war, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes. Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way. It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......
I ran into Joel the same week I watched this Honeydew. He could not have been nicer! I didn’t want to be rude since he was eating dinner. He chatted with my group for half an hour and he was awesome! Thanks Joel for your kindness and thanks Ryan for producing awesome content.
That motorcycle talk hit home. My ex's brother and his wife were on a motorcycle together and were hit by another driver. Both wearing helmets, both died. They left four young kids with no parents. This was over 3 years ago and I still get choked up hearing talk like this. Watch out for motorcycles and be safe out there, y'all.
Sorry for your loss. My father in law just got hit by someone who fell asleep at the wheel. Nearly died, but after the airlift and surgery he is still with us. I can't imagine your pain, but they are dangerous. I try to explain to my kid, you can be the best rider ever, its other people that can kill you.
I would love to ride, but the problem is it doesn't matter how well YOU drive. You are relying on everyone else on the road to be good drivers as well. & more than half of drivers are texting, don't use turn signals, or will literally cut you off on purpose.
@@mr.resistance4015 Exactly this. They were going down a country road, intersection with two way stop, and a work van pulled out in front of them. They didn't have time to brake and hit the passenger side of the van. From what I heard from the family the passenger in the van is still in therapy three times a week. Not sure how accurate that is but this poor guy wasn't even driving and he's probably going to be messed up for life.

I had heard about Joel McHale being dyslexic, but it just felt like it went a little more in depth, added a little humor to an otherwise painful issue that's unimaginably hard to have to deal with in your childhood. It feels like two guys having a beer on the back porch joking around about life, good and the bad, and I'm all about this.
Ryan has become such a fun part of my week. I love listening to his high pitch squeal laugh, like he's a giddy little school girl. This man deserves much more attention! He is genuine and lovable and has made it threw some rough things to become a wise veteran and this podcast may not make me laugh out loud as much as 2 bears or Hey Babe, but it might be more entertaining than any other podcast and puts a smile on my face, I'm always grinning with the honeydew. Cheers Ryan
This was one of the best interviews I’ve seen in a while, it was clear that Joe was very uncomfortable talking about himself but Ryan always has this way of making people feel like they’re just chilling in the living room
This is my very exact story, Joel! I have a "mathematics disorder" or previously known as dyscalculia. It was not caught until I was an adult. I suck at math, but did okay in geometry. I also am working on my Masters degree. But I struggle more with numbers than letters. Good episode and guest, Ryan!
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I like Joel McHale after watching this interview. Never knew much about the guy and didn't dislike him, but just was surprised at how much I liked him. Great podcast Sickler. Keep up the good work!
No heat needed honestly, never needed it, just change out the salt and alcohol a few times if it's really bad and let it sit and soak in the first bag for an hour before you start the shaking. The hot water at the end just makes sure there's no alcohol taste left.

You have parosmia. Look into it. My wife got it after her COVID (December 2020). Can now barely start to smell bath and body works., My cologne, and a couple different things. But you are spot on. We had to keep dryer sheets in the garage because they smelled like garbage to her. Shit is weird.
if you like these , checkout the crab feast from the beginning i’ve cried from laughing so hard at work multiple times 🤣 it’s ryan and jay larson’s previous pod before honeydew started 💙
one of my five favorite podcasts. Also, I hope Ryan hasn't heard this a million times and he's not like shut up asshole but he should try the burnt orange trick to get his taste back. I had a friend who got his taste back after.
Ok so this was eerie for me. I inherited dyslexia from my Dad, my Mom was a proof reader and I was technically a twin in the womb until the other one passed. So when he started talking about twins I was like toooo many coincidences!!!!!
Loved Norm Macdonald and loved the tribute! Also, The Soup...the OG and Original "Ridiculousless/Tosh.O" where Daniel blames Rob for stealing his idea; but in reality...Daniels entire show was stolen from The Soup! Wish they'd bring that back! And again, amazing tribute to Norm! 👍
Will Joel Mchale come back in no way home as the bank guy, he is the one of the first community member to appear in spiderman movies, it would be fun to see him come back in a small role, or all the community members, or show college in the scene. Cool Norm Mcdonald story i miss him alot, really helped me during the pandemic, watching his videos, also check out the conan podcast, where he talks about him, i only found him when pandemic started, of course i have seen him in movies but didnt know who he was like a SNL host, im watching all of SNL during boredem like from the 70s till now, so thats when i found him and he was so good as SNL anchor, that the guy after him, was so bad, i was like are you kidding they fired him over an OJ joke, WTF?
Fucking slapped that like button before the video even buffered. Best podcast out there and when I see a guest I'm already familiar with and love, I turn into a telescope and hike my jeans up extra high. Thanks for always killin it ryan!
Love these 2 . SIckler is so damn funny, and i've been a fan of McHale since talk soup. also, everyone should know about the Dyslexia font. I hear its a huge help.
So my wife wanted to take our 2 year old to the park. No problem, I wanna watch the rest of HoneyDew, the first part about Norm was hilarious......I'll listen to the monitor for our napping 2 month old, no biggie...WTF guys! BTW, good podcast.
I am going through the same symptoms I had covid last November and lost my smell and taste for over 10 months but now it’s starting to come back but everything smells like a chemical and things taste funny!! I hope it doesn’t last forever but I’m definitely one of those who lost his taste and smell for over 10months and now it’s starting to do funny things so I hope it comes back!!!
Not sure if its covid related but the last few days water smells to me like a penetrating lubricant called PB Blaster. Everyone that's also smelled the same water says I'm crazy.
@@probablynotwearingpants6228 interesting, the weirdest thing for me is I can smell tap water now it smells all chemically but bottled water has no smell to me so there’s definitely something weird going on with my smell since last November, hopefully it’s coming back cause I’m at least smelling things now but nothing smells like it should.
@@breandanangley3828yeah it's called parosmia. Look it up and I know two friends that had it and still haven't gotten it back yet and it's been over a year, then my own father who got it and it came back after 6 months. Some say everything taste very metallic to them, & others who said everything smells/taste like legit garbage/rotten eggs/& other nasty things. Different for everyone. But yeah, look up Parosmia. Sounds exactly like what you're experiencing! Hope you get everything back soon buddy. Take care, & best wishes!
All in love dude, my grandpa started to not taste things too. Almost to a T the way you described taste is how he described it. He had a brain tumor and then eventually he passed away. Good riddance lol. But in your case you might want to check that out because once a brain tumor is formed it turns into a real battle man. You really want to get that fixed if that is your case.
