That's a brilliant start to "Sam eats it". Uncle Lau seems to be at par with Michelin star chefs. Hope this sampan style food stall stays for long and I can also taste the food from here on my next visit to Hong Kong. I will remember this place in Aberdeen.

Excellent video Sam and "producer " 😁 I will definitely be trying to find him when I eventually get back to HK which unfortunately is likely to be May 2023 now. I didn't visit Aberdeen when I was last in HK but it looks like a nice place.

OPERATION , seized that brothel boat and stopped all Sampans from using the typhoon shelter Bay for selling noodles and taking clients for a ride. Lucky that now ABERDEEN area still have these kinds of Sampans which can still promote these traditional and interesting homemade meals, THANKs Sam !

there should have another sampan vendor who sells from an anchored bigger boat when you walk from Aberdeen promenade towards the ferry pier to lama island (sok ku wan and mo tat wan). this vendor is specialised in sliced fish cakes and fish balls. it smells so good and you should see lots of local ordering and eating off the boat where there is a tiny park there

Thanks for this video, Sam. I totally forgot about the boat delicacies in Hong Kong. I normally ordered the Sampan porridge instead of the noodle. As a matter of fact, this was the birthplace for Sampan porridge that you may order from any porridge restaurants throughout Hong Kong. Your local producer may tell you more about the history of the Sampan porridge and introduce you to this particular delicacy.

excellent presentation Sam, I have never been to that Aberdeen side for the Sampan noodles, but I been to the typhoon shelter Causeway Bay area in the 1980s where we could taste the same yummy noodles with duck or seafood. Too bad when there was a big floating brothel boat that appeared thereat which attracted many clients using those Sampans to escort thereto instead of EATING the noodles that they ordered. Then all came to an END when the Authority commenced

Another nice video! It is fascinating to see sampans in the harbor, quiet and peaceful. However, it's hard to believe that some of the vessels still serve as homes to fishermen. In my view, it is kind of dangerous to live there during the typhoon season. Sometimes the storm was so strong that it could take down trees over a hundred years old! Hope those fishermen are always safe in difficult times!

There is an Ap Lei Chau bridge for vehicles and pedestrians, I was there in 1985, and I used that bridge a number of times, a 2-3 minutes walk. BTW, those are Hakka (Chinese: 客家) people, not Tankers. If you have seen the recent Disney movie Mulan, the movie shows the round mud building with many related families, they are the Hakka people. Yes, they were fishermen and liked to live on boats but most of them have moved ashore. In the old days, it is convenient to the boat people to get food and supplies without getting ashore, from vendors on their own boats. Those days are pretty much gone, like I have said, most of them live ashore now.

I had Sampan Porridges/Congees all the time. I thought Sampan Noodles would consisted of those same ingredients, but in this video is just the name for Lau Kee that runs his business.

Nice information, but if you are looking for hunting (as per the title) ...Hunting for wild boar is more interesting, and ultimately tasty. At night you can get away with it, despite the local law. 3 weeks ago we scored a lovely litter of about 1-2 month old wild boars. The meat was like butter to cut. Amazing!
