Oscar Paisley's Video on Sunday the 16th. Feb. 2020 demonstrated why some Hornby locos lean. As soon as I saw that I went to work to fix my leaning Cl.25 and my Cl. 35. This video shows how I did it.
Hi Gareth. There is a much simpler way if you don't mind drilling a hole in the underframe. Just drill a small hole at the required pivot point and insert a self tapping screw. Be sure to use a small headed screw and adjust the level by slight turns on the screw. If I get another loco like this I'll be trying the screw method. Hope this makes sense. Cheers, David.
Thank you. I have since thought of an easier way that is adjustable, again without altering the original Hornby set up. I just need a loco to try it on. David.
Thank you Oscar, please let me know how it works for you. I think that if I were to do it again I would put a substantial block where I put the pin and then put a small self tapping screw in to form the pivot thus allowing fine adjustments to the height of the pivot. Regards, David.
Thank you Steven I'm so glad this has been well received. Do you have any of these locos, apparently Hornby built a Cl. 47 in the same way? Cheers, David.
@@trainsontuesday Just going through them now, most of mine are the poor man Lima version, which don't have that nasty pivot setup. I might do a quick vid and show you what I do have.
@@stevenpeaketrainsandstuff3682 Thanks Steven, a video of your collection would be great. By the way, I quite like my Lima stuff, some of it is better than the Hornby ones. David.
Thank you. My home is in western Canada and the bulk of my content reflects that but I spent my formative years in the UK and have a great affection for the British railway scene. I model both Canadian in HO scale and British in OO scale. Regards, David.
Excellent solution to the problem David. I am also in complete agreement with the idea of not physically modifying classic models, sometimes their warts are part of their character. Art...
Hi Dave, As I said the easiest fix would be a screw mounted where I put the sprue pin but it would involve drilling a hole which I try to avoid if possible. Cheers, David.
I got some later chassis frames without the pivot quite cheaply from a shop that was closing down as I don’t like drilling holes too just incase I mess it up ,off centre pivot mmm wonder why they done that ,great posting ,all the best
Hi, Thank you, I wasn't aware of a later chassis. I have thought of a simpler and more accurate way of doing this so if I get anymore they will be easy to fix. Take care, Regards, David.
Good morning Rob. I would love to know what Hornby were thinking when they put the pivot off center like that, but this simple little fix (about 20 minutes to do the first one) seems to correct it nicely. You and Michelle have a great weekend, spring is on it's way. Regards, David.
Hi Dave, I've never had the Hornby 47 but someone mentioned that loco in comments on Oscar's video. I'm sure this would work on that one too. Now as for your lean. I'll have to give that one some thought. Viagra came to mind but that's only a temporary solution. Umm, I wonder.........?
Wel, interesting. Ive returned a fair few locos in the past because of this lean. I do have a bit of curveball for u though.... the locos ive had that leant, never had that off centre pivot point... ever. Ive also tried to fix this problem before, and never come across that. If u can find a leaning loco, that doesnt hav an off centre pivot, and can stil fix that, then im all ears lol
Hi Matthew, It's really great to hear from you. If you can point me in the right direction with which models you have had problems with then I'd be happy to see what I can do. Cheers, David.
David Atkins really sorry David, i must have missed this reply. The loco in question at the mo is the Hornby Class 37. The chassis has a lot of body roll, and when running it will lean to a chosen side. The 37 i have leans left, very annoying. But i cant seem to remedy 🤷🏻♂️ if you would like some pics or maybe a vid i could email them to u? My email is Matthewsn@live.co.uk Cheers
