How do you place your remote receivers in your model when using Spektrum™ or JR® DSM® technology? We walk you through the tricks of the trade to show you a good place to start for better placement in your model. We show installations in both an all composite 94" span P-47 and a large balsa and plywood DV8R turbine jet. These two installations cover the two main material bases used in model construction. We discuss basic receivers with one remote as well as the extreme PowerSafe receivers. In the end, we fly the models to some extreme distances close to the ground and at very high altitudes to show the quality in performance of the DSM link between the pilot and the model. After the flight, we examine and explain the use of the data logger for those interested in optimizing their setup.

The goal is to get the receivers as far up off the ground as possible to ensure they do not see ground clutter interference during take off and landing approaches.

Need an updated video on the new Spektrum receivers. Why do the antennas come out of the receiver housing parallel? Why did you stop molding in the little nubs we used for holding the Robart air tubing for guiding the antennas? Why did you choose to use stiff antenna wire instead of more pliable wire? I've had antenna wires break off at the housing because they are so stiff.

These are lessons learned the hard way - by thousands of crashed models in the early days of 2.4 before the development of redundant antennas in different planes. Signal shadowing by engines, fuel and batteries caused many many crashes despite JR and Spektrum assuring us their systems were secure. Ask me how I know this. . .

Have you considered horizontal and vertical signal polarization? I am a Ham radio operator and experience has proven this can be a tremendous factor in signal strength. If the transmitter antenna is vertically polarized and the receiver is horizontally polarized it can weaken reception. I always keep my Spectrum trans ant pointing vertically, and the receiver ants, one horizontal and one vertical, since the plane changes position, the one closest works the best.

I notice on both models you place the receivers longitudinally (antennas pointing nose to tail) in the tail area mounted receiver. and span wise for the nose area mounted receiver. Is this a must or can i do the complete opposite, spanwise on the rear receiver and lengthwise on the forward placed receiver?

A am trying to set up a long range FPV foamie (LRP F-1400), and I have the AR6210 receiver. I am thinking of putting the satellite spanwise and the main receiver in such a way that the antennae would be positioned vertically. Since I am going to be using vertical polarisation (rx antenna up), I am going to be ready for banking, but not diving, sinc I don't have a third satellite I could position lengthwise. By the way, the antennae on these receivers are dipole, one of them being ground the active element can work against. And it is more important to expose the active element better. The active element is the left antenna on the satellite, when viewing it from up front, but which antenna is the active element on the AR6210 itself? Thanks! :)

There is generally little if any cross compatibility between brands at this point. Spektrum radio gear only works with Spektrum Radio gear. Same with other brands.

Can someone clear an issue for me please! I want to know how is the compatibility between deferent brands of emitters , receivers, servos ,AC power regulators ,batteries, etc . What will work with what ? Do I choose one brand and stick with it ?or is possible to change from there to there?. Thank You

Do not understand why Futaba doesn't need all these remotes. It works just fine with only one receiver. Nevertheless where's a thumbs up for the nice tutorial.

All I want to know is how to get rid of the crappy 100mW limitation in europe. My superduper DX18 is totally unable to operate DSM2 receivers which would work perfectly on the DX7 and DM9 module. DX18 >>> 7feet during range test.

ok thats alot of work just to make sure your radio works. I mean 4 remote recievers holy crap that starts to become expensive just for a reciever. I traded in my jr radio for a few reasons, 1 of them due to this and the wonderful lockouts in a busy 2.4 enviroment. I grabed a hitec A9 will never go back i have the 7 channel single boda in my 34% extra 300 and never had any issues. I hear the dsmx is a good sysytem but at $100 a reciever compared to $60 for my hitec, as i will not use dsm.

Satellite receivers act in concert with the main receiver to make sure that a maximum amount of the broadcast signal from the transmitter is received, regardless of the plane's position or orientation.

Just getting back into rc planes and finding this new 2.4ghz radio systems that seem to be very problematic. With so much advancements in technologies would have expected to see more reliability placed into radio systems. Instead it seems like they have moved backwards.

Other brands of radios WILL NOT work in a full aluminum airplane. I build large all metal planes with lots of aluminum, copper AND steel fasteners,rivets not to mention ignition systems. I ONLY trust JR radios. Remote receivers are just what it is needed to ensure me absolute link between my TX and the airplane,,NOT a single glitch!!
