In the 70's we used a lot of tongue and groove in the Netherlands. We got rid of all of that in the last 20 or 30 years. Now everything is plastered and often white. I kind of miss the warmth of the wood.

Here's another tip. When cutting wood with a circular saw, use your speed square to get a straight cut. Much better than eyeballing it.

You need to check the temperature on the wall behind the stove to make sure the toung and groove doesn't dry out and catch fire.

Great job. I think the woodstove area needs an anchor. A 1 by 1 or 2 x2 in black vertical. Tie the black together on both ends.

One thing you could have done behind the stove would be a flagstone/paver wall to not only keep the wall from getting too hot (cause that wood will get WARM) when the fire is running, but it will also give you a thermal mass to radiate when the fire goes out at night.

It's funny how my cat is the indoor pet and my dog is staying outside most of the time. The food doesn't make the cat lazy. It will hunt no matter what.

Charlies reaction to the sweatshirt made me laugh out loud! He is so fun and full of energy, such a cool dog. It's too bad the wind came up and cancelled the balloon festival in town, regardless, the kids got to see the set up activity and I'm sure that was fun for them. Rickie is getting so big and grown up. I love how the wall is looking . The color of the stain is spot on IMO and really funtions to tie everything together. Good decision on taking the T&G over behind the wood stove. It looks great to me. In my opinion, the combination of the T&G, entertainment center and the colors you chose for paint and stain are the most transformational aspects beside the flooring, in the entire space. Oh my gosh Charlie in a jumper 😂 If you think the windows may get too hot during summer, maybe consider exterior blinds that will roll up out of the way when not being used. Love the warmth the colour has brought to the wall. I'll wait until it's finished to decide if I would have taken it to the wall 😅 as I'm unsure which I would have done 😊 I took my son on a balloon ride for his 10th birthday, he'll be 30 this year, so this brought back memories ❤. Looks great I wouldn’t go up all the way to ceiling it looks contras glad the stain isn’t dark . As you were building that piece, my mind was going all over the place. I remember you putting the tongue & groove behind the shelving of the other piece you built and I even thought that it would look nice covering the wall behind the television as well, which it does. I would have done the same thing. I think a black screen mesh for the doors might be nice too; with a wood frame for the doors. It would make the doors less heavy, but I don't know how well it would keep dust out. I think I'd go for it if it were me. Great job guys!

This looks really great, really warms up the room. We did a pallet wood ceiling in our family room. We got a whole trailer load of used pallet wood for free. Although it was free, the sweat equity was tough work because it came from an oilfield environment. So we scrubbed and sanded and then finally stained and polyurethaned all of it. People always remark on the warmth of this room when they visit for the first time. We also brought that wood down behind our wood stove, within the safe limit. It's been here since 1995 and not a single problem.

Everyone sleeping? Redundancy is a must for sure. I love the wood wall. Imaging hand nailing beaded stock just like your wood, but on the cathedral ceiling in a 24'x32' home with 3 - 24' long Gluelams. I had to construct a temp. floor to put my ladder on to reach. The bottom of the top beam was 17 1/2' above the floor & I only had an 8' ladder.. I clear coated the wood and beams after I installed all wood.

I think some more of that led strip lighting either in the top corner of the wall and ceiling would look beautiful catching all that wood detail at night. Either that or some bias lighting hidden behind the TV.

Awesome job. Starlink is such a pain with their long cables. Suggestion...put blocks under the top to make a rap for all that extra cable. Should be out of sight then with no cabinet doors...😉

As far as that gap behind your top shelf that goes across... you're doing it right. An Old Yankee carpenter told me one time... Add wood, till it looks good! I do have one question though. And I've noticed it before. When you are nailing the tongue n groove, seems like you are just nailing, Me, I'd be trying to hit studs. Just wondering how well the nails just going into sheet rock is gonna hold up? The added TnG wall, made a perfect accent wall, really sets it off! These custom touches you have added, are spot on and makes your place look all that much better!

Mini Roll Tops? Wouldn't it look good if you were to install roll top doors on your lower entertainment cabinet? You would not have bulky handles, or hinges to deal with. Just roll one up to access the space behind then roll it back down when cabinet space is not in use. Also the lines in a roll top door would go along with the tongue n groove lines on the back wall. You don't want doors and she does so this idea gives both of you what you want. And they are relatively easy to make and install. hope this idea gets to you before you do the front of your cabinet.. So far this project has come out looking very chic and modern. Very pleasing to the eye. Many thumbs up!!! Me southern AZ.

Love the wall! I (meaning hubby) want him to do that in our family room. Are the boards expensive? Do they come in a bundle, or did you have to purchase each one separately? Just love all the personalizations you have done. Your sweet daughter did not look too happy that it was a no go for the balloons. I would have been disappointed too. Your friends from Indiana.😊

Loved the end product, but can you "Not show" the end product at the beginning please!!. I like the surprise at the end, What happened at the Balloon festival?, blew them up but didnt take off???. Still a nice day out for you'all. When did you last check on youre water tanks?, did you know that Snow is basically Water, so find some Clean snow and put it in the tanks and it will turn back to water.😁 Sun actually shining here in UK today @ 14 deg. Food for thought. The dark door of the mudroom entryway might look good with the stained wood inset into the 3 squares. Maybe hold it up there and see. Regardless, I love the colour scheme and design of the mudroom and entertainment areas. Great job.
