My husband & I are BIG on creating 'heritage' & keeping our local interdependence/shared history alive. I Live in the house my paternal ancestors came to when they immigrated from Ireland in 1851. It has stayed in our family since then. I try to reflect on 'their' history; 1851, leaving a potato famine ravaged land to come to America as dirt poor immigrants. I try to think of the trauma they may have endured, but also the HOPE that their move embodied. So while I consider myself AMERICAN first, & have much to celebrate on Independence day, I also give homage to my Irish ancestors that were so brave to cross the ocean to get here. I reflect on all the struggles within their lives going on down to my own generation. It has not been easy for our family to hold onto this land/home/farm. There have been many traumas & crisis that have caused us to almost lose this place over & over. And then I reflect on the neighbors that surround us. Many are farm families that have very similar stories and all of our families are intertwined throughout our history. Our farm still partners with a couple of them - 1 is an uninterrupted partnership going back 100 years. Do you know how HARD it is to have 2 families get along for that length of time???? Lots of understanding, dependence, wisdom & forgiveness. I actually just sat with the patriarch of that family yesterday and we looked at old photos of him & his family. I LOVE listening to his stories because they often include tidbits about my family that is long passed. I married a man that grew up 5 houses away, so we also have a shared history. There are many things we don't even need to explain to each other because it is like we have one thought, as we were just experiencing the same stuff simultaneously. there is a real comfort in that! My husband has such a fractured heritage that he delights in the part he plays in mine. We are constantly community building & have tried to stress interdependence to our kids. We also stress being proud of where your family came from & the part you will play in the future. I often think of where i live (time & home) as the REAL 'sheltering in place'. (I hated that phrase during covid for what they were using it to mean, so I took the phrase as my own to mean something different lol). My family has been rooted & 'sheltering in place' for a long while & I hope my children will proudly carry it forward

There is so much information and wisdom in what you share, I can always learn something new from a rewatch. I also love the peaceful feeling I get when I hear you and your husband speak. Kelli, I just wanted to say thank you. I started watching Scott & Kelli several years ago, but have especially enjoyed watching Home With Kelli. I have always found your videos to be sweet and uplifting, For several months I’ve been wanting to rename my channel, revive it, and change the direction it was originally headed. I struggled for a while with a new name, and didn’t really know how to incorporate my new vision for the channel, but I kept coming back to you and your channel. I loved the simplicity of the name, and how it could encompass so much, so thank you! Thank you for sharing your life with us, and thank you for the inspiration.

That's a great point. As an African American I've always loved independence day as a time to be with family but I think I ought to learn some more history of my ancestors during this time. Great reminder😊

Hi Kelli, I’ve been praying for you and Scott for pregnancy to happen. As a retired labor and delivery nurse I would like to share a couple of simple tips for helping conception along. First check your diet for a high acidic food intake. An acidic cervix is hostile to sperm. Second… the highest time of fertility is 12 to 14 days from the beginning of your period. You may already know those tips but I thought it couldn’t hurt to let you know just in case. Love all of your videos. You are a sweet couple❤ Jane

Thank you! there's certainly a long drive to separate the ?native (what would be the word, even if you can't really say these days due to so many invasions, Vikings etc) British from our past, Celtic or Pict etc, with so much integration of other cultures few British people actually know the history of these isles, I'm taking pre-Roman, neolithic and older. I can trace my mother's line back 400 years from the same area of the country, it's an important point to be in touch with your roots even if it's uncomfortable. x

Dr. Profossor Barry Vann with 'The Vanntage Point' tries to get to where peoples names originated before they came to the U.S He thinks that we came from Scotland years ago BUT that The Almighty sits on the throne. His family just got back from Italy aand is at hoime in Powell Valley Tennessee.. FINE guy! God Bless Yall
