I did a search on ancestry and found out we are primarily from Scotland, England and Wales. Total surprise! About 70%. I’ve loved highland cows. every since I saw them at the alameda county fair and the San Joaquin county fair. (California) There would always be a man and his wife in a small pen under the trees with a couple of these cows. They were gorgeous! I fell in love at that moment. They were so small. I was blown away. ❤️

You wouldn't do that with a Holstein bull. If they are the least bit annoyed with you, they would stab you with their horns and stomp on what's left of you. They are like the bulls used for bull fighting, only 6' tall at the shoulders. No pets there
Coming from and living in North East Scotland and seeing these beautiful beasts regularly, how strange to be enjoying watching someone (who has an obvious care and affection for his animals ) from thousands of miles away. I mean that sincerely. As someone who lives on the edge of the Cairngorm mountain range, to be EDUCATED about our native cattle is indeed very humbling ( and fascinating). If you ever acquire a cow, please name her Lady Gordon. Lady Gordon raised the battalions of my local regiment ( now amalgamated 🤬) The Gordon Highlanders. An infantry regiment that has received more Victoria Cross awards than any other in the British Army, from Sevastopol ( the origins of the captured Russian cannon that were smelted down to cast the medals). Proud to be a Scot? Oh yes I am. My grandfather joined in 1914- 1919 ( includes his ‘occupation’ service) and was a driver of horses (Clydesdale). It’s reliably known that he was once threatened with a charge by a local police constable during a raid in @1942 , when he dismounted his cart and told the constable that “ if you don’t stop that whistle, I’ll stick it up your asre “ Apparently the whistle spooked the horses more than the bombs did 😂
When I had my cat & dog [they are in heaven now] they liked a rub under their chin! Your cattle & all animals like it & to be respectfull & kindly treat all animals.
Huh, . . now I'm curious about the horns. 99.9% positive they can "feel" with their horns because they're attached to their head / skull, but how sensitive are they? Can he feel you rubbing them? Is it a good sensation or a mere sense that they are being touched? I understand you don't have horns and can't tell me / us for sure how well they feel, but maybe you tested them for sensitivity? If anyone could tell me, thanks in advance!
The horns on a Highland are not solid, nor are they hollow... they are living tissue... they have a bone core surrounded by a keratin shell... full of blood vessels and tissue... so yes they can feel me rubbing them
And I rub them not so much because they enjoy it, but because if I someday need to grab them by the horn, I don’t want them freaking out because I’ve never done it before

I’ve had friends say the same thing... they also threatened to paint their hooves pink and ad frilly lace “anklets”..... and they haven’t been seen since 😏😁
