My husband was a IBEW electrician but since his passing, as a widow things fall on me. My sons and I are using this video to replace the old thermostat. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
i'm a retired 30 yr union construction worker and it's nice to see a fellow pro make a mistake and own up to it, but more importantly is he double checks his work like a pro and discovers it. mother nature gets us all in the end with glasses. chuck i don't know you personally but i know the type of guy you are and i would have you as my plumber if i lived in the area.
Modern heating systems can be amazingly fussy. Three years ago I replaced our old boiler and water heater with a combi boiler. As part of the job I added two zones to the second floor. It was an easy job of simply adding two new actuators to the existing manifold. To avoid pulling in new wire for two new thermostats I went with Honeywell wireless thermostats an equipment interface module and a redlink wireless control module. I used the wiring diagram supplied by Honeywell and it worked fine to start the boiler and open the zone valves, but nothing would turn off. It took me hours of searching the Honsywell site before I finally found the very obscure link to the correct wiring diagram. It worked after I rewired it, but the correct wiring was 100% non-intuitive. I also sympathize with your feelings about super fine print. I carry an extremely bright LED flash light just for reading tiny print that I could have read in a dark room 20 years ago but can't read now unless I am in bright sun or use my super bright light.
those EIM`s are amazing arent they? I had to change out a few bad actuators at one job. They wanted 7 brand new thermostats top of the line. So I gave them 7 hw prestige stats with the interface module. So clean
@@ChuckBarron the equipment interface module is hard wired to the boiler, the zone circulating pumps, the wireless module, and the zone actuators. The only wireless part is the new thermostats for the two new zones.
I have a dual Honeywell ProSeries Thermostat it has the off mode on it plus the time on it. Really nice on its digital lights up when you push a little button
We have a T87N in the hallway of our apartment complex. I need to check the position of those dip-switches because ours shuts off the heat 4 degrees F below what it's set to. IE: Set to 68, and it keeps the temperature at 64. 70, and it heats to 66. Could you please instruct us as to how to REMOVE a T87 from its base mount on the wall? I've tried prying this sucker off everyway possible, and since it's where we rent, I don't want to break our lease, along with the thermostat! lol
don't you have to turn off the switch or something before touching those red and white wires?? Or is the current running through them just not enough to shock you?
The only disadvantage to the new style t87 is that those have small batteries in them that can not be changed. I will use them as long as the situation is right. In a seasonal house they suck. For good digital lux pro has a decent one. And Honeywell 5000 or 6000 series work nicely tho they need a constant power wire.
My heater and thermostat were working but then someone switched the buttons on top and now the thermostat is not working. Does it have to be reset? How do you do that
I have the same thermostat but I have a problem. When I put the thermostat on 75 degrees and up the boiler turn on and work all day night and when I put 74 degrees or more down the boiler never turn on. Where is the problem?
My go to is the honeywell T4 pro. Super easy to use and has great programmable settings. The honeywell prestige is another great one but its a bit on the pricey side.
I had a humidifier , new multi function thermostat installed 5 years ago. The thermostat battery case kept popping open. It would then default to some wild configuration. I'd get home and no heat. Lock battery case back up and fart around for 10 min's trying to get heat. Next day same thing. Went and bought a thermostat with, heat, cool, off and auto. Up for higher temp, down for lower temp. The old K.I.S.S principle. Keep it simple stupid, lol.
Which brand and model did you get that was simple I've got an older friend that can't see very well and doesn't comprehend very well he needs something real simple in my own house I have one of those old murky ones that you do have to switch it at the bottom from heat to cool or maybe off but heater cool and then you just worked at the the temperature lever at the top Pure simplicity, I'd like to find one of those for my elderly friend if anybody knows who makes those I have to check mine to see if there's a model number or brand name on it, mine is an old Trane weathertron, Mercury thermostat and it runs my heat pump fine except my wife and I have the constant thermostat battle but the plastic aclear vent diverters over the ceiling vents (I bought some extra magnets from Lowe's home improvements to help secure the vents to the ceiling vents over my recliner) to help me survive her tendency to ice it down like it's the North Pole, I wonder if you can still pick those up simple Trane weathertron Mercury thermostats?
i had my experience with that honeywell round thermostat it did not work well with an old gas floor furnace the temperature was way inaccurate they were periods were the house too cold and too hot but 1 year later i replaced it with a lux 10-1141 mechanical thermostat and it works fine now
Do they make a luxe mechanical for heat pump in other words I guess heat and cooling I have an older friend that hardly barely comprehends the Honeywell digital thermostat he has plus he can't see it he can't make out any the words I bought him on this harbor freight things you wear on your head that what you do close work but I think you'd be much better off with one of these simple round mechanical Mercury thermostats if anybody knows if this is the best one to use for a heat pump heating and cooling?
I have no idea how to use a new programmable thermostat want to get rid of it. The heat goes all the time wont shut off when all I want is hot water. Ive had to use the main on off switch to only get hot water for evening showers.
I took old honeywell apart and the two wires were black and green.there were other wires not being used.some were white, red etc. should I use the black and green that were used on old Honeywell.the new one is a ct87k.heat only.thanks.also great vid!
CB1! You are the man love your videos! There’s not many old-school honest plumbers like you left!! I work for a general contractor building custom homes and commercial projects in Westchester county New York. It’s a family business so I understand your pain!! Just curious how many employees and trucks do you have. Keep the videos coming!!!!
there's a big fallacy to the "energy saving spiel" older building's most always have far longer recovery cycle times due to leakage and loss that caused everything interior to be hot or cold and radiating for many hours as it tries to recover....
Yep. Plumbing, electrical & HVAC will always have job openings. I've been doing HVAC controls for ten years at military bases, schools, ect. Can't beat those Davis Bacon & prevailing wage jobsites!
Bought this thermostat to make a temperature controlled outlet for my lg 5000 btu window ac because the bimetal sensor on it always gets my run too cold or too hot
@@ChuckBarron I found a digital thermostat that actually works It none programmable and is also a lux like the one you replaced it's the lux pro psd022w I returned the honeywell and will make a video on how to make that setup I did earlier and just saying the psd022w can be bought at Ebay by hvac surplus as the psd011w which is the heat version but is still the cooling version for $14 which is why I might buy it instead
Alot of heat, cold night last night..mine hits ninety everytime, big oollldd, two story home, nat.gas radiators, is it better to leave the heat up, furnace running overnight, or shut her down like we do? Were also at 60, or 90 farenheit, ....
From this plumber it does not matter. I may have a different opinion out there on the technical side of this but It has always worked for me.. Its nothing but a fancy switch.
I took my battery backup thermostat to an electrician today and he set it to 55 for me. But the heat is still coming so guess it isn't a thermostat problem. I have a hot water boiler it also makes the hot water. He said something about zones or the furnace sorry I didn't understand.
you have a summer winter hook up. boiler has coil inside for domestic water. so boiler will run all year long. kind of like a tankless water heater but runs through your boiler. i hope this helped.
Jesus saved my life and soul. Freed me from alcoholism and suicide. Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Confess Jesus as Lord and Savior you’ll be eternally saved.

old looking, but not reliable anymore as they are also electronic junk and yes they have a battery. /me look sand points at the ancient mercury bulb honeywell on the wall........ it works and has for over 35 years since install =p infact, I'd break someones neck over it if they broke it ;)
