This is terrific. Herb West is the story that fared the worst from serialization, so not having to wade through the countless recaps at the beginning of each chapter help preserve the atmosphere and suspension of disbelief all the better. Y'all're great.
Heard "Dagon"..listened to "Pickman's Model" next... I think dramatic readings are ur best work honestly, really draws in the listener & puts u in the story. Ik u really put in a lot of work for these, I imagine it takes quite some time to get the characters voices & background sounds so perfect..u put ur all into it & it shows in ur work. Honestly guys great job!
This is a dramatic adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's "Herbert West-Reanimator". "HorrorBabble's REANIMATOR" will transport you to a claustrophobic train car in Central Europe, where you'll be forced to listen to the desperate tale of a fugitive from justice. As his shocking account of body snatching and defilement unfolds, you'll slowly come to understand the terrible nature of his crimes, and the crimes of his eccentric friend and former colleague, Herbert West. I enjoyed the twist at the end, although I'm annoyed by the question of "when did West do it?"This is a great reading, especially when you consider that the original prose story is considered one of the worst things Lovecraft ever wrote.
@@jamesadamsfl Nah, I've always thought his letter on the various flavors of ice-cream was one of the worst things Lovecraft ever wrote. Herbert West: Reanimator of one of Lovecraft's best "balls to the walls" stories IMHO even if it's not as nuanced as The Colour out of Space or The Whisperer in the Darkness.
Loved the ReAnimater movies from the 80's. So pleased that HorrorBabble has created such a fine production of HP's original work. H. West: ReAnimater, in its original glory through the HB lens. Love it! Thank you!
Here's to you old-timer! Im in my 40s now. We carry on, but the past seems to become brighter to me with time. The 80s with its hope and rapid technological acceleration, brands of entertainment and toy lines. I had just missed the 70s with its music but it was still on. There was a revival of that music in the 90s I enjoyed. Anything after 2000 was downhill. And I think it became especially visible post 2012. The shine was gone. And everything became worse and worse. Now the authors or the early 20th century are seeing a resurgence. Shows you that people are looking to the past.
Loved it! (Have you ever tried adding some stereo processing to the voice? Such as Haas effect(+- 1 ms delay on the left channel) It would make it even more mesmerizing I believe.
This is awesome. The little voice recorder narrations bring heaps of cool vibes to the reading. 10/10 man. Some of the best work ive seen. Love this channel
@@HorrorBabble Keep doing your thing. You guys are solid. Also please dont censor or avoid lovecrafts controversial writings, our history and great literature is being constantly white washed by upset and noisey people. Its healthy psychologically and socially to understand the uncomfortable. Again mate, i appreciate your work ❤💪💪💪
Reanimator was one of the stories that had a genuine grasp on me, it was ghoulish and this is aa wonderful adaptation, wonderful. Also "the things that came from winter Hill" was amazing!
Your accent in this features the broad 'a' of Wisconsin and/or the Northern Plains of America, and the flat affect of the Boston Irish, sans the unvoiced terminal 'r,' and the substituted terminal 'r' of that dialect. Quite remarkable.
Wonderful! Been so keen for this: I love your dramatic readings, as well as one of my favourite Lovecraft pieces! Gonna listen to this immediately at work 😎 Thanks once more, Ian
We put a 'package' together for our Patrons, which includes the script, behind-the-scenes images, etc. But it isn't something we'll be sharing publicly at present. Perhaps a future production will be accompanied by a proper 'making of'. Thanks for listening! Ian
Unbelievable… hooked on the story, love the organ music and found effects too, I may never eat pea and ham soup again while listening to vivid descriptions of putrescence … absolutely brilliant💀👍
Absolutely phenomenal! Thank you and your entire team. I like the "twists and turns" and how Sir Major Clappam-Lee seems to have gotten to West's friend as well!! I love the train scenes, and how the "scent" hinted to earlier was told, at the end, to be the slight scent of death. Excellent foreshadowing, Ian! You do an excellent job switching from an Englishman to an American are awesome. Keep it up and do not stop, you and your staff are amazing!!
I have to say i like this much more than the original story. The original got a little monotonous. (Edit)No matter how many times i listen to rhis ita always so great
My own personal theory is that Herbert West learned the secret of reanimation from reading the forbidden Necronomicon as a student in Miskatonic University.
Man the sound effects are so spot on I finished this video with the feeling like I’d just watched a movie!!! The combination of Lovecraft’s powerful use of deeply detailed imagery and descriptions of even the smallest pieces combined with your fantastic touches of sound effects, you always manage to bring Lovecraft’s stories to life like no other! I always really enjoy your dramatic adaptations, they’re just so perfect for boosting my imagination while listening ❤
Ooooh, I LOVE that little implication you added at 53:03. An excellent added twist, right in !ine with what Lovecraft himself might have added. Very well done!
You know this story would have had a different ending if these two numbskulls had considered _chaining_ their specimens down prior to reanimating them after their third or fourth attempt..
Your dramatic readings add so much life and really add to the stories, though there are not many I believe they are your absolute best videos, thank you horror babble. Though unlikely I hope you do more of these style videos, maybe even re-visit some older stories to add the extra dramatic touch.
I found this quote a bit fascinating and perplexing. “Age has more charity for these incomplete yet high-souled characters, whose worst real vice is timidity, and who are ultimately punished by general ridicule for their intellectual sins- sins like Ptolemaism, Calvinism, anti-Darwinism,anti-Nietzstheism, and every sort of Sabbatarianism, and sumptuary legislation”. Was wondering if anyone knew what HP Lovecraft meant by this quote?
There isn't many horror stories I know of - currently watching playtrough of "Amnesia: The Bunker" which is good example of such a tale - so it's good to hear such a story written by Lovecraft himself!
A marvellous work of art. Well done guys. I'll check out Patreon this Tuesday. I've had a lot keeping me busy, raising baby parrots and a new puppy lol
I'm making a kingdom based off medieval England, would love help naming it, have trouble coming up with name, love you naming it horror babble, Ian you and team make it possible for me to sleep at night and fill my stories with new ideas and content thank you so much for helping me, I just would love some help though on a name for this kingdom in dnd, writing and reading is super fun now thank you.
So wait!? Was the narrator of the story Daniel, at some point killed or died from some complications and the reanimated corpse of the medical general brought him back to tell this story to the main character? Is that what happened? Cause their was red flags that this was the case, cause he mentioned how Daniel was very pale and thin and he also noticed a stench over the scent of his own coffee. I just don't get it, but this is very good. Keep it up Horror Babble.
That was very good, I had listened to an official version before this and I enjoyed this much better, the stories flaw imo is that it repeats itself allot but here I barely noticed and found it more enjoyable, thank you , love the art to
