That is great! Hard to hear you when I have to turn it down for loud wind.

You could invest in a camcorder. They've come a long way. Also, look for an external mic jack - that way you could put an external mic and use a big fuzzy thing to block the wind!

Steve , you had already told us that you will be investing in some new equipment,& had apologized for the wind noise , YET, so many people continue to complain, belly ache about the sound. I appreciate you so much & watched the whole video, sound, or no, why? Their talking about two different things, how it responds while riding it and how it is handling it while on the ground.

I now watch these transformations in horse and rider with nostalgia for I spent the first half of my life riding as much as I possibly could. At age 14, I found myself the proud owner of a neglected swaybacked Thoroughbred. By then I instinctively did a lot of what Steve talks about. That dear horse looked after me as much as I looked after him. At 16, I was a trail guide with 40 horses. And such became my relationship to all horses and animals in general. We got along fine. Personalities and all. How wonderful it is to relate to other species with mutual respect and indeed LOVE.

I have a well built gypsy cob she only has front shoes on and we go all over. My farrier has always said she has great Hardy back feet therefore no need to put back shoes on and she has never been sore or lame but you mentioned something about only having front shoes on in this video. She is heavy on the front but I was always told its due to her been a cart horse in the past. Please would you give me your input on this. I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you 😊

He knows some of the things he is being asked to do, such as simply walking forward. But he is indeed being stubborn and refusing to do what he is asked, simply because he does not see his owner as a leader, does not respect her and knows he can get away with things by simply stopping and refusing to move forward. Once he sees her as a leader and respects her, then he will start trying and doing the things that are asked of him or that he is being taught. Only then will he start trying.

@@kaylahanson8853 Yes he sure is being persistent at trying to get his message across. He is trying very hard to communicate in his way and can't work out why the two legged ones don't hear him. Now he is so frustrated he is biting to get his point across or refusing to move. And he is such a big boy but he doesn't understand his strength. He is simply standing still. Seems to me he doesn't want to be in the stables, he wants to be in the paddock. He doesn't feel the bad weather and he has more room to move around out there. He needs to move. I was taught a very important lesson during my natural horsemanship journey. The first part was undemanding time to extablish leadership and the second part was remove the halter and all you have left is the truth. When you get both of those right, you've got inside your horse's head. The rest is easy or cream whichever way you look at it.

I agree. Either a lavalier or a shotgun (directional) mic with a wind shield, but it seems like a Bluetooth lavalier mic - necklace or clip - would be the cheaper, easier option. You can pick them up for $30-$60 on Amazon. In fact, I think you can get lavaliers with wind muffs. If you're worried about a horse knocking it, I'd worry more about my breastbone, but insure it... If you go the shotgun mic route, I'd get a harness for it too so your wife can brace it against her body. They're not that heavy, but they can get to FEELING heavy, fast, if you're trying to just hold them out. This would improve the sound quality a lot. You could also narrate as you're moving around, even if you don't want to do that while you're working with a horse. (The cheapest option is to try cupping your hand around the mic on your phone - without covering it - but that's hard to keep up.) Also, I don't know what kind of phone or camera you're using, but a very good smartphone or camera can really make a difference. I notice that you lose focus kind of frequently. This is partly a flaw in smartphones - to oversimplify, you don't have enough room in a phone for great focal length and depth of field (the range of what's in focus.) Most smartphones have a fixed aperture (lens opening) of 1.8. Some have 2.2 apertures, which is a little smaller and might be better in bright light, but you need to get dark barn/stall areas too, which might be negatively impacted. You might try setting the ISO higher, to 400 or more, to see if that improves focus. (You would at least be better able to avoid losing focus due to movement.) I learned photography in the Jurassic age prior to digital, so I'm only beginning to understand how pixel size/number affects depth of field. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me about pixels could advise you there. I won't pretend I know enough to tell anyone anything about it. You COULD try a phone with a 2.2 aperture to see how it looks, but I'm betting that wouldn't change much. What I do know is that the better the lens quality, the better the image, so definitely use the best you can afford. Zeiss, Leica, and Nikon are all good, and I think they're all making lenses for some smartphones, so you could try one with one of those sorts of lenses. I really appreciate your videos, and your horsemanship. I work in equine-assisted learning, and a lot of our interactions are ground-based, so I especially value the fact that so many of your videos address ground manners. Thanks for what you do!

I've begged for this too. The sound is terrible on every video. I won't watch anymore. Far too annoying, and something any halfway-accomplished RU-vidr easily eliminates with one of those furry microphones.
