RIP Lance Reddick.......you will forever be immortalized in this fantastic series. Hands down one of my favorite characters. He played that part perfectly.
As someone who lives in LA, I have to appreciate the care taken to capture the city. They got everything right, right down to the streets filled with lava. Just A1 work all around.
Its so unfortunate Lance Reddick past away. He was such an important character in the Horizon story, they probably recast but its not gonna be the same without his voice playing Sylens
Actually the game looks better than ever since they focused mainly on the PS5. The graphics looks so damn good. I’m still playing the main campaign and I can see the difference in graphics and performance.
Great DLC, a lot of things about it I’m enjoying. One of the big wins was the ability to import my PS4 game complete save file to my PS5. I beat Forbidden West on PS4 when I was trying to secure a PS5. This helped me out so much as I don’t really have time to go back and beat Forbidden West again on PS5. The only issue with this is I had to relearn how to play the game, and how to fight the machines again. One of the Burning Shores quests had me facing two leaplashers, two ravagers and a stalker, and I was burning through health berries like no tomorrow just to survive the fight. I definitely recommend travelling Forbidden west and take on some Apex Machines to find your groove again before hitting Burning Shores.
Omg thank you I didn't know the save file could be transferred. I'm stuck on ps4 for now but I was worried about having to beat it for a 3rd time this is a relief 😅
thanks for your comment!! I was looking for this!! I still have a ps4 but wanna buy a ps5, so I was scared I had to beat the game all over again! Thank you soo much!!
I really think Horizon deserves more love, it is a amazing game, a very well done open world, great narrative, the best enemies design I've ever seen and how the gameplay is guided by those designs is a masterpiece. The game as a whole is not an 10/10 it lacks something (maybe an good ending, or more replayability ), but still deserves much more love. It is a better job than a lot of "AAA" games that are crap/more of the same. Can wait to play the DLC, but definably I don't remember how to play that game... is it a reasonable challenging game, with a lot of elemental, weapons, enemies and I remember to struggle to select which one to use, or to even have a set of equipment that give me everything that I could need in combat.
It's unfortunate they decided to release right before Elden Ring. Probably not the best choice because it invited a lot of unfair comparisons and scrutiny
@@executioner_ecgbert884yeah it definitely got bodied by elden ring lol, but ive been playing it and its a blast, elden ring was amazing too but horizon is a breath of fresh air after the lack of hand holding in elden ring
The developers kept releasing their games at the wrong time. With zero dawn they released when Zelda came out. And with this one they released it along side elden ring.
Such a bs marketing decision by Sony. Why cut off the majority of their customers? The game looks the same, just a couple of new interactions. Tbh this DLC should’ve been part of the base game anyway.
@@JJ-ze6vb nah man I just played it and it does look and behave better, the final boss is epic asf and absolutely needs ps5 to run. I’m afraid it’s just not made for a ps4 system, it’s too intense
just expect a channel of this size, they put anything out just to have content. watch other smaller players who enjoy the game to get a proper review where passion for the game is at it's core, not views
I think it was a slip of the tongue lol Him getting the DLC name wrong also felt less egregious than Falcon pronouncing at least 1 main character or area of a game wrong in every other video lmao
As compared to actual gameplay. This was straight out of a GoW 2 or 3.... and then it turned into a simplistic (if annoying) pattern-play (hit, shoot-shoot-shout-jump-shoot cycle rinsed and repeated)
The Frozen Wilds felt like an amazing improvement over the base game at the time with lots to be excited about. This sounds like it won’t quite reach that height for me but I’m still excited to play it in the near future.
It’s the same as frozen wilds new machines new location new characters new weapons new story few hours of extra gameplay I really feel like people are just hating when burning shores actually has more then frozen wilds I feel like ur expectations was just too high for no apparent reason and we got a good boss fight at the end too
Straight up y’all, mostly agree with gameranx. Keep putting our great content guys because I’m here for it. All around definitely would recommend. The content is refreshing and fun. I didn’t even expect one new machine and the fact that we got at least three that we can see in the open world and I’m not even finished the main quests yet fantastic. Love the exploration and seeing guildon again fantastic. I love stories that connect back to past events from the story. Adds great detail to the story and the continuation of it
Yay, I just finished downloading and pumped to play DLC. I'm glad I just finished it again on NG+ Also Jake are you guys ever going to do the glitch comp videos again?? Those were so hilarious and awesome 👌 😊
Funny af they didn't even answer you😂 Just go to random comments and give a 👍🤝 😅😅😅😅😅 Yet you peasants still keep asking questions knowing you ain't getting replied to, you're kinda like an abused gf that gets treated bad and called names 😂
I love watching your reviews, Jake, but I gotta say I'm glad Eric wrote this because if I recall correctly, this franchise never quite landed with you. Since this is a post-game DLC, most of us who might buy it are big fans, so it's useful to hear from someone who seems to really get why a lot of people are in love with this series.
I have been waiting all year for this. Love the base game. Left 8 side quests open to play when this came out to get back in the rhythm of it again before I play DLC
Can't wait to play. Forbidden west was my favorite game of that year. Just like zero dawn was my favorite of '17. Excited to see what the future holds.
@@kirstenwyatt9675 I highly doubt it'll get released to other systems as PC support is still a long way off and this dlc just wouldnt work on old gen consoles
I loved the DLC. I agree that it felt lackluster in the machines and armor/ weapons department. That being said, I’m absolutely in love with the specter gauntlet and the new specter face paints. Hopefully they’ll eventually add some Far Zenith style armor. 😅
So what you're saying is the game sucked, but you liked the face-paint? What do you mean Specter gauntlet.... I'm confused? The spectre's in the DLC become either easy or meaningless (same as the Corruptors). If you finished the main game buffed (if you did most side-content) this DLC is kinda weirdly pointless. Like a 10-15 hour cut-scene. Sure great graphics, but the balancing and story just doesn't make sense. Some of the hardest moments for me came half-way through the game... the end was either easy or just cheap (un-real) deaths for the sake of difficulty.
@@AdelaideBen1 The Specter Gauntlet is a legendary weapon you can find in game. That is all I will say about that. With Horizon: Zero dawn’s “The Frozen Wilds” DLC they added plenty of new machines and weapons. The Burning Shores has new machines and weapons, but in much lower quantity. The main gameplay didn’t change at all, and I’m perfectly happy with that, as Horizon: Forbidden West’s main gameplay loop has always been fun to me. Aside from all that, the DLC isn’t pointless. The weapons and armor that you CAN get can be rather powerful if used correctly, but I already had weapons that I liked going into it, so I didn’t feel the need to upgrade. That makes the weapons department feel a little less important. And finally, the dlc is important to the story moving forward. Very important. It highlights Nemesis, and opens the path that Aloy will take to fight against it. I.E the major companies who were developing weaponry in the past. All in all, no it didn’t suck.
@@danemyers2520 you mis-understood… it wasn’t meant to be a serious comment. For me, I thought their were some good lore parts, the enemies were either unimportant or annoying (the bilegut was designed to be irritating more so than challenging), and I like you didnt need the new weapons. I thought some of the story elements shouldn’t be in DLC - it’s the Marvellization of gaming IMO… especially when it comes to relationships. I enjoyed the feel of the DLC but just felt it was very light compared to Frozen Wilds. I’d give it a 7/10. It had some great environments that were mostly pointless - and hardly any new exploration (which I what I liked the most). I was also a bit underwhelmed by the big-boss fight at the end.
@@danemyers2520 also - my entire internal SSD just barfed, so have to reinstall all my games because of the DLC failed. After I do, I’ll look at the gauntlet. That and finish playing the very last 5 mins of the game (that I missed out on because it failed)
@@AdelaideBen1 Sorry, I thought it was meant to be serious haha, but I 100% agree with you. It could’ve been a bit better. 7/10 like you said, though I’m biased as I focus mainly on the lore so… 8.5/10 from me.
It really did feel like this DLC came out of nowhere. I had forgotten that the DLC was even coming out until a few days ago when my friend reminded me to pre-order it 😂 I'm going to really try to sink my teeth into it tonight
Thank you for this video! I recently - finally - got a PS5, and intended to play Forbidden West again but it wasn't a priority. Now I'm excited to play through again just so I can play the DLC.
But what about the waterwing that allows you to dive underwater? That’s such a nice new interaction with the map! Weird not to talk about it and say there is only one machine??
this guy refers to frozen wilds as frozen waste. so it's clear that he didn't play the game and don't care about the series which is ok not everyone must like horizon but if you're gonna make videos that may influence people's decisions to buy the game or not at least make an effort and play the damn thing
@Project FireFly i was talking about the guy who wrote the video not jake. and even that doesn't excuse the fact that he didn't rectify that error which shows that he doesn't care or even like the franchise .
For one half-arsed mission? And you didn't need to even find a cauldron... just apparently story.... TBH, the Water-wing and Sun-wing are 95% interchangeable.
Frosty wastes was a great expansion Though I've never played that, nor the base game, I can tell you hot beaches dlc is even better. I haven't played this one either -gameranx
You were spot on with the small but tough relearning of the controls. You are thrown into the action right away. But I noticed that in a few hours all the muscle memory was back and i was whacking those machines left and right including the only new one who is pretty annoying with his little pesky helpers. Stinking mosquitoes.
Just started it and z couple of hours in! Hearing Lance Reddick in what is probably one of his final game appearances raised a tear or three! Going slowly tbh and savouring it because god knows when we actually face Nemesis! Annoyances include getting trapped in wreckage after destroying a big ish enemy and having to fast travel to get out! Pluses include the skiff and flying over LA and paragliding around tower records 😅 yeah I'm a music geek too
One of the downsides of having a geometry heavy landscape is that there's plenty of scope to get caught/locked into a space that is a bit pointless, but just because they can't explore every space you jump or evade into. My concern is that other than perhaps 2-3 times, I never felt that I needed to use the environment that much. Hence it was pretty set-dressing, for a 2 person show.
Started this DLC yesterday and really eager to see the story. Machine hunting/fighting is the same as it was (I like HZD better in this regards due to simplicity and balance) and as entertaining as ever. The world is big and beautiful. I have reasonable doubts if Burning Shores will exceed Blood and Wine as THE best DLC for me, but I'll give it a chance for sure.
excellent presentation. just bought a PS5 yesterday after finishing Forbidden West on ps4. so gotta do it all again to get to this add on. Was figuring to get the PS5 eventually, but this gave me incentive to speed it up..since PS4 games are playable it made sense.
I'm so excited to play this DLC, and I can't wait for Horizon 3 (that rhymed)! I literally haven't even played the game since the first couple of weeks of its release, when I finished the story. Also, Jake, it's 'The Frozen Wilds' from Zero Dawn, not 'The Frozen Waste.'
I just started a NG+ playthrough a few weeks ago to get reacquainted with the gameplay and story. Plus I wanna go into the dlc as overpowered as I can.
I literally just beat it before clicking this video. It is soooo fun and soooo gorgeous. I love this game and while this DLC was short, it was fantastic.
Can I point out too that although there are no significantly good outfits, stat wise, they can be used as 'looks' which you can apply since some do look great.
I understand that feeling. After playing horizon forbidden west with the quality of life changes and improvement to the combat, that would be a little hard for me 😂
@@kaihill8464 true, I remember Frozen Wilds hunting trials being the most difficult ones by far, and not only they were mechanically challenging, it took a ton of resources just to have enough ammo. Turns out buying 6000 fuel for explosive ammo was the true endgame after all 😂
Coming back to a game after a year or two for some expansion is always a pain. Trying to remember how to even play the game in high level areas is rough. Normally I end up starting over but I'm not sure I want to do that yet with HFW..
I was hoping to play Burning Shores last night. But I was fighting the last final secret boss in Octopath Traveler 2 and finishing up the game. I’m so excited to jump back to Horizon.
I already brought it so far I'm loving it. I beat the first mission and did a side quest. So far I like the new characters, new location, and new machines.
This game, Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel of the game Horizon Zero Dawn which also has a DLC called the frozen wilds. This video is for the DLC of the sequel called burning shores. I recommend getting the first game too.
This game looks beautiful plays well they had a lot planned for it glad we getting the dlc’s and VR modes it was super unappreciated playing it for a second time might consider getting this when I finish .
Don't know if you will see this, Eric did a great job with this. For a second, I thought the audio cut out... Then I realized the capture guy wanted the audience to enjoy the game as it is without Jake talking over it. Not to say I mind any of the changes. Just wanted to say I liked what you guys did with this Before You Buy.
Just got the PS5 and I started a whole new game. Got the DLC and cant wait to finish it again so I can get to the L.A. I really love the Horizon story and love this game...especially since I first played it on the PS4.
Love it. Like always with any new release, i'll wait 60 days before buying the DLC so they can send out whatever patches/updates/improvements before i buy and play.
Fingers crossed that we get more than one expansion this time. there are still so many cool areas on the west coast that would look great in the Horizon world
It definitely does. I like the game well enough. But I really wish Aloy would SHUT UP a lot of the time. And there is a lot of hand holding that can get annoying.
I'm having such a blast with this new DLC. I can get lost for hours in this beautiful new map. You already know the 3rd Horizon is gonna be mind-blowing. I'm not a big fan of the outfits. But thank God for the transmog system. Hopefully, they add transmog in for weapons as well. Welp, Later reality, back to the Burning Shores I go. ✌️
@@mattmaas5790 I don’t even own this game, and couldn’t get through the first. I need a game with a good story. These game’s definitely don’t deliver that.
ONly played a few hours so far but the DLC seems pretty good. I have noticed glitches, but nothing major or game breaking - most werre with Seyka freezing or not animating correctly. Really excited to play through it
still haven't figured out how to actually access the DLC yet... finished Singularity about a year ago, been doing side missions and such since then, and no Sylens has popped up nor the welcome window to open the Burning Shores DLC. (the DLC is mentioned on the title screen now tho') What to do?
@@matthijsweststrate5552 yeah that's what I had to do... basically had to download it twice. Once to the console off the eshop, and then 2nd to the game itself...odd, but ok I'm good now
One pet peeve that has always stuck out is when your running and you want to do a slide in many cases Aloy will slow down just a tiny bit just before you press the slide button will make her do a freaking crawl instead! Wish to hell they'd fix this in some way. Aiming for very specific parts on enemies with very specific elements while the robotic enemies can just hit you anywhere and not get caught in any combo can send you flying and rolling on the ground each time still doing pretty damn good damage, plus getting "Gang Banged" by multiple enemies that all work amazingly well as a team regardless of species is just the best! What redhead character in a video game doesn't love a good, "Gang Bang?"
There's no pause between sprint and slide. You must have sprint set to "hold" instead of "toggle". Set it to toggle. In fact, with this DLC they got rid of hold. It is only toggle. In fact, they augmented that menu so you can choose hold or toggle for other operations, except sprint.
Ngl but I'm so jelly that yal were able to explain this when I couldn't word it out better that yal did. That's what open world games need,if its gna be a big map then studios should have to get more creative w/the side quests because imean of course the campaign is gna be good and I'd then wouldn't have to mind paying the $70 (hopefully campaign is good), so hopefully they start doing creative entrances/skippable cutescenes side quests!
Just started Forbidden West after playing through Zero Dawn, via an old PS4 gifted to me by a friend. Have already admitted to myself that I will be springing for a PS5 so I can play Burning Shores once I finish Forbidden West. Thanks for this great (and spoiler free) video.
I’m listening to this review and not watching the screen because I’m holding off playing the base game and the DLC until I get a PS5 and I want to go in super fresh. Thanks guys.
Some feedback to Gurilla It's very disappointing to see that there are not a lot of op weapons I need to grind for in burning shores. I remember in the frozen wilds dlc where I had multiple playthroughs so I could fully fill my weapon enchantment slots so that I could have a fully maxed out kit. Even the Armour was very good, although I dint have to work hard for it, I got it after completing a main quest I belive. It felt nice that even though it was pretty hard to finish the side and main missions they were worth it, offering me op items. Gurilla if ure seeing this, I know the probability is less but if add an update please add some more weapons and Armour or even weapon coils like in the first game where if we grinded the game for example have multiple playthroughs of the dlc it would be very rewarding. Just like the frozen wilds dlc.
Go for the legendary critical hit coil (+15% damage and chance). There is also a bug after defeating the first tower where you can loot two of those coils. I have stacked them on my sharpshot bow with 2 of those elite coils and 3 (+15% crit chance coils) and its extremely OP on ultra hard. Have fun man
horizon zero dawn i didnt like that much...so question is will this new release be that much better so i might like this more? hzw vs hzd? Some seems to like the other more n vice versa? love open world games n exploration w some battle(witcher 3 goes w out saying so i guess 1 of the best games still i think) So 21 march i think on pc for 60-65euro is it really worth it or should i mayby get dragons dogma 2 instead in march? Thanks 4 another great video
