This is so weird, I was having lunch in the cafe at the Metropole Hotel (seen at the beginning) on the day this was filmed, but not being from Belgium I had no idea who the singer was. I’ve been searching for this video for years, but no luck until now. I watched Eurovision and I really liked Hooverphonic, so I thought I’d check out the other videos, and THIS IS THE ONE I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR! 😀 A ~15 year old mystery cleared up!
I am also here because of ESC.The video is really charming, with all the people in the background wondering what is going on. Really cool that your question is answered :)
C'est avec beaucoup de plaisir que je redécouvre ce morceau entendu pour la première fois en 2008. Il est plein de profondeur et la musique renforce cette impression. Bonne écoute à tous, Christophe
Geike Arnaert, my personal favourite of singers, which Hooverphonic has had till now. It brings back great memories of the time, when I studied in Brussels and this song was in the charts!
This song has a wonderful, sweeping orchestral introduction which sounds just like it came from the 1960s....That is because it was lifted directly from a 1960s song with a wonderful, sweeping, introduction..."Young Man Cried" by The Walker Brothers!
That's exactly what this song is all about. But don't forget where The Verve got their inspiration! The Andrew Oldham Orchestra - The Last Time ▶ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9YrllfAMwHI.html En THIS is the original song: The Rolling Stones - The Last Time ▶ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gdFQtbXAWdc.html And that's how music evolves and keeps on getting better (or worse 🤣 )
I don't understand how I have not heard of this band before. AMAZING. And may I say - a lot of John Barry influence in quite a few of their songs. Love it.
I discover them by Eurovision. I practically never hear them because they were only known continental Europe, but this song is amazing. Greetings from Chile!
@@jamescartash position 19 is not really an achievement - they have such iconic songs in their repertoire, i just think they could had come up with something stronger-a real banger like sometimes. the wrong place is a good song but its a grower- u have to listen to it many times until u start to love it. for those who listen to the songs only at the finale its not good enough.
First time I watched this video was on italian channel RTL 102.5 in 2006, but the funny thing: was in black & white, and until recently that version was available also here. This one, in colour, I found it in 2007 and since then I love Hooverphonic. So sad they didn't win the Eurovision, but their presentation was really good
@@oleksiybudyak1650 I counted about 5 takes so I'd say it changed 4 times. PS: I was wondering why they didn't do it all in one take, thanks for answering that question!
@@doktormcnasty The weather seems to be different even on the same location: at 2:34 she has to endure quite some breeze while the people in the background do not have anything. Belgian weather...
It’s only in the past few months that I have discovered Hooverphonic. Firstly through Depeche Mode then Eurovision. I’m playing them all the time……love them. When I first heard Sometimes I expected her to sing ‘ it’s funny a million little things still run through my mind ‘. She didn’t. Hooverphonic have sampled The Walker Brothers ‘ Young Man Cried ‘ Brilliant.
C'est drôle de voir à quel point le centre de Bruxelles a changer en quelques années 😊 Et j'ai toujours été étonnée du peu de vues que fait cette musique qui est pourtant ma préférée de ce groupe ...
Amazing. Absolute world class. Love the bitchy lyrics and facial expression. Specially when she sings "don't you get the point? You're much too slow for me." Billion times better than Madonna.
After Geike left, I thought it was all over, but then Naomi appeared and I did not worry anymore. When will Alex write his James Bond Soundtrack? Admit it people, his music fits like a glove to OO7.
I hate to inform you about this, Rudolf, but today, Noemi informed the fans that her collaboration with Hooverphonic is to be terminated after the last three shows next weekend. I'm afraid Alex just can't seem to hold on to talent.
I heard, I wish her the best. But after Geike there was Noemi, who after some reluctance on my part proved to be a worthy heir. I'm sure Alex will find someone new, and the same thing will happen (for the sixth time).
Scoperti qualche anno fa grazie a "Anger never dies".
How big were Hooverphonic exactly back in the day? Before 2020 I have heard of them, but couldn't mention one song of them. Their old singer has returned, and I must say it is for the better. She is much more iconic than the young girl who would've sang a year ago. I have also stumbled upon the due to Eurovision. Their song was classy, dark, smooth, mysterious. I really liked it. I still listen to it. This led me to discover more song of them. This made me realise they were around for quite some time.
I used to listen to them a lot as a kid around 1998-2005 (purists will say the band was already declining at that time). They were pretty successful in Belgium, I saw them in concert twice (back when Geike was the lead singer) it was always a great time, much more energetic than the more orchestral turn they took later on
@@theojacqmin5796 strangely enough I don't remember any of their early songs. This one doesn't ring a bell. Nor does Mad About You, which is I believe considered their biggest hit. One thing I don't understand: why do they so often change their lead singer? This year the old lady (my age) was singing for them at Eurovision. Last year a young was going to sing for them at Eurovision. I was watching a few interviews of them. The guy with the glasses and playing the piano and speaking continuesly. The others barely got a chance to say anything. Especially the lead singer. She had a very vacant look. It felt like she experienced this a lot of times with the piano player.
@@hasanordek I would say they were the most successful when Geike Arneart was the band’s lead singer (their first trip-pop oriented was recorded with the singer Esther Lybeert, who is relatively unknown nowadays). Then there was Noémie Wolfs, then another one, but I had already stopped listening to the band after « The President of the LSD Golf Club » that was their last okay album (for me)… now Geike is back ( that was her at the infamous 3 points Eurovision performance), but I really don’t know anything about the dynamics between the members of the trio… (and nooo she’s not an old lady poor thing 😭)
@@theojacqmin5796 she is a year older than me 😉. But I didn't know how to describe her. And older is not necessarily a bad thing. But she is older than the previous singer. By the way, she wore her Johnny Cash t-shirt during the interview 😉.
@@hasanordek In Hooverphonic have passed 6 singers. The first was called Esther Lybeert, and left the group before the success. Then came Liesje Sadonius (the singer of the album "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"), and left the band two years later for personal problems. After her came Kyoko Baertsoen, but she was literally kicked out of the group because they've found Geike Arnaert at an audition. Geike stayed since 1997 to 2008, and abandoned the group because she wanted to start a solo career. Some years later arrived Noémie Wolfs, known for "Anger Never Dies", "The Night Before" and "Amalfi". 4 years later she left the group because the relationships among her and the group got worse. They became a duo and in 2018 arrived Luka Cruysberghs after her triumph at "The Voice of Flanders", where the leader of Hooverphonic was a coach. In 2020 she was practically kicked out and Geike Arnaert came back.
I've just discovered this band. I found a few song that I like. In general I'd say that their instrumental choice is amazing. But sometimes the voice/lyrics are weak. Sadly... But this song is well interpreted. It's one of my favorites. My absolut No 1 is: 2 Wicky. Incredibly good video too.
I agree with you we have talents that are out of the ordinary have a good day with me and if you want to listen to something a little message have a good afternoon gm
