@joecorrero6763
@joecorrero6763 3 года назад
Robert Anderson Ryan also leads MLB with almost 5800 Strikeouts. He also had 325 wins, I think. But anyone who can throw 95+mph at 46 years old and put an ass whooping on a 26 year old who charges the mound....that guy is #1 in my book. Both great men and Seaver was only 2-3 years older than Ryan. Gooden would’ve been there but couldn’t stay off the drugs
@robertanderson2898
@robertanderson2898 3 года назад
@@joecorrero6763 Yeah that's fine. Yes, he was a complete workhorse, no one will ever beat those Strikeouts, or his performance after age 40. Gooden had the best rookie year of the three guys though. I'm just saying there were better overall pitchers than Ryan.
@joecorrero6763
@joecorrero6763 3 года назад
Robert Anderson Maybe so, but Ryan has about 15 mlb records that will never be broken by another pitcher. There’s always arguments about Mlb pitchers but when it comes to INDIVIDUAL records with pitchers...wins, strikeouts, no-hitters....He holds 2 of those and many more that will never be broken. He retired when I was 13 or 14 and I was just a huge fan of his. Yea, there might be a “better” pitcher, but I don’t think there is one. Anyway, heaven claimed another great one yesterday with Tom joining that awesome team up in the sky. Stay safe and God Bless...Joe

Thank you for this post commemorating the memorable MLB career of Tom Seaver upon his recent passing 9 / 3/2020. As a longtime native Fresno California from his hometown, I would like to pass on my remembrances of him. Although I was not a close personal friend of him while we both attended Alexander Hamilton Junior High at 102 East Clinton Avenue in Fresno and also later at Fresno high at 1839 North Echo Avenue( we didn't attend grammar school together as he was at Fremont elementary School near to where his parents mr. And mrs. Charles Seaver lived on North Channing Way above West Clinton Avenue. I attended T.L Heaton Elementary on East McKinley Avenue. Seether graduated from Fresno high in 1962 and I graduated from Fresno high in 1963 as I was a year behind him. His story in his early life is from my observational experiences and some contacts with him as well as a friend he grew up with in the same neighborhood on Channing Way and who was of the Fresno high class of 1961. This friend I became acquainted with later on in my life several years ago and that from his recollections in my contact with him there are interesting life lessons in principles to be learned from George Thomas Seaver AKA Tom Seaver or" Tommy Terrific" Seaver that many of today's parents, who overly push their young athletically inclined with God blessed you athletic Talent become Major League ability by the time they are 12 or 13, which results in them burning out and never fulfilling there possible developments of the athletic talents they were blessed with. When Tom Seaver was young he did Xzibit some baseball Talent. Is Father Charles, who was a golf pro and instructor, and accomplished avid amateur golfer professional was instrumental in developing his son's career. He probably recognized some ability in his son that maybe Cedar at that age did not see and he tried to stay with him being on Tack and practicing baseball pitching. Although Seaver didn't appreciate sometimes his father's mentoring, as he was a young Junior High student with interests in that time we're in high school that go with developing from puberty to Young young adulthood. However, he obediently acceded as he could to his father's desires. When I was the seventh grade in the spring semester of 1958 at Hamilton Junior High I tried out for the Hamilton Hurricane baseball team. He was in the eighth grade in this junior high which went through the 9th grade. Remember that he had a very good fastball as I struck out on my first appearance in practice before him. He didn't have any other types of pitches perfected. Although he was accomplished in Babe Ruth league juvenile baseball, after being Little League, he actually pitched in the Citywide championship game against Wade Blasingame , a noted local left-handed pitcher who later start at Roosevelt High School in Fresno, eventually becoming a pitcher for the Houston Astros. Cedar with his encouragement from his father and other family continued working on his teaching abilities. He eventually made the Fresno high varsity baseball team in his senior year after being on the junior varsity for some time. At the time, it wasn't evident that you would have send to the MLB and rise to the stature that the world & the United and people of New York City have come to no. There were other pitchers from the Fresno area at that time including Dick Ellsworth (FHS '58) tamahu pitch for the Chicago Cubs; Dick Selma Tyler also graduating Fresno high at the time and pitched for several MLB teams as well as Jim Maloney, and MLB Hall of Famer for the Cincinnati Red Legs., in addition to Wade Blasingame that many Fresno's felt would make a bigger impact in MLB baseball Ben Seaver.( I had the Blessed opportunity to interview mr. Maloney on a couple of occasions for underwriting investigations on major insurance policies when he moved back to Fresno after retirement while I was employed by Equifax Services.) Tom Seaver didn't really Blossom as a picture become known as he was in MLB history now until he was coached at Fresno City College by Hans Wiedenhoffer and when he transferred to USC by a nationally-known University baseball coach, he became the status of a Major League when he started with the New York Mets. The lesson here which is learned is patiently encouraging the efforts of your children in such pursuits so that they can develop to their best potential without the regard of Fame and Fortune which results in people not accomplishing their goals in many instances. He probably is long ago when he accomplished the level of achievement of having 311 lifetime wins as a major league pitcher, having strikeouts in excess of 3600 and winning three Sai Young Awards and other achievements has thanked his father many times for his vigilance in his younger years. As a result of this he was also a successful in post-retirement ventures in baseball game commentary and other business interests. He married his early school sweetheart and was recognized in a visit to Fresno in the early 2000s and having a portion of echo Avenue North of McKinley to Weldon running along the front of Fresno high change to Tom Seaver Lane. as noted in the video he also had a portion of the street in front of Shea Stadium listed as 41 Seaver Way. Tom Seaver way on this portion vehicle runs in front of the Fresno high Majestic Royse Hall and the campus on the west side of Tom Seaver way. This Fresno high location was open in 1921 after Fresno high had been moved from downtown Fresno, starting in 1888. My Uncle Charles Innis, my grandmother's youngest brother, was in the first graduating class at 1839 North Echo location. Although I was a longtime fan and follower of the San Francisco Giants since they moved to San Francisco in 1958, I have always followed Tom Seavers career with interest because being a longtime Fresno native and have had a proud recollection of of how his efforts benefited this community as well as those who are close to him and we're blessed to have known him. It was indeed heartwarming that he did make it back to the franchise of the New York Mets before he retired after being traded to Cincinnati Red Legs and then the Chicago White Sox. Although he is rightly remembered by New York and the New York Mets fans as the franchise player, you will always be remembered in the Fresno as the greatest franchise MLB player coming from this city and the San Joaquin Valley.

Tom Seaver was to the New York Mets what Joe Namath was to the New York Jets. Both Men brought the city back to life and made the city a city of champions along with the help of the New York knicks. From 1969 to 1970 no one could beat them, they were the envy of everyone.

I was a kid in 1969 and didn't know all that much about baseball. I was eleven years old and from a small town in Arkansas. We didn't and still don't have a major league team in the state. But,, my grandparents lived in Astoria New York and in 1969 I was visiting and my grandfather took me to a Mets game,. They were my grandfathers TEAM the Amazing Mets! They played Cinncy that day and I saw all those greats,, Bench, Rose, and I think,,, Seaver was pitching,,, I've thought about that day ever since! I even got one of those blue plastic hats! :) Anyone remember those? Tom will be dearly missed but never EVER forgotten.

As a Yankee fan growing up in NY in the Horace Clark years of 1965 to 1975, I hated Tom Seaver. The Mets were winning, the Yankees were losing and Seaver led the way. A class act on the field and off. Truly one of New York's greats (though I didn't feel that way at the time). RIP Tom Terrific.

@Allen Rappaport I agree on his mechanics. It’s one of the first things I recognized from the videos. Efficient and compact. Sad day for this Bronx/LI boy. I was there when they clinched the pennant in 1969 as a 16YO. Great memories. RIP, Tom Terrific.

Tom Seaver was a far better pitcher than any of the others to grace the uniform for the Mets. I will never forget the year I was in 10 th grade and they beat the heavily favored Orioles 4 games to 1 in the world series. The starting staff consisted of Seaver, Koosman, Gentry , McAndrew. Ryan was on that team as well. He often came out of the bullpen. Tom Seaver was just so dominant. Truly one of the all time greats. I actually read a biography on him years ago. I vaguely remember a minor league team that he was on being called the Alaska Gold paners . Tom is easily the best starting pitcher the Mets have ever had.
