Hopsewee Plantation in Georgetown SC built around 1740. It was the home of and birth place to Thomas Lynch Jr. one the signers of the Declaration of Independence . On this tour i get to learn about the gullah people. Hey Y'all welcome to my channel. Join me as I travel the Highways and Bi ways is search of Adventure where we will explore Roadside Attractions, Abandon Places, Museums, The Weird and Strange and maybe even a food review or two. My family and I visited this plantation. When my feet hit that soil I cried uncontrollably. It's a strong spirit of our ancestors on that plantation. I can't even began to imagine what took place on that plantation.

I love these videos about plantation homes. Alway so beautiful I know the times were hard then and I wouldn't have wanted to live then .but the places are beautiful and I live the trees with the moss hanging from them .oh heck I love it all .thanks for sharing.

My 7th great-grandfather, Thomas Lynch Sr., owned this plantation, and it was built for him by his son. My 6th great-grandmother (his daughter), Elizabeth (Lynch) Hamilton married Revolutionary War Major. James Hamilton (my 6th great-grandfather), and they settled on Rice Hope Plantation in Berkeley, South Carolina not too far away. Love this video, and so glad the house is still preserved!!!

Elizabeth’s mother was Hannah Motte (my 7th great-grandmother), who’s father was the Charleston treasurer Jacob Motte. Jacob Motte, my 8th great-grandfather, owned Mount Pleasant Plantation in Charleston County. According to my DNA test, Thomas Lynch Sr. was Irish, English, Dutch, and Belgian; and Hannah Motte was French with distant nobility.

That’s awesome! We’re related! I’m related to Hamilton’s on a different family line on my grandfathers side. My grandmother was a Lynch, who’s grandfather moved to Northwest Arkansas from South Carolina. This was around 1800. Jonack Lynch is my 8th great grandfather, who emigrated from Kent, England to South Carolina after being expelled from Ireland. The Lynch’s were a powerful family in Galway, Ireland. There were 84 Lynch mayors over time. The Lynch Castle still stands today and operates as a bank. Fascinating history! What I don’t understand is, why Thomas Lynch Jr isn’t considered a third. His grandfather was also named Thomas. Jonack Lynch would’ve been his 2nd great grandfather.

I see the joggling board you're standing next to in the beginning of your video. Every South Carolina Plantation I've visited has one ,usually near the porch. I love Georgetown, it's a beautiful area, rich in history. Thanks Tony for taking us with you 😊

Thank you for sharing! I plan on taking my family there to visit. Thomas Lynch Sr is my 1st cousin 8 times removed, and Jr is my 2nd cousin 7 times removed. Parts of the family settled here in Northwest Arkansas. Jonack Lynch is my 8th great grandfather, who emigrated to South Carolina from England.

It is amazing how the wood detail for it time. We have machines to cut it now, chalk and pain it to match. Makes me wonder how they did it back then

I've always wanted to visit a plantation but haven't made it yet. I'm gonna start with Brattonsville since it's not far from me..... I have always loved the wallpaper and beds they used to use. This whole place is beautiful and the history is very interesting, though of course some of it is sad, it would be a great learning experience.

I can appreciate this tour guides high opinion of The Swamp Fox but she did not elaborate and give evidence of her negative statements concerning the lack of capabilities of General Washington.

Great tour of the plantation and it’s history. Up to 20 people living in that small cabin😳 no pot to whiz in and no windows to throw it out of, just holes with shutters. Nice video 😊👍💕

Been to that plantation, did you do a video of Georgetown? Georgetown done a really great job rebuilding there town after the steel mill was shut down
