Thanks for the good overview! I feel like this concept is GREAT, but I know that zero co-workers will want to use personal FB accounts to join a meeting. Even if you got security approval from IT (extremely unlikely), let's say you're a small company without high InfoSec standards, I think most people I know really keep their personal social networks out of the work environment. So I guess it has those two big hurdles working against it being used in the way it's meant to. It could be cool for students maybe doing a group project or friends doing a side-project, but I think corporate or professional things won't go to FB any time soon.
Yup especially here in Canada where Justin Trudeau signed us onto hat European union IT law subset...cant recall the name it was a couple years back but it changed ALL the legalities of IT work in Canada. You are Liable for SO MUCH MORE now....peoples moroonic choices are now your problem. I can say with absolution my system policy will never allow this to be used in our environments.
It does seem to be at least partially separate from the FB account used for the Quest, for instance I needed to setup a separate account for oculus workrooms despite already having logged in to oculus. But all the same the perception is still there
@@Incommensurabilities Interesting. I haven’t tried it out on my own. And yeah, perception will be hard to get over. I do like the idea. I just think it needs to come from some third party like Zoom or whatever if corporations adopt it.
What we need is an AP that scans your entire room with the camera and allows you to label each mesh as a separate thing; like wires and desks and keyboards and books. That way when we enter the Metaverse we can already have a complete layout of your work environment uploaded from your phone for you to work in and invite your bosses and coworkers to either; your house or an office space.
Dude i LOVE the quality of your videos! Keep uploading. May i ask how you do it? what would you recommend? You gotta specific video editor you prefer? Or some other factors you have.
Just tried to use it to do some light work. Great idea but still a bit clunky. I can't wait for the day apps like these can be as fast and efficient as using your workspace in the real world but with all the VR benefits like different environments, virtual working etc.
Can we hear the audio of the computer when you share it to the whiteboard. For example, I want to show my students in the room a video. I can't hear anything.
I'm a language teacher, i'm really interested in it...I'd love to be able to customise environments and suddenly transport all my students to the Moon or something haha
Do not worry, as a Systems administrator and consultant for many businesses. This will NEVER be allowed in our IT environments. policy would never responsibly allow your facebook accounts into the work place, I can say with absolution i will never allow policy that asks for this. The new IT regulations that the EU proposed years back got signed in a heart beat by Canada's PM and we are liable for every stu-pid decision you as a user makes...it is now your IT guys fault. so this will never happen. not without massive legislation changes.
ridiculous micro managementware. i'm starting my own business so i never have to put up with anything like this and if i ever need employees they won't have to either
Whilst it's a good start I don't see the benefit. Wearing an oculus device is not very user friendly, the FOV is like looking through toilet rolls. For long periods it's uncomfortable. What does this so over standard video calls?
