My first day in Mexico I get the Stewart & Stevenson hopelessly stuck in a salt marsh up to its axles. After three days of digging, an army of people helping & a number of trucks & tractors we free it before a full moon high tide could potentially claim it forever.
Special thanks to Scott & Buck (@thermo_klein) for coming to the rescue all the way from Florida!
I am back on RU-vid after a 6 month absence!
ACROSS THE WORLD:

This epic road trip is broadcast to all of you through a weekly, largely unscripted & raw epic overland adventure series on our RU-vid channel.

I was actually just down there to assist a buddy of mine that was racing in a 250 mile race but came home yesterday because the race got cancelled. Due to the cartel violence. First time I've ever had that happen in all the years I've been going down there. My favorite part of the peninsula is the middle section. Love the San Juanico area and the little fishing villages south of there. One day I plan on building a rig like yours and heading to Baja and points beyond. Safe travels!

Working on a winch mount now, although in that particular situation self recovery would be impossible.

@@drivetheglobe For sand recovery you can bury a tire (exhausting) or use a "dead man anchor". I contacted them and they said buy 2 to get enough pull power. Last option is giant stakes roped together known as a picket line.

Hi Mike. I only made it through half your video. I have been watching video journals made by explorers who are travelling across the Baja. I myself have travelled the Baja twice from central BC to Cabo on a motorcycle. I purposely did not journal my trip online because to me these places are almost sacred. My first time out here was 20 years ago and some have come for the winter even before that. There have been a few books written about their adventures and you can see on the pics that this place was a lonely paradise back then. For those of us who love to get out of the way and who love nature to crawl up their noses and into their hearts it has been a very sad thing indeed that the internet has destroyed that isolated secret place. I don't expect you to understand that. This winter was shocking. The hordes of vans and campers that flooded into these places, due I believe to the broadcasting through travellers such as yourself, was very disappointing. We watched while people used the edge of the beach for a bathroom, made stinky fires with the wrong kind of wood, kept others up half the night and parked so close to each other that it looked like they were afraid to spread out. Van cities sprung up overnight. I picked up their garbage after they left. I sadly have to accept that the next generation, the starlink generation, will be showing everyone how beautiful it is here. Or was. I will have to find some other haven of rest, but I will keep it a secret. And by the way. When will you actually drive the globe? You have made very few miles since you started. You were in one spot for 5 months. Where will you rest next?
@drivetheglobe
@drivetheglobe Год назад
I have to say, I spent the whole winter in Baja this year and have a very different perspective. Agree with you if you stick to the "gringo" areas. But I travelled throughout the peninsula - in fact rode the Baja Divide by bicycle and didn't see a single van in any of those places. The reality is- post covid there are MANY more people living on the road- and will be going forward. If you think Baja is bad visit a US National park. As for driving the globe, I continue to- been on the road 3 years now. With covid, and then shipping issues and a closed route in Asia now it is tough- but I am in no rush.
