Not all of our projects go right first time. Sometimes, not at all.
I've shown this ebay rescue relic 'warts and all'. The end result wasn't as initially planned, but still a worthwhile model to work on, and some valueable lessons learned

I always feel a good runner is worth keeping regardless of what it looks like.🤔😉

Yes a good effect. Try with one and two coats of hairspray. It'll give a different result

Very interesting project and thanks for delivering it honestly. I found the video fascinating in terms of the techniques you used and the results you obtained, but just not on my favourite class of loco !!! I was around in the 1980s when the 25s were withdrawn, and apart from dirt and faded paint they weren't in too bad condition. Your project though was really useful and thanks once again for delivering it

Thanks Phil. Sorry to desecrate the memory of your favourite loco :) Most of the techniques i use are intentionally over the top and extreme. Modellers can then choose their own level of rust and grime, Thanks for watching

We all get it wrong time to time, that's how we learn. There's some good ideas to take from mistakes and keep on working them until its nailed. The good thing about filming the process and uploading it will give you an opportunity to go back and watch back over it and see how to adjust a method or change a colour etc etc. I did just that whilst watching this video. The hairspray method has given me some ideas to use as a patchy faded effect.. swap out that grey 'primer' for a lighter shade of blue and use the same darker blues on top of the hairspray and bingo you've got a superb patchy faded blue to work from. I'm still sceptical about those oil brushes looking right for rust streaks, they're on my to try list at some point and I'm keen to see how they turn out. My list of things to try never ends lol. Keep them coming mistakes or not.

Exactly. Lots of the techniques that I use are adapted from military modellers. The oils look great as rust streaks when it’s done properly. It’s all a learning curve, but always fun.

@@BuntersYarda worthy book if you've not got it is the big weathering book by vallejo (can't remember it proper name) This is all aimed at military weathering and some of the effects are something else.. Worth a read. I'm not interested in military vehicles so I filter all my skills I've learnt into the railway side of the hobby and it seems to attract a bigger wow factor which is what drives me to keep killing models lol.

reminds me of a childhood train I think I once had... 45+ years ago now, although my memory is a bit vague/wrong sometimes? Anyhow looking forward to this vid :)

The weatherings pretty heavy, but I quite like it, gonna try the paint chip technique on one of the wagon kits I’m building!
@BuntersYard
@BuntersYard 3 года назад
Yes, heavier than i intended, but hopefully some of the techniques and processes will be useful

Great Video i have learnt lots from your videos thanks ,A problem i have is when i apply a thin coat of clear to seal in the powders i loose all the effects from the powders they just disappear its really frustrating can you help please Regards David
@BuntersYard
@BuntersYard 3 года назад
Yes this is a problem. Different 'sealers' (ie varnish, pigment fixers etc) will give different effects. If you use a spray can, the pressure will be too high and destroy most powder effects. I generally apply more weathering powder than i think i need in the final effect, and use a very light coat of varnish from the airbrush at low pressure. Once it's dried i'll give another coat of varnish. Sometimes i'll add extra powder in between coats
