Blade helis have introduced huge numbers of people to the fun of flying RC helicopters. One of the most popular has been the ultra micro mSR single-rotor machine. Blade's new sub-micro 120 SR is almost double the size of the mSR, but the easy flying characteristics are very similar. Many people have had their first heli experience with the coaxial mCX which is by far the easiest heli to fly. They followed up their first experience with the single-rotor mSR and found that it has significantly more performance. The new 120 SR gives pilots another choice in their learning experience. It retains the excellent flight characteristics of the mSR, but, due to its larger size, it can also be flown outside in very moderate wind conditions adding another level of fun to this part of their RC hobby.
The Blade 120 SR is fully factory-assembled and test-flown when you remove it from the box. It has a unique rotor head design that provides the stability of a coaxial helicopter with the flight performance of a single-rotor heli. It also has a new 5-in-1 control unit with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSM2-compatible receiver, main motor ESCs, mixer, gyro and proportional servos. New technology is making RC models of this kind possible. Watch our video preview with Mark Padilla, Blade Product Developer and learn more about this amazing helicopter.
Specs:
Type: Sub-Micro Fixed-Pitch Single-Rotor Helicopter
Main Rotor Diameter: 12.5 in (318mm)
Weight: 3.75 oz (106 g)
Length: 12.5 in (318mm)

@HorizonRCdotCom - Thanks I have recently purchased the Blade 120SR & it is absolutley brilliant! It flies very much like my larger Blade 400 3D. The tail rotor (especially for a ETRM) keeps perfect control of the yaw. Extra batteries are definatly recommended. Happy flying!
@horizonhobby

@ssbbheli Yes, it does work. The new 120 does not require any servo reversing or mixes, uses the same setup as the mSR and mCX series helis.
@horizonhobby

@Clambercty The calmer the better quite honestly. This is not a beginner heli, it's more of the "next step" after you've been successful with something like the mCX2.

The Blade 120 SR RTF is $159.99 and the Blade 120 SR BNF is $129.99 on the Horizon Hobby website and participating retailers.
@horizonhobby

@ssbbheli If you take a look at the transmitter there's an oval shaped section almost right under the power switch. That's actually a cover that will pop out. Under there is a series of switches called dip switches. They control things like servo reversing and such. The position of those determine how the transmitter controls the heli. I am not sure if the S300's positions would be the same as the SR120, but the 120's manual may say something about it.

@dinkco45 The leaning is due to 2 things: 1) the tail rotor's center of lift being below the plane of the main rotor. It creates a slight torque about the longitudinal axis, which is the lean you see. 2) as with all helicopters with a torque-reacting tail boom, it will drift left or right depending on the direction of lift from the tail rotor, and it has to lean slightly to react to that.

Blade 120SR in Australia. The facts. This helicopter went on sale in Australia on Thursday August 5th. Two sample helis have toured the country for the last fortnight and have been displayed at a few LHS around the country. OMP

I would be interested to know the name of the shop that is claiming to have them in-stock even before we have them here in the USA.

@kangsterizer No these are all 2.4 DSM2 radios. There will be a BNF models for people who have a DSM2 radio
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 14 лет назад
@3255959 Basically I think you see the reason right there for the Bind N Fly concept. With DSM2 you fly all your models with one transmitter. And there are enough choices of different TX that you can a transmitter to fit your hobby from DX5e to JR 12X
@MarioIArguello
@MarioIArguello 14 лет назад
@Vincentd2002another thing to consider and this is totaly from a marketing point of view is the overall cost. Throw in 2 BL motros and required BL ESCs and you have boosted the product cost quite a bit! Being a manufacturer myself this plays a really important role and a decision has to be made. You have to draw the line somewhere where there is a good balance of product and cost. E-Flite is not cheap but the small heli lineup is great stuff! reason why I support them with MIA upgrades.
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 13 лет назад
@RCHELICOPTERSPORT roughly 6-10 minutes depending on throttle usage.

The Blade MQX transmitter is compatible with the 120SR but be sure to check/neutralize the trim settings as they may be different between the two machines.

@OGRMaster The most important thing to us is that someone gets the right product that they will have fun with. What good does it do to have someone go out and buy an, admittedly, more expensive heli like the CP, tear it up, get frustrated and leave the hobby?
@MarioIArguello
@MarioIArguello 14 лет назад
Great job guys! it reminds me a lot of the 2001 MIA House FLY 12 " rotor sub-micro Kit I designed and sold in limited quantities nearly 10 years ago. Designed with GWS equipment made it ideal weight-wise but Ni-Cads had a heavy weight impact on such. Looking Forward to the 120. I've had a ball with all your helis, the mSR in particular, for the awesome stability which it is also familiar to me and very similar with some of omy own early helicopter designs.

Thanks for introducing us to great helis Mark, I know I've had many hours of fun with the Blade MCX and MSR. Good luck in your future endeavors :-)
@MarioIArguello
@MarioIArguello 14 лет назад
@Vincentd2002 I think they are using a 150 DC motor on the main, not 180. I used 180 motors on the 2002 MIA Bumble Bee Sub-Micro which is a bit larger than the SR 120. You don't really need brushless motors on these lightweight helicopters. The corelesss ones and even brushed DC ones workk fine when the heli is designed properly. I've never burned a motor on any mCX or mSR and they have plenty power. See also my videos, some even fly with scale bodies. It's all about careful balance of things.

@begley09 Right, I was thinking the Blade SR, not the 120 SR. Sorry.

I apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered, is there anything we can do to help? We have not seen or heard of any issues regarding the Mini 8IGHT radio system as Losi has used that same radio in dozens of vehicles.

@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 13 лет назад
@AllUrUtubeRbelong2me I think the main reason is not on the video itself but the fact that there isn't a BNF Version.
@MarioIArguello
@MarioIArguello 14 лет назад
@Vincentd2002 regarding my 8 year BB it still flies fine with the stock 180 motor I used in it, and the direct drive N50 motor, as it did when I first made it. However BL motors take it to a different level!. There is quite a bit of challenge designing a product with simple stock components. Today anyone can put a BL motor on any model and have instant sucess ! Like I said we are so spoiled and I feel a bit ofended when people take the simpler models or older Golden technology for granted.

Why does this have so many dislikes? This heli looks amazing. I learned on the MCX and then got an MSr, which I can now fly like a pro. I have obstacle courses set up and all and outside I can fly this thing like crazy, even if it's windy. With the advanced swashplate and experience it's possible to fly in 10mph wind or so even with the MSR. I want this heli...it looks fuckin sweet.
@MarioIArguello
@MarioIArguello 14 лет назад
@Vincentd2002 absolutely, BL technology is more efficient but it is not a must, Walkera's lineup is an exception. Why? because they hare heavier helis overall and they require more brute power and head speed to lift. On the other hand E-Flite mCX and mSRs are super lightweight and do not require brute power and can be done just fine, as they have been done with coreless and DC motors. The great thing is that one can install BL motors on them easily. We are so spoiled by today's technology.
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 11 лет назад

@OMPMODELFLIGHT He should not be blocked. I believe in all only 3-4 people have ever been blocked and that was strictly due to language. @Sorrow1994 a 90 Degree Flybar would just be the perfect step between the mSR and a CP... coax>mSR> real 90 degree Fixed Pitch> real CP
@Sorrow1994
@Sorrow1994 13 лет назад
@Sorrow1994 in an addition to that, with a 90 Degree Flybar FP Heli you may won`t get bored as fast, because they are just a alittle bit harder to fly, but not as hard as for example CP Heli`s its just a little bit more Challenging! and not as Borig as the "stabilized Rotorhead"
@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 14 лет назад
@pieman12345678987654 It is about half way between the mSR and the SR. In the video there is one quick shot showing the mSR beside the 120. Take a look and see what you think.

@horizonhobby
@horizonhobby 14 лет назад
@OGRMaster I couldn't disagree with this more. The Blade CP is absolutely NOT for beginners. And while you may buy a few helis on the way to get to the Blade CP you will save money on totaled airframes, blades, head units, etc that will get torn up if you try to fly it without the proper experience.

@HorizonRCdotCom People can save money depending on their own patience. I totally agree that the Blade 120SR and Blade MSR are great helicopters for beginners with little to no patience. But a much bigger CP helicopter flown with the right attitude really doesn't mean a truckload of inevitable crashes. Especially when combined with a cheap (50$) simulator. A lot of bigger CP helicopters (450) are much more stable and will easily save you money when you go at it the right way.

This heli is fun. It isn't a good 1st heli, because it can get away from you quickly. Flight times are short, 5 mins. You must let it cool down in-between flights. Slow yaw will cause it to slip sideways. Not good for indoor flying, too fast. Great little park flyer. Must be flown in ZERO wind. Any wind at all will push it around hard. Perfect 2nd heli to progress your skills. Challenge is to throw it around, without crashing it. Teaches good reaction control skills. Fairly durable.

@newdeal1976 If you're flying outside and it is very cold (45F or less), then you're going to need to find a way to keep the battery warm while flying. Ensuring that it is warm before flying will help as well.

@OGRMaster Who are you ?!? I both have this heli, and the Blade 400 3D. both of them are a blast to fly.I`m 18 years old and I consider my self as an experienced pilot. but i`m having just as much fun with the Blade 120 SR as with the Blade 400. Getting right into a Blade CP or even an 400 would result in more money wasted on replasement parts. etc. I think that all of you beginners should listen to HorizonHobby. they want us to have the most fun of our hobby. take their advice. ;) Peace

@OGRMaster I also couldnt disagree with you more.I started out with a Blade CP (which I still have) and it is just to unstable for a newbee.So MY experience shows a collective pitch helicopters are NOT for beginners.Now most guys are suggesting to start out with a fixed pitch heli and a good simulator. Also E-flite does not make Blade CPs anymore.You can purchase a CP+ or CP Pro

@HorizonRCdotCom I've had my 120 sr for almost a week and I'm already sick of the bad TBE and self stabilizing properties. The thing that would make this an awesome training helicopter would be an option for a 90 degree flybar setup. Is there any chance of a kit for this in the future?
