I used to get smudges before Tip #1. I used to always get mascara on my lids before Tip #5. My eyes looked older before Tip #7. These tips plus 5 more make applying and wearing mascara so much easier on my Hooded Eyes.

I needed this video. I struggle so much with mascara. Going to have to get one of those fancii compact mirrors and try this. I even try to put tape on my eyelids before applying mascara.

The key for preventing smudging (for me anyway) is to make sure the eye area is powdered. Also, I brush the outer tips with clear brow gel once my mascara has dried if I’m using a mascara that tends to smudge.

Eyelash primers take my lashes from natural long lash to a false lash look, love it when I remember to use it😊I just graze my bottom lashes slightly, I personally feel not touching them at all gives the eye and unfinished look, just enough mascara to see them☺️

Yeah, if I don't apply mascara to my lower lashes my eye look doesn't look complete. I don't use as much on them but I do use more than what's shown in the video. I like them to be noticeable yet defined without looking like spiders...

I'm fortunate, I have perfect flip eyelashes. I've never had to curl mine. However, I have hooded eyes too. So I found the tips very useful on mascara application. Yeah, spider eyes from the 60's early 70's, lol! I use two different mascaras. I use one on the bottom with a very straight spooling. Better control and I never put much product on the spoolie.

I agree cheap eyelash curlers are not our friend if you want nice looking lashes 😊 I do like the Shu Uemura eyelash curler, it never pinches my eye area , it's been the "one" my favorite for over 5 years 🥰 The Essence Lash princess sculpted volume mascara is another beloved favorite , the wand is slightly curved. Thanks Bobbie for another great video. Take care everyone

just how important is lash curling? my brows are so heavy, my eyes are terribly deep-set, I'm definitely going to try lid primer, but watching someone put that contraption right up next to their eye is terrifying D: I have a hard enough time just doing the mascara by itself!

Hi Bobbie I use a tubing mascara and find that really helps avoid smudging etc. I have naturally curled lashes (I have curly hair which is probably why), but they are very blonde and less dense than they were when I was younger. I also have "dry eye" on the right eye caused probably by rosacea, so it waters a lot. I have tried waterproof mascara, but found the irritation from removing it everyday caused issues with my rosacea at my eyes. The tubing mascara melts off with warm water and is easier for me to remove (I do use a balm or oil for makeup removal, but the tubing mascara is easier even with the balm). I also find waterproof mascara very drying on the lashes and it can make them brittle, but I have dry hair etc so that might just be me. I still have a decent amount of lashes and prefer a more lengthened/separated look, so the tubing mascara works for me. For an event I will apply a normal mascara over and/or under it for more oomph, but for everyday the tubing mascara alone is fine for me. Best wishes.

Which one do you use Loraine? I tried one (can't remember which) and I didn't like it at all. It also didn't hold my curl. Maybe I should try another one. I haven't had any problem with brittle lashes or irritation with using waterproof, but it is something to be aware of if people have rosacea or dry eye.

I’m with you Loraine, on all points - I only use tubing mascaras, never have smudging (although I do without fail with normal or waterproof mascara, even with primer and powder). My faves are Thrive and Prime, although the new Tarte one is good too. From the drugstore the burgundy and white one, with a primer on one end is fabulous, but sadly I have a Paraben allergy so can’t use it. Good tips Bobbie 😌

@@MindfulMidlife Hi I'm currently using the Clinique one, but I've also used the DHC quite a few times. They both have a slim wand which is what I prefer. I don't find much difference between the two, but tubing mascaras are mostly from Asian brands (firstly from Japan). I have heard good things about others and they don't all have the slim wand I prefer - different wands do give different effects on the lash re volume etc. None of them are really affordable (although the DHC version is not expensive compared to many others). If waterproof normal mascara really works for you then there is no reason to swap as such. It's just that for me it is a better option, but I have specific issues involving my eyes. I have heard good things about the Hourglass, mac, Thrive and Caliray also. x

@lorainemcgillivray77 Год назад
@@paulabray4865 Here in the UK we don't have the thrive or caliray, but I have smaller eyes and like a slim wand on a mascara. Plus I don't need to worry about holding a curl, being a natural curly haired person. I won't go back to normal mascara - the tubing mascaras just work so much better for me. I too often had smudging with waterproof and water resistant normal mascaras. The L'Oreal one mentioned is a lot more expensive than the DHC here in the UK and is the same price as the Clinique (I know weird right?, but L'Oreal is far more expensive in the UK). My latest tube from Clinique was from a kit with an eyecream and liner - it's good value for the kit. x

Eyelash curlers can make the mascara smudging problem worse by curling them backward to touch your hooded lid. They can also make your eyelashes look shorter. Consider this when using.

I already have long curly lashes but I did buy an eye lashe curler just to see what it would do for them. Mine is cheap. I have yet to be pinched or have it pull out any of my lashes. I've been using the tilted up and down head trick to apply mascara since I started using it in the early 80's. It's crazy because I don't know how I knew to just do it, lol. I LOVE that Essence liner. It's the only one that will stay put in my waterline regardless of brand/price point. I did try the twist up version. Someone recommended it to me but that one disappeared just a few minutes after application. That's odd right? You'd think the formula would be the same for both... 🤷‍♀️

I good melting balm works well for me. My favorite is from the Banilla company. You can find it at Ulta. ELF has a good one and Clinique is amazing as well. I use it all over my face to remove all makeup and rub my lashes gently until I see the mascara break-up or smear. Rinse with warm water and follow-up with a good cleanser. The balm only takes off makeup.
