After asking my viewers for their opinions on what to do with this collected bushy honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida) a week ago, the results are in, and in this video I style it, along with a second fuschia tree.
I have 4 Fuchsia bonsai My oldest 1 is over 20 years old with a trunk of about 20cm wide. It's the new Zealand Fuchsia when I dug it up it was 12ft high. Fuchsia grow very easy from cutting. Wish I could share a photo with you mate . Cheers from down under
I can't exactly recall the roots, but I think they just went down. I'll have a go at creating some root flare next spring while trying to get it in a shallower pot.
Tony the ones you cut off stick them in water they will root very easily, just reduce the amount of leaves on them but leave some, you will be surprised how quickly they will root. I have a mother tree in the border which I take cuttings from. Good luck mate with your efforts.
Very interesting Joe. I just pulled off some of the lower leaves and stuck them in some compost in a fairly deep pot. next time, I'll definitely follow your advice and put them in water. I've never tried that, but I've heard it works for willow.
I bought my first bonsai in 2005 when I was doing a diploma in horticulture it was a fusia but it didn’t last, got into bonsai earlier this year and have tried training one that was £1 from Morrisons I’ve got it in a small pot indoors and already cut it back twice in a few months so holding out some more hope for this one.
Hi Sam. I have a few plants from Morrisons myself. Thye are a great way to get into bonsai, and I'm sure you'll soon have a garden full of little trees!
Fuchsia can make very beautiful bonsai. I also really like Ian’s channel. Is this cultivar able to withstand your winters or must you treat it like a tropical and bring it indoors for the winter? Thanks, keep growing
I agree Matt. I am not a huge flower lover, but there is something about fuschias that I really like. Thanks for the information, Kevin. Much appreciated, and I'll definitely be on the lookout for a tom thumb!
@@TonysBonsai they are readily available. It it was earlier in the season I would have sent you a cutting. I'm told panicularter lottie fuchsia makes incredible bonsai because of the tiny leaves and flowers. I've got one that has flowered throughout the winter.
