Another loco from Peter. This Hornby R2121 Class 25 Diesel Locomotive seemed to run absolutely fine! But there was a good reason to take it apart and have a look.. www.buymeacoffee.com/00bill
This is a lovely model. I was very excited to get a blue one back in 1978 (?) when it came out. Such a smooth runner and having lights was a great bonus. I was really disappointed when the Hornby Western came out and didn't feature them.
I have dug my, possibly almost 40 year old model, out to use on the layout I am building for my grandsons. Well that's what the Chief Domestic Authority thinks! It is incredibly smooth. Thanks for this article, and all of the previous ones. Gives even total incompetents like me the confidence to try and resurrect some old stuff. Now, where is that Black 5?!!
Same here. I got the class 29 in 1980 then the class 25 in 1981 followed by the Hymek. The 29 ran great and still does, the 25 was always a poor runner and the Hymek was faulty so had to be returned (exchanged for Lima class 33). 1 out of 3 isn't great but such was Hornby in the 1980s.
Nice job Bill as usual, those locos are usually good runners and for some reason you can still pick them up quite cheaply they do offer good value for money.
Stay at home vacations available here Bill free of charge. Holiday on the Ayrshire Coast finish my layout and service all my locos while I run away to catch some rays.... Deal or no deal??? Great videos again keep em coming! Number 1 00 Fixer!
Did you know that it was designed to have a smoke unit? That is what the round hole is for in the top of the clear plastic inner part, at the un-powered end!
The body on that 25 looked immaculate, practically new, so I was rather alarmed when you started spraying the axles with contact cleaner only inches away from it! Seems to have survived though. What do you clean the brushes/springs with, and why not just use contact cleaner for them too?
This is the same problem that he said he had with his Deltic. Could it be that Peters track needs cleaning as well as any problems with the engine. The piece of plastic the chassis will not help either.
