Regardless of 8-week project timeframe, this is probably the most badass well designed vehicles I’ve ever seen. You can tell you put thought into every inch. This is amazing.
I'm a trim/finish carpenter who's been in the game for a good while. I've worked on VERY expensive homes and I am considered a B- grade carpenter. (There are like 50 A+ carpenters in North America, in my opinion.) Anyway, I couldn't do this in 8 weeks reliably, by myself. It's not something I would take on with a contract if I couldn't have at least a remedial grade helper. Whoever you are, whatever your background, you are a fucking beast. Hats off.
@@drivetheglobe ...Ex master apprentice here who can totally concur. Seen teams of day labor and government subsidized union workers take longer to do less quality in commercial rental space and contemporary yuppie hives...aka _condos._
The inside looks more like a tiny house almost. Amazing how original it looks even with the pre-made furniture. The hooks on the drawers of the Ikea table added so much character! Loved it!
Just wow, this is one of the best layouts I’ve ever seen inside of an overland vehicle hands-down, doesn’t matter what type of materials that you used ,you built it for you not for anyone else and I think it looks absolutely fabulous great job!
I saw this and thought,.. Oh Im probably not going to like this one,....when in fact im floored!! This is a magnificent build... wardrobe, bed, COOL ASS TOULET!, SHOWER!! WOW, Awesome job!!
The best overland expedition camper I have ever seen in my life, in my opinion this is the best camper I could ever see , most of the campers that are big like this camper don’t have everything in order like a full size kitchen, shower and toilet with a comfortable bed everything a house has this thing has in with great space and it feels exactly like a normal home just in a tiny form factor on wheels
Don’t feel guilty about utilizing IKEA. This is a very good company their product if assembled properly is very good I commend your decision nicely done
Wow looks great, yours looks so big compared to my build I’m very impressed. I think the fact that I had to have the ability to sleep 4 made a big difference in the design. Honestly though, I love the style, the colors and materials and the toilet is great! And you did it at 22,000 lbs that seems very light to me I’ve yet to weigh in but wouldn’t be surprised to see 28k. Congrats my friend you killed it!
Thank you. Yes, probably easier when you are only trying to design for one or a couple. I would be surprised if you got that high of a weight. I think I may have removed 2000 lbs of extra weight from the floor and outriggers on this thing. Plus the rear door delete etc.
Well done on this build... Splendid taste as well. Great video, and very informative! Watched it several times, and there's some ideas in here that I'll be using in my rig. Thank you!!
Incredible Mike. You have always been a awesome builder but you out did yourself on this one. Can’t wait to see what is to come for you in your travels. Cheers.
I love all the improvements and how the tiny home turn out it’s amazing all the stuff you fix in such a small space and they all fit perfectly well together, great job on what you have to this truck wow:
Congratulation my dude, what a great build you made there! You gave me great ideas for my own project, thank you for that! Looking foreward to the next video! Greetz from Germany
@@drivetheglobe Very nice! If I may ask, how much did it cost you to build your rig? When you come back home from your trip, will you start to build these rigs for other people that want to travel too please? Thanks!
You made a home, bravo sir. If your video didn’t mention or show it was a vehicle, i would have thought you were showing off an updated small apartment. Your kitchen, especially that sink really give it a homey feeling. They way you set it up, specifically the foldaway table & hidden workstation makes it hard to imagine it’s such a small footprint. I hope you are as proud as so many of us are impressed. The dreams your work has inspired!
Wow, that interior is gorgeous and the fact you did it in 8 weeks. Amazing. I have parts that have been in order longer than it took you to build your interior. :)
Thank you! Ha Ha, I have parts that I have been waiting for longer too 😂Like my awnings.... grrr. Thats gonna be an interesting install now that the interior walls are done.
WOW!! You did a phenomenal job on this tiny home. It has so much character and I love how you made it look like an actual home not a camper. I could live in this! Lol!
Thank you! Glad to hear. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and do it. That is what I have learned. Was a little scary living out on the road at first but so many great experiences and so many awesome people. Cheers!
As a Swede 🇸🇪 my self , I’m pretty impressed that furniture from IKEA works in Overland truck(s). What a great job you’ve done !! Drive safe , drive far 🚚💨💨💨
@@drivetheglobe Life is too short to focus on hate. FMTV (LMTV) the world ! P.S. Amazing channel. I'm sure I'll be watching you more often, now that I have my own M1079 on the way.
It's impossible to put anything on the net without getting a little hate. That doesn't mean that hate is justified. He's killen it! I'd love one of these monsters.
8 weeks for this result is incredible! Wish you had film the build because it's such a nice finish - have you documented by any chance any of your plumbing or electrical install? An overall cost video also would be great to be able to get an idea if our budget is realistic! Once again, well done :) Chris & Ange
Thanks guys! Really appreciate it. I did do some filming so I will get those out eventually. Ha Ha, as you know- if I had done a lot of filming it wouldn't be done yet. Will do a cost breakdown soon and I will do a video breaking down plumbing and electric too. I keep watching you guys- it is coming along well!!!
Doh. Speechless. I kinda wait for the "utilities" tour. Happy to see numbers too. Mine looks like a waste pit compared to this. Sad to hear there is no video of the bedroom frame build.
Amazing build. So well thought out and stunning. The one thing I'm unsure about is the lack of access directly into the cab. Don't you feel like that creates a safety issue? Do you ever feel uneasy because of it? I feel like I'd never be able to sleep in the back, and any sound outside would make me panic if I didn't have direct access to the cab.
Thought about access from the cab but it would have taken up too much room in both the habitat and the cab- and probably would have also leaked with the cab tilt to overcome. In all of my years traveling I have never had any issues- especially with big obvious non discreet rigs. Thanks for watching..
Very cool! I’m in the early stages of design/layout of a camper I’m building and was looking at idea cabinets. They make so many different products that I feel I could adapt to what I’m trying to do, just a little worried about how it all may hold up after a few hours down a bumpy dirt road. I know it’s still early on your build but do you have any pros/cons with how they’ve held up or expect to hold up? Thanks again, looks great!
Its early but I have taken them on one brutal dirt track already. Honestly, the cabinets in my trailer were way less quality and that thing went all over the place on poor roads and off road and they survived fine. I think they will be solid. Thanks for watching.
Great Job! As with all such things, it's what works for you and what you like that matters. I think it's a brilliant job on a well chosen vehicle. I just love the kitchen...well, to be honest, I just love the whole house!
5 star man * * * * * amazing what you build, especially the custom 5ft extension at the rear for the bed, very clever, bed = lots of room with little weight, perfect at the rear, lots of clever details, love it... simple techniques, so you're able to make mods and repairs anywhere in the world. And your shower is amazin, better than any hotel :-D
Quick feedback, everything you are saying in the first 10 minutes or so could have been said while you were showing your rig. Show and tell, don't just tell would make for a better vid. Love your rig, all the great work you've done , and your trip. Keep it up! Good luck in your travels!
👋🇨🇦. "DAMN!!!!!!!" Without a doubt, you've built the nicest S&S conversion I've seen in years. I was in the process of finding & watching your walk-thru of the Unimog but saw this post. I'm not even interested in the Unimog now. You have an amazing piece of kit there!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Looks like a great build-out. Did you use any special tools in the design to make sure all the systems were taken into consideration and worked/would fit together? Nothing like getting things installed and then realizing you need to run a cable or pipe through an area, or that door clearances wouldn't work etc.
My god....this is the sexiest, stylish and best executed overland vehicle I have ever seen. You have a gift. I always find something to change with builds, but this is perfect. I could easily live in this the way you have it set up. Do you do consultations for people that want to build their overland vehicles? Would definitely hire you if you did. If you do, please let me know how and where to contact you. Well done on your beautiful home.
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words. I have done some consulting in the past and will be doing some instructing at Overland Expo. Not really doing anything too seriously though as I am traveling full time on the road in this rig right now. I would be happy to chat if you ever have questions though. Thanks, Mike
Looks really good. Lots of inspiration here. I recently bought a 4x4 fire truck that I am going to convert into an expedition vehicle. Maybe I will see you out and about one day. Safe travels!
What a fantastic rig! I just started looking for a platform to begin an overland build similar to yours. I've simply gotten too damn old for the expedition trailer with a rooftop tent. Would you mind sharing a rough cost of your build?
I know what you mean! Being full time, even my trailer was not enough. Build cost is a tough one. Really depends on what the base unit costs. Like everything else they are going up rapidly. Because I dis nearly everything myself I am around 80US.
awesome! Yes, it doesn't matter what the vehicle is as long as you get out there and explore. And "tiny" compared to most peoples full time living arrangements. Thanks for watching.
This is amazing. Not stealth camping is it?! Although I can't help being impressed, and I like the build, not sure I entirely approve of such a monster. But top marks for creating it.
Thank you for sharing your setup with everyone.it gives me something to think about and put on my bucket list.this woukd be awesome travel the world in ... Money doesnt buy hapiness they say ...
Wow! that's a kitchen! Love the windows! The best, shower/wc, bed/closed area and kitchen, of course. But in the Mac area, I can't see how you can fit and use your mouse. Very impressive, job. Altogether an awesome truck.
Thank you!! Wish I could post a pic here but I guess that is not an option, desktop folds down so plenty of space (about 30"x24") of desk top space to work on.
I have those Artic Tern windows. A little-known feature is you can close the latches in the middle gap which leaves the windows open by less than an inch but is still sealed at the top to prevent rain entry. Opening more than one and the MaxxAir fan provides quite a bit more airflow than you might imagine.
