Using a Hacksaw Blade works great to cut the straight cuts . No need to remove the extra for Flaps to move the blade is wide enough to make the space while cutting

I know this is a Horizon video, so I’m a little surprised, but I wanted to throw a couple of pointers out there for those that want to do this. 1) A DXe is actually a 9 channel radio, and if you have an SPMA3065 programming cable you should be able to get your DXe to control the Flaps channel with no issues. 2) For flaps you don’t actually want the servo centered, which is why the procedure in the manual has you set up the flaps channel before you hook up the linkages. The Flaps up position will usually be at something like 100%, takeoff flaps at 0, and landing flaps at -100%. So get the servo at the Flaps up position with the radio and then connect your linkages. This will save you some headaches. Looks like they got lucky in the video, your luck may not be so good. Best to follow the procedure in the manual and not skip steps. Happy flying!
@janrc
@janrc 5 лет назад
I totally agree with you. I have installed the servo just you have described, with the 100% as flaps up, 0% as flaps in the middle (or near by) and -100% flaps are full down. The next thing is the flaps steering metal is by far to lose. I have glued it into the flap holder otherwise the metal struts will become and obstacle for the flaps up position.

WTF, DOES THE DXe WORK OR NOT? I went out and got a DX8 because you said the DXe that came with my plane wouldn't work now I see in this comment that it does. I know you can't edit the video after it has been posted But you should edit the Video with a text correction and take this one down. At the very least you can edit the Title, Description or Both otherwise it seems a little shady to have people go out and SPEND AS MUNCH OR MORE THAN THE PLANE COST FOR AN UPGRADED transmitter when the RTF transmitter will work just fine.

Slightly Twisted this is not Horizon Hobby’s comment, it is a viewer who was simply giving advise. If you plan on staying in the hobby for at least a year I would keep the DX8. It is a great transmitter and will last you years.

You do not need a new transmitter. As long as you do not use the LAS sensor or GPS, the flaps servo can be installed in the reserve channel on the flight controller. The DXS/DXE has a reserved 3 position switch, you can use, that is not used for any other function on the plane. Personally, once I get my plane, I do not plan to get a gps or LAS sensor for it. I do not need that technology. A plane that flies good is all I need. I am installing flaps for shorter takeoffs and slower, smoother landings. I plan to mix the flaps with the ailerons too so that the ailerons go down with the flaps and I have more flap area on the wing. However, the flaps cannot function as ailerons because both flaps are controlled by one servo. This is called a one flap system. The ailerons can function as flaps though. You may call me stupid for this because sometimes you may need ailerons for crosswind or unstable landings and takeoffs. However, if I am landing or taking off the plane in conditions where the wind is making my plane unstable like a crosswind landing, I would not use flaps. Some small plane pilots actually do this when it is windy for more positive control of plane. www.boldmethod.com/blog/learn-to-fly/manuevers/how-to-fly-a-no-flap-landing-final-through-touchdown/ Somebody else also did flap and aileron mixing too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mAzEQwYoZwI.html Some planes actually use this protocol too. So point proven, if you are performing a normal landing or takeoff and want it to be quicker and safer, use flaps. If you are in windy conditions or even have a mild crosswind, forget flaps. You need better control in those conditions. If you own a DXS/DXE which is a non-computer, simple transmitter, you can buy an adapter and a bluetooth reciever and change settings and channel mix on IPod/Iphone/Ipad or a pc with the Spektrum AS3X Programmer app. Spektrum Tx/Rx Bluetooth programming module www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPMBT1000. www.ebay.com/itm/Spektrum-A3068-USB-Serial-Adapter-DXS-DX3-/264838648465. Once I get my plane and the servo, I will post a video of flaps setup for a DXS/DXE and channel mixing.

I have installed the flaps. Here my experiences: 1) The linkage must be carefully adjusted. The flaps are not both on the right position. 2) The metal parts steering the flaps are often to lose and does not work. I had to glue the parts in the flap plastic holders to get them running smoothly. 3) Actual this plane does not need flaps. My flight experience is: the plane become much harder to control with flaps because it feels the plane is more sliding to the side. It is not a good idea for beginners to use the flaps!

Hello my name is Wayne, and I just purchased a DX8E & the Carbon Cub S+. How hard is it to setup the DX8E so that you can fly the plane with your own DX8E. I mean I just literally walked in the door with both of the same that you have . The one thing that I did notice is that it looked like you were trying to do was setup the receiver, and maybe because it was already bound it set it for you. Is that true? So if I bind my receiver to my plane can I expect that will happen with my plane and receiver?

I tried over and over had someone else try and it would not bind. Did the bind process with the original transmitter and it binds immediately! We followed the instructions to a T and nothing and yet it binds immediately with the original DXs!! We even removed the batteries from original transmitter and moved it to an entirely other room and nothing!! Any thoughts???

If you unplug the GPS you can use a 6 channel radio with flaps I use a DX8 but also works fine on my DX6e. Also make sure you set the flaps for 12mm for 1/2 flaps and 25mm for full flap. How it’s set up in the video you will balloon at 1/4 power and no elevator correction will help you cause your flaps will be be too far down.

Use a towel on the bench and watch to make sure you dont have anything hard between the wing and the table. You could see the imprint of the connector on the wing when Mr. Hamhands pushed the wing down into the connector, screwing up the foam. Do not be like this guy. Also, you should adjust your flaps to whatever the manual says. He was wrong saying you dont have to. Read the manual, take your time and dont do a HACK job like this guy did. Always, always center a servo before installing it. Unless you want to strip it or break something.
