What's fun about watching you guys is that when something doesn't work quite as you had thought you just roll with the punches and give everybody a good time keep it up I like to see both the little hole in the wall joints and some of the tourist joints along Waikiki
Thanks for the review on Nakamura Ramen, we always walk by there and wondered how it was. Kulu Kulu is yummy! I like any kinds of videos you do! Go Waikiki or Kahuku or where ever! Thank for another great episode! Aloha =)
Suntan Snoopy shop next door is the jam! I always pick up some stickers there. Love it! Oh yeah...we skip the ramen joint every time. Location is suspect like poke around Waikiki. haha
I am really enjoying your authentic reviews that are so well described, clearly photographed and brilliantly shared. You both have a friendly warm local style and I like the back and forth seamless sharing as you’re enjoying the mouthwatering delights. Having grown up in Hawaii I know exactly what you mean with your eating descriptions! Excellent channel, lucky I found! Mahalo plenty, keep up the ono grind sharing! Your sister’s empty dessert container said it all, must’ve really been ono lol! I prefer more local ono food, less touristy kine, but that’s just me. Hope to visit your local recommendations when I go back next time.
Awesome !!! We love Ramen ! Comfort food ... We are freezing our okoles in Riverside Cali !We gotta make our own ...can't wait to have some from home ! There is Pho hea ! But not good Ramen . Wow onolicious !!! Thank you for sharing ! Gail & Chris
This place tasted more like saimin to us! We always saw the long lines and wondered if it was good, it wasn't what we expected but nonetheless it as a good experience😆
We just are here today for dinner and the ox tail soup was awesome. Pro tip. Park at the longs drugs parking. Buy something there and they will validate. 3hours for 2.00. It’s a short walk to the ramen shop Thank you Amanda and Felix for the review !!
When i finally got off my flight from California, 2 years ago, this was the first place we went and this was also the last place we went before we left Oahu and back into the mainland. Being from a part of California that had lots of mediocre or decent Ramen places, I have to say I love the place. My family loved the oxtail Ramen, for me, I chose the Spicy Ramen. I'm not sure if I was just hungry or what, but for both times I engulfed both of my Ramen(words of my siblings) I think my other favorite spot was Marukame.
Hi Amanda and Felix! Enjoying your channel and makes us feel like we are home away from home. Have you ever thought of doing a breakfast review? Mahalo guys!!
I was there in June, waited in line for 1.5 hr I had the oxtail ramen it was delicious the roasted garlic and fresh lemongrass made it pop! and the gyoza was on point.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the honest review. It's hard to go visit cities and try new places and not know if it's worth it! Pumped to try a few places you've recommended when I get there in a week. Lovin the local recommendation. Thanks, I'll pass on your channel to all my friends!
Aloha ! I used to go Nakamura Ramen all the time when Hawaii didn't have so many Ramen shops like now. The reason this restaurant has always long line is because the owner is 小倉智昭( Tomoaki Ogura ) , the famous TV program presenter. This is the reason that Japanese tourists want to visit this place when they come to Hawaii. I agree with you guys about the taste. It's average but I love that garlic chips sprinkle over the top of ramen 😊
We always see the long lines and wondered what it was all about! Had to try it at least once but it was a good experience nonetheless🤙🏼 Thanks for watching🥰
This was the very first video I saw from your channel. I saw Hawaiian Ramen restaurant review, and I said, gotta check it out. I definitely enjoyed this video. Your honesty and style is very fun to watch. I'm a big Ramen/Soba fan! Being born and raised in Okinawa and being half Okinawa, my favorite is Okinawan Soba!!! I wish I could find a restaurant here in Honolulu that makes a good Okinawan Soba. I used to go to Violets Grill restaurant on Dillingham Blvd., but they closed down. If you know of any, please make a review video. I'm definitely going to subscribe and hit that bell thingy, lol. ALOHA, Kenny
Thank you for watching and supporting🤙🏼 We always saw those long lines and wondered if it was good. Wasn't what we expected but nonetheless it as a good experience😆
Felix hope you remembered it’s BYOB. Remember the first time I walked by and saw a sign on the door that they excepted cash only US dollars or Japanese Yen and I knew the place had to be solid. We used to come with a cooler of beer to Nakamiras and one day the older waitress said to me in her broken English not to bring the coolers anymore and am thinking this is the end of a good thing . Why I asked and she answered because I will put the beer in our cooler. Boom! My fav was ramen Erizco across the street but unfortunately it was sold and and a “higher” class ramen shop replaced it and latter closed. That place was the bomb and also BYOB. The Japanese people seeing us drinking would ask us or the waitress if they could drink also and off they went to7 -11 to buy some Budweiser.
You guys are blowing it up!!! Great seeing your subscribers growing! I hope you guys will do a review of your favorite POKE places..... one of the things i really miss from Hawaii......just can't find anything close in the Bay Area.
I always wondered about that place, but never went cause I thought it was just going to be all hype cause the tourists. Now I know...but... now I just want to try their gyoza..☺️. I love seeing Yvonne in your videos!! Hi Yvonne😊
This place tasted more like saimin to us! It wasn't what we expected but nonetheless it as a good experience and yes, the gyoza😆Glad you're loving seeing Felix's sister❤️
Have you guys tried the ramen at Wagaya? To me and my family, they make da best ramen in Hawaii. In fact, my brother goes to Japan a lot and he says that he only came across one ramen shop in Hokkaido that was, maybe as good, but not better.
We have! Wagaya is one of our go to places! We actually tried to go recently but with the pandemic and the restaurant already being small and them operating a lower capacity, we couldn't get in😰 Definitely on our to do list! Stay tuned🤙🏼
Hi, thanks for another great review! Can you recommend a Japanese Hibachi and Seafood restaurant to try? My family will be visiting week of Thanksgiving and staying at the Alohilani Resort.
How does a mainland tourist discern what's good, mediocre or simply bad Asian food of any variety? I couldn't tell you. A guide such as your selves would be an excellent place to begin. Could be the start of a booming business. Eateries would be clamoring for you to bring them business. With a limited stay and time in Honolulu I would rather go on an expert tour of island cuisine than to guess, take chances and be disappointed. Think of the possibilities.
This place tasted more like saimin to us! We always saw the long lines and wondered if it was good, it wasn't what we expected but nonetheless it as a good experience😆
Love the videos 👍👍. Have you guys heard of Ili Ili Cash & Carry in Moiliili? They have pizza and sandwiches. I think you guys will enjoy it 🤙, Keep up the good work.
Where can you get authentic Japanese ramen in Waikiki. The restaurant on Kushiro comes to mind but I can’t remember the name. Thanks, I,m getting some good ideas from you.
we went there and my husband and I had the same exact dish a few weeks back. It was really good. I actually liked my Tonkotsu better than the oxtail lol. The only thing I didnt like was that the egg was over cooked and the pork wasnt that great lol. but the broth to me was on point.
Aloha Amanda & Felix! Was wondering, are there any places on Oahu that serve ramen that don't use beef or pork in their broth? I don't have a problem with chicken, fish or veggie broth. I was surprised that Felix was able to eat ramen again after his ramen challenge a couple of months ago (lol!). I hope you can shoot another vlog when that place has the Lady M cakes available, I've tried them before when I was in New York City a few years ago, OMG they are SO delicious those crepe cakes :) Thank you again for all of your vlogs, they are very interesting and informative, keep them coming!
Hi Paula, thanks for watching🥰 We haven't really tried veggie broth ramen but one of our favorite ramen shops in Honolulu called Wagaya has Vegetarian Ramen on their menu! Definitely worth checking them out when you're here🤙🏼
An Yvonne (sp?) sighting! Noice. And, omg ... I used to work across the street from that ramen shop and never tried it. I think the sign was a turn-off for me. I guess I didn't miss much. lol. I just had some Tonkotsu at Momosan in the 'Alohilani Resort and it was pretty good. But best ramen is (in my opinion) is at Wagaya on King. Definitely try it out if you haven't been there. :-D SoooOOOOoooo good. And I love me some Kulu Kulu ...
We like Wagaya too! That place is always busy 🤤 We would always see the long lines at Ramen Nakamura and wondered if it was good! Wasn't what we expected but nonetheless it as a good experience😆
You guys probably know Chonny and Delana but the next time they come to Hawaii you guys should do a collaboration with them that way you guys can take them around to some really good places
That ramen sure beats the package stuff. I've gotta watch my salt so I use very little of that package mix that comes with the packaged ramen. I put some veggies , a hard boiled egg, and slices of chasu in my bowel of ramen. Walked by Ramen Nakamura many times while I was back in Waikiki for my anunt's funeral service back in July of 2019. I was staying at the Luana Waikiki Hotel just up the stereet from this place.
I'm from the mainland but have tried Shiros Saimin Haven, Shige's Saimin, The Old Saimin House, Dillingham Saimin, and Palace Saimin (not sure if these places are still open). Other places I haven't tried are Jane's Fountain, Meg's Drive In and Forty Niner Restaurant plus some of the other places that have saimin, but didn't look authentic like McDonalds so we never tried it. Here in Southern California there are a couple of places in the Gardena / Torrance area that still have saimin.
@@ronyano of the saimin places you name, only Dillingham Saimin (formerly known as Boulevard Saimin) closed down last year due to covid-19 and struggled for busines..
@@hawaiiguy1 Thanks, we have reservations to go to Oahu in April and are hoping to eat some plate lunches and saimin. I just pray that there won't be any Covid 19 issues that will prevent us from making the trip. Mahalo
Nothing like a hot soup on a wintery Honolulu day. Outside temp 79 degrees and i believe I'll need a fleece cap, coat and fur-lined gloves. Burrrrrr. Next stop waffle house.
