HONG KONG DIM SUM GUIDE Pt 1: Where to Go, What to Eat, Tips and Etiquette 

I remember as a kid back in the days, my dad and uncle took me to a dim sum place where people bring their pet birds in cages, they would hang the cages up top while enjoying their meal. Others will have conversations about their birds, etc., I don't think they have these places anymore in HK but it was quite an experience.

All this food looked so amazing! I would probably eat my weight in dim sum if I went to the Lin Heung Tea House. That food at YUM CHA really looked to pretty to eat haha. Loved the bit about the tea pot and how to get a refill. Really excited for part 2!

When I went to Hong Kong 4 years ago I visited both Lin Heung and Yum Cha. I did not like Yum Cha at all, sure some of the dim sum were lovely to look at but they didn’t taste as good and it was very expensive among other things that totally irritated me, hopefully they are better now. Lin Heung was an awesome place, both yummy and affordable. Visiting Lin Heung reminded me of going to dim sum as a child in Honolulu. I remember washing my dishes in tea when going to eat dim sum as a child. When I went to Lin Heung I was shocked at how throughly a couple who shared my table washed their dishes with the tea. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Love the dim sums. The yellow pork dumpings and the white ones with the prawns inside are the best!

THANKS again, a well researched program, lucky we can still witness and taste the original food in that old style restaurant remaining in Hong Kong. I believe Lin Heung is the final remaining traditional restaurant in Hong Kong still surviving where even inside China you will not locate anymore of this type. In Australia, Canada USA, now most of the yumcha restaurants used the standard prepacked frozen dim sum to reheat and serve customers, it's cheating in a sense but it's the way of life and progression. Similar to digital Vs Analog. Thanks Sam for keeping a good record of how Life was with yumcha in the Chinese culture. Eagerly awaiting your part 2 of yumcha business which is so interesting indeed.

Looking forward to part 2! Eating dim sum was a highlight of my trip to Hong Kong (as far as food goes) but I didn't even know about yum cha unfortunately.

Love a good Yum Cha and Cantonese feed here in Perth, Western Australia, always such a characteristic experience, in the sense that there just seems to be so much happening in and out of the kitchen at all times and above all the food is always just so on point, and so so so tasty! And with lots of apparent hard work put into making it! Me and my mrs can't wait for covid to eventually just do one and for things to return back to normal, so we can just be free go and go experience the real deal! Hong Kong looks to be an absolute foodies paradise! I reckon I'd get real fat and happy real quick living over there 😂

I’m of Chinese descent, but was born and raised in Brazil where growing up never had dim sum as there wasn’t any to go to. So when I finally tried dim sum in Hong Kong on my first trip to visit my grandma and aunties, we were sitting with another family on the same table. In fact, I thought at first the other people sitting with us were my grandma’s friends. Then realized they were strangers and just sharing the table with us. That concept was so strange to me. Lol

Will you do an episode about traditional Chinese weddings? Eg. Tea ceremony, red pockets Will you do some videos about Chinese New Year or mid autumn festival? The zong tzee sticky rice in banana leaves?

Lin Heung Tea House usually busy and crowded. He went there around 04:00 pm so is happy hours at that time.

Our restaurant in Cincinnati, Ohio in the USA serves dim sum with carts on weekends. We try to emulate the restaurants in southern China as much as possible and our customers appreciate our effort. I recommend trying soy sauce and spicy oil sauce if needed. Come visit us if you are in town. - Uncle Yip's

Hello, what is the average price per dim sum dish in hk dollar?

The Lin Heung Tea House looks so empty there. I've only ever seen it absolutely packed and chaotic. Is this during non peak times, or because of covid?

Just curious, how much did that fancy Yum Cha meal cost for.. say the 2 of you?? I'm guessing probably around HKD 400+?? How about showing us some nice & cheap place for our viewers? by cheap, I don't mean like ghetto/rough stuff... like decent quality, decent sanitary conditions and good value!! I'm not very familiar with HK but I know certain areas (lower rent/cost) got some very good deals.... Cheers! ^^

Ling Hong has closed down one of the oldest restaurant in Hong Kong central I didn’t like cause is not very clean there but they do have lots of traditional dim sum which many new restaurants don’t have

Why everyone points to Lin Heung when yum cha is to be introduced foreigners??? It's old. It's historical almost heritage even. Yes. But its dim sum is really mediocre. And the seating and service sucks. Lin Heung however serves wicked dinner food. I would recommend Lin Heung for dinner. Not for Dim Sum.

Don't rate ling hueng, their beef Cheung fun is not great. If you speak Cantonese you can just order to your table, you don't need to go to the carts
