I am a little relieved to hear about "coupler catching." Thought I was the only one. As I eased into OO some years ago, it would drive me bananas trying to figure out why things were derailing seemingly without provocation. It took a long time to discern that the hooks were dragging on the opposing buffers. Sometimes simply turning the unit around will help. Other times, I've added a dab of lube. That Class 25 and its rake is a treat.

Good morning Jeffrey glad you enjoyed seeing the class 25 run with it's train. I think Phantom derailments are just part of playing with the trains but can become quite frustrating, solving our problem for one model doesn't necessarily solve it for another it's not a perfect system but it's great fun. Thank you again for watching take care. Oscar

Only a less than two weeks till Christmas 2021, my old nostalgic mind zooms back to 1961 so 60 years ago I got the Triang saddle tank for Christmas. Steam was still running out of Kings Cross and even Mallard and Flying Scotsman were still in service. Now I'm 68 mum and dad gone, I wish I could go back, but that is stupid.

For the couple of older locos I converted to DCC I replaced the globes with LEDs to avoid the heat. Those old ringfield motors are a bit noisy but they actually work well on DCC.

I enjoyed this video a lot. The smooth power delivery from the new controller is very noticeable, the modern electronics must be producing a very clean output. Lovely models and good fun to watch the mail system despite the spectacular derailments. I got one of those blue mail coaches in a job lot but have never used it due to lack of lineside accessories. I actually used the clip fit bogies on something else! Hope the fair went well.

Morning Pauline great to hear enjoyed the video. I love this new controller, I'm unsure of electronics inside it and how they work but it does a beautiful job. I'm very much looking forward to using it with some of the older models on the older track types as time moves on. I think derailment are all part of playing with his older items the system as a whole is not perfect but it's great fun and very absorbing. I have one of the old Tri-ang Railways blood and custard coaches with a pair of those bogies on it. I picked up a pair of them up in a rummage box at a market stall for a £1 a few years ago, sadly the local market does not have a model railway stall anymore, I used to get quite a few good little bits and pieces there. Take care. Oscar

Thanks for sharing the problems you had with the ramps for the mail coach. I have been thinking about getting mine going having seen your previous video, but I think I will have to wait until I have levelled out the track in the station area before attempting that. Always enjoy watching your videos Oscar. Keep up the good work. Roy.

Good morning Roy thanks again for watching I think these items are great fun however it just becomes frustrating in the long run when you get random derailment even when not collecting mailbags so it seemed a more practical solution to take them out to avoid further damage. Even screwdown flat to the baseboard/track bed there is no getting away from the random accidents caused by the ramps across a wide range of models in my collection. I think others may have had different experiences with these track ramps potentially on more contemporary versions of the track they may sit a little lower? Definitely worth a fiddle if you have later track perhaps. Thank you again for watching and taking the time to comment its hugely appreciated take care. Oscar

The 25 remains one of my favourite Hornby models . Took over from the 31 or “Brush Type 2” in the range . It was very detailed for its time and still can mix it with Bachmann 24s and 37s . I got mine as soon as it came out summer 1977 . I think she was £9.95 .The only issues in early ones were that the bogies were not a proper fit on the models and used to drop down onto track and cause derailments . I think I sorted it with a light application of glue! Seems to have worked to this day . If running BR Blue she almost certainly appears on the railway .

I remember clearly looking in the shelves or "Rail Mail" in Glasgow, A great shop with shelves packed with Hornby, Lima and Mainline with some Wren. My Dad and i bought a Class 29 Diesel, and it was as you showed on the price list like the Class 25s priced reasonably. i still run it and it remains squeaky but reliable. By the way, it must have taken a lot of research to manage the editing, inserts and wording. Thank you.

I remember getting the class 25 BR blue for Christmas in 1977/8. I do remember they suffered with body leaning, and mine certainly did! It annoyed me a lot back in the day . I always wondered if Hornby ever sorted that problem out on later versions?

Good morning Mark great to hear you've got the class 25 just £6.99 back then. I have never visited the Arndale in Wandsworth but have negotiated the one-way system many times in the past, always a sense of achievement! It would have be a very interesting model with a smoke unit. No real plans for the next layout yet as you might expect! I've been preparing a little track when I have a little spare time, I have it in mind I would really like a return loop I love the ones Mr Snooze has on his railway the thought of turning a whole train is quit appealing. Afternoon Oscar, so enjoyable to see the Class25, one of my favourites third to the Class37 and Intercity 125… have the green variant with lights. Still runs so smooth for being such a dated model. So nice seeing the mail set on action, interesting re the ramps, into had issues with the ramps, worked with one set and not another. Have the BR, GWR and LMS sets, would love to have a layout large enough to have all running together. Such an enjoyable video again, love the cut shots, video editing is becoming second nature. All best and look forward to next weeks video, Marc

It's difficult to put it into words, but the locos' running just seems more "solid" with the Morley. Regarding the mail coach ramps, I had the same problem and fixed it by taking the ramps apart and then straightening out the bronze springs inside. It's a matter of trial and error to get this right because too much bend causes the problem you have and too little means that the ramp doesn't function.
@oscarpaisley

Good morning Roger I've been very pleased with the Morley controller, in use it feels very consistent. It's such a very different feel to any controller I've used before. Thank you again take care. Oscar

Hmm got me thinking now - the original TPO ramps on Standard Track were very high and fixed; Same on Series 3; then Super 4 had the sprung inserts. (I never got involved with later track types but I think it has a lower rail profile than the earlier ones). Maybe a short test track is needed with every type of rail / ramp and run lots of different rolling stock over it and try and measure the clearances. If you manage to solve this, then try adding the long water trough between the rails - used to derail everything when I had one!
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 года назад
Good morning Mike yes I've always wondered about the water troughs as an accessory the position is especially vulnerable. I don't think it's one size fits all with a male ramps especially with a collection spanning many years. The couplings do hang very low on some of these models adjusted correctly. The plastic ones moulded into the chassis seem to be especially low, in many cases only just clearing the rail heads. A number of models I have acquired I've found th striker on the coupling shortened to improve the situation. I think there is a lot more clearance available with the older track types and the older models. Thank you again for watching and taking the time to comment it's hugely appreciated. Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, As always a very enjoyable video and great shots of these lovely models running together. The 'mailbag' thing is very addictive, however I don't think Triang\Hornby gave much thought to people like us who compress something like 60 years of model railways into the present day. The focus I think would have been around the Christmas market each year. Having said all that I believe we are quite adept at overcoming most of these problems. I have the '77 catalogue and, as you say, some great images in there. I'm guessing the foreshortened photos are subject to the same 'stacking up' effect experienced with a telephoto lens, all good stuff and great therapy in these times. Keep up the good work, Gordon

A lovely video once again. Full of wonderful trains and memories for me. What a day we had at the TCS in Nov. 19. I also remember the floods that diverted and cancelled trains that I had planned to take and finally my last train being cancelled and replaced by a bus that took forever to deliver me to a location that I had not prepared for on a foggy night resulting in some anxious moments before I found my way to my hotel for the night. Good times. I hope we can do it again. As I often do I got my model of the day out while watching your video to make comparisons. It would appear that my Class 25 is the green R 079 and like yours, it is a lovely runner. I wonder if you could use your 3D printer to make a redesigned ramp for the post office coach, perhaps a slightly lower ramp would work. I shall have to try mine. I think I have at least a partial set for the System Six track and all of my track is the original half sleeper version. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Regards, David.

Good morning David Hope you're enjoying the beginning of the festive season. I'm hoping to have a very relaxing time over the next couple of weeks, I have quite a bit of time planned off from working. The weather really was awful that year I had wondered at the time if it was going to be possible to get down to Leicester with the wide spread effects of flooding. I have to say I've really enjoyed my visits to the Train Collectors Society Shows, not only getting the opportunity to see some amazing toy trains but met some great people and have terrific conversations. It would be great to meet up with you again at one in the future. Merry Christmas. Oscar
