The 3rd Heljestrand mini series installment. Some mid-range work goin' on. Etsy Shop - www.etsy.com/s... Website - www.tomonagura... FB - /tomonagura IG - /keithvjohnson
Warped banana shaped Heljestrand. This reminds me of a FR (I know, not the best thing out there) I have in my box which turned out to have a spine straight from hell. It would develop a severe double frown when honed with x strokes. There is no way on earth anyone could have shaved with that thing. Had to grind the spine quite a bit to get it where it should have been.
Mostly this blade was a victim of rotten steel, micropitting, etc. There were geometry issues too, some caused by the steel failing, the rest might have been from the factory but also very possibly caused by bad honing in the past. After honing stuff like this, putting edges on new razors is boring.... lol.
I just finished up one of my Helje's - a Le Duce. Ran it up to a Shapton 16K glasstone, and it turned out pretty damed good. I love Heljestrand steel. Hard and hones beautifully. I've got a Le Prince as well, and its maybe my favorite shaver. Good video, Keith. Been awhile since I came across your videos, glad to see you're still hanging with the penguins.
Sounds good, thank you for watching and commenting. If you follow the channel and click on the 'annoucement' bell, you'll get a notice when I post a new video. Happy Honing!
Hello Keith Have you got this Spyderco- BenchStone ? The price on that thing is a bit high and I was wondering if that thing worth the price they asking and obviously if it's good for razor honing. Thanks
HI, thank you for checking in. Please note, this video is about restoring a Swede frameback razor and I want to keep the comments on topic. If you join a shaving forum you can probably get a lot of help with choosing a Kamisori. Try Badger and Blade, Damn Fine Shave, Straight Razor Place.
Hey Keith I love you videos. I want to send you a stone I make to try. If you don’t like it you can throw it away or keep it if you do. I’d just like to see what you think
Hi, thank you for the offer but I have a lot of stones to qualify already and I don't have enough time to get them done as it is. There's no way to fit another project in unfortunately.
Hi Keith ty for the vid you could call it the Rotter considering the condition it was in I too don’t care bout spine wear I’d rather it just get done not having to stop and re tape every couple of passes that 4 k stone looks to be a very quick cutter cheers
They are like Glass Stones, but thicker and no glass base. "Better" is subjective, some will dig them some might not. I don't have a Naniwa Pro 3k to compare, but I did a video on the 3k Rockstar - tinyurl.com/4pwhvx6t
@@KeithVJohnson1 Would you choose the Naniwa over the Rockstar or maybe just go with the new 3K Arkansas you did a video on? I’m trying to decide what 3K to use with my Shapton Pros.
I don't have a 3k Nani Pro to compare side by side but I think any of them will fit in that spot just fine. I think cost and availability might factor in heavily.
