What's also interesting is in railroading a part of a rail switch in the center where the rails meet and has the same triangular shape is also called the Frog.
Thank you so much for these videos. I am from South Africa and I have not been exposed to this before so this really interesting for me. I would like to say that there is 100% no need for you to apologise for breathing. People should not be mentioning it. We all need to breathe so honestly it does not bother anyone at all.
i don’t even know this guy, but just from his videos and voiceovers and how much he shows he cares anyone can see what a good person this guy is. these videos are so calming to me
I don’t really care about horses and even less about their shoes, but you communicate yourself in a very clear, concise, and accessible way. Great stuff, learned a lot lol.
It's called a "frog" because it comes from the German word "frosch" which not only means the animal, but also where two paths come together into a V shape. Train tracks also have a V shaped "frog" where two tracks intersect.
Sir breathe however you need to breathe. I promise you 98% of the people that are watching this, me included, breathe hard going up a flight of stairs. None of us have room to talk about your breathing lmao.
The guy who does air squats, hunched over while hammering stuff: I could probably be in much better shape. Me, laying in bed because my back hurts from sitting at the computer for 8 hours everyday in an air-conditioned office: yeah, you probably could be. jokes. love your channel!
These videos brought me back to my childhood. My grandpa did this as his livelihood in his later stages in life as well as horse training. I used to spend my summers and winter breaks with him.
I have no idea why these videos showed up on my feed but I'm so glad they did. I have 0 knowledge and experience regarding horses yet somehow I'm very interested in this! The clipping, filing, and scraping are all insanely satisfying.
Leah Margaret Chon-Lopez I kid you not the same exact thing happened to me! And I feel the same freaking way! 😂 That’s so weird! I have experience petting horses and talking to them (because I’m a weirdo) but that’s about the extent of it! Maybe this guy in the Illuminati and this is all one big conspiracy! 🤣🤣🤣 jk jk!
@@norgepalm7315 it is quite impressive tho? I'm sure some might not find it impressive but for an average person, it is. You must be pretty fit so thats good on you bro
@@norgepalm7315 hey bro. I'm a pretty ripped guy. I work on my core hard. Holding that squat is one thing but you underestimate the amount of force he is using with his arms. Not easy work bro.
Wow people will complain just to complain, never noticed the breathing , guess because it's a NATURAL THING we humans do, ESPECIALLY while we work. You didnt uave to apologize for their rude comments, but then again you are a gentleman. On a happy note, GREAT JOB , thanks for the great videos, watching from Nevada🤗
@@wesleysantana2238 ticks me off when people just have to leave stupid negative comments because they cant think of anything else to comment, hope that makes sense. I'm so over the keyboard warrior trolls for sure
The amount of skill it takes to make this look easy is what is so impressive. Really, it's an artform. Pretty dang cool to see a skilled craftsman at work!
I love how your videos have no irritating background music, just the sounds of the trimming and shoeing. And you take care of the horse so carefully as well, amazing work!
Something I really appreciate too. No need for music that is bound to irritate someone. If people really want music they can play something on their own time.
Right, for the idiot that asked him about his breathing and couldn't see that he's exerting himself which is why his breathing is a bit labored. Common sense is lacking in this world. Loved your comment btw.😍
Dear S&S -My name is Koa. I am 8 years old. My parents let me write is comment. My first question is, when you lift the horses feet up are they heavy. Last one is that I wanna be like you when I grow up to shoe horses. Thank you and hope you right back.
hi Koa, it depends some lift it for me and others are really heavy! I am honored. maybe if you found a farrier near you that would let you ride with him to work you could start learning
I used to watch my uncle shoe his horses. LOTS of grunting, groaning, sighing and cussing is what came out of him. This guy BREATHES and someone comments. OK.
Deb H I can’t tell if that was supposed to be negative so if it was then shut the hell up. You said you watched your uncle do it, so u yourself didn’t put pain In to it. Stay out of it
Though I never done this work but I have taken care of a few horses before. Just bathing and brushing and man! They could weigh up to 800-1000kgs. I can't imagine to support a horse on 1 leg either. Maybe because I weight 52kg and have a small build but still!
Do the horses feel pain or uncomfortable with nails going into their foot padding? Ik its not like going into their flesh but it seems like it'd be uncomfortable still kinda like a pebble in your shoe
@@GT-od5wu It doesn’t hurt. Think of it like the tip of your fingernail, you can’t feel it when you cut it which is the same as nails going into the horse’s hoof.
i think it's very admirable to be a farrier. a horse's feet are its life, and taking care of them properly can be a demanding job. you're doing great work, man.
Really treasuring these snippets of farm and country while sticking out the quarantine in the Bronx. These animals are so lucky to have you, you clearly care a lot! Keep up your great work, good luck with vet school! And you keep on breathing as you need to; I'd love to see some of those comment-ers hold up a horse and run a portable blacksmithery!
y’all better leave this man alone about his breathing. he’s just tryna do his job and y’all got him saying he could be in better shape. smh. i didn’t even notice the breathing :( thank you for making these videos! they’re very interesting and relaxing to me :)
I did farrier work for 20 yrs. mostly draft shoeing...your breathing like that says to me you are in shape...man I used to huff and puff you wouldn’t believe. Terrific job, it is hard work, but also satisfying.
Mate, I'm in pretty good shape and I definitely breath like that when just cleaning the hooves of the ardenner I ride haha! Totally normal. I bet the people who commented about that don't have much experience with horses :)
I too take riding lessons and it can take a lot of hard work when trying to lift up this 1,500 lbs animal's hoof. Especially when you are only 10 like me.
I’m honestly dying with the corgi showing up on the horse farm. I know they used to be working dogs but I just picture the queen with her whole herd now
Oh, they still work. In fact, if you don't find jobs for them to do, they'll come up with jobs to give themselves!.....and sometimes, they are not good jobs. 😣Corgis are definitely small but tough, and they'll be quick to remind you that only their legs are little. Lol Seeing that one made me miss my buddy so much...
As the daughter of a mother who’s well known for being bad with hammers (hitting fingers, missing nails) the shaping of the shoe scares me. Every time you go hammering down next to your bare hand I can’t help but to tense up and hold my breath. 😂😂
Same here, Anna. I'm also very adept at burning myself, so while watching these videos I'm always like: yup and right areound here is where I'd burn myself and then I see him hammering the shoe and I'm like and right there is where I'd hit a finger/hand. 😂
You hit yourself every now and then but you learn pretty quick after a few blunders how to not get yourself. :) And unless you really burn yourself you don't notice the metal scale so much. I am a bit of a butterfinger and I've dropped many shoes on my shoe and lit my boot on fire. HAHA
It's more like a giant toenail. All the stuff he's cutting off is the same material our nails are made of, and causes the same amount of pain when you cut it off. None.

When I used to ride horses; I remember a farrier let me file and put a nail in. I completely understand the breathing factor, it is hard work... I barely did 5 minutes and I sounded like I just ran a marathon. I can't even imagine not breathing during a 13 minute squat. Either way, I love the videos and keep it up. 👏🏼
Dude, I think it’s crazy that people find your breathing annoying..tbh it’s kinda soothing and I love your videos and on an unrelated note RU-vid recommendations be hitting home with your channel. I don’t know why it’s so soothing watching your channel but I hope it grows because it shows just how passionate you are with working on horses. Keep up the great work!
I really like how you explain everything. I know nothing about horses and its nice to hear someone explain what their doing in a basic way to help people understand whats happening
I admire people like this farrier! This is a real skill because you can't verbally communicate with your patient! I'm thankful for all the animals you have serviced and made their lives soooo less painful!
every time i watch one of these videos im reminded of how much I dont know about the world. i could spent a lifetime just learning about hoof-health and maintenance
i’m so thankful for good farriers like you and our own. people who really care about what they’re doing with the horses and care about their comfort. people like this are respected in my book. i also respect our farrier because it’s a back breaking job when he comes to put sliders on all 11 horses.
That's amazing that you are continuing to study! You already have knowledge and what I presume is a stable job, but you want to know more and that speaks volumes about the man you are, and also your love for animals!
When you were talking about the fluid buildup in the abscess hoof I had a flashback to when I slammed my finger in a dicer. Had a nasty cut in the middle of the nail and I'd have to press down on half of it to let the blood drain out else it'd get real painful. Can't even imagine how much that'd hurt on something you walk on everyday. I'm sure that horse is much happier now, keep up the good work.
I got nothing but praise for someone who takes such good care of horses and how gentle you are with them. Hard work will make you breath heavy and I have no problem with that. it's hard work. Thanks again and all the best at vet school.
May the 4th be with you good sir and everyone. Sir I would like to apologize for those people asking you those dumb disrespectful questions. Keep on grinding to become a vet. It use to be my dream also but I'm headed the MD route now. Good luck, don't give up and endeavors. 👍
If people are truly interested and concerned,i dont feel any questions are dumb or disrespectful....Its how people learn..Dumb disrespectful and ignorant comments, are another thing entirely..We cant forget, that while things like this are common place in our world,,They are not to most these days..Ive had people actually ask me,,"People still do that today"???..I generally tell em,,Well,,ive never seen one put em on themselves..
@@TightwadTodd It's common sense literally. Saying his heavy breathing is because maybe he's a smoker is disrespectful and dumb. You don't assume things because you haven't been in that person's shoes.
@@Loveduhmusic I guess,If we are actually, going to turn this into a debate,,LOL...I believe he said People Mentioned he was a smoker,,Therefore i list that under the "Comment "clause of my statement and stand by what i said....
tbh he's the one person on RU-vid videos that I don't mind hearing breathing. idk if it's because i get that his job is hard work but tbh I don't pay any mind to it and it's low-key soothing
This is a channel with high quality. He seems to be a man that loves and cares about horses but above all he helps them. As much as this man shows love about horses , let's also show him some love for the hard work he's doing for years . Come on this channel needs some love too❤️😁 Greetings from Hellas ^O^
I’m out of breath just watching this, thank you so much for caring for these animals and putting in so much work to make them comfortable! Anyone complaining about you breathing when you’re doing intense physical labor is a Fool
The hoof pad is such a good idea! I would have never thought there was anything like that if not for your videos! It was also really neat to see the process of shaping the shoe to the horse's foot! Thank you for sharing!
Rightt?? I just stumbled across tgis video and i never really thought about it but this is something horses need to get done and so cool that someone is showing the actual hard work
My dad was a journeyman farrier and one of the best in our area for 20 years. This video brings back a lot of fond memories of going to work with him and watching him shoe horses, Good work!
Man looks just like a brand new pair of boots when your done lol, nice work. I don’t know how I found your videos, and don’t know anything about horses but looks like you do good quality work, keep it up 👍✌️
It makes me SO happy that this content blew up. I’ve always thought farriery is so interesting. This guy definitely deserves the attention. -pre vet student from LA, California ☺️
I didn’t even notice the breathing. People find anything to complain about. Enjoy the videos man, know it’s tough with vet school but the effort is commendable. Also I think you mentioned you go to WVU, TTU grad hère and enjoying your vids haha
When you hammer nails in do you just try to line them up woth the old holes or do the old holes heal and close over time? Btw im loving the videos theres just something very satisfying watching these horses hooves being cleaned.
I know this sounds weird but your breathing is actually calming. I work with horses all day. I don’t do their shoes but I do the saddling and grooming and the stall cleaning. It’s hard work. you do such an amazing job. I love watching these informative videos! Keep rocking!
Sheldon: "Imagine holding a squat for 13 minutes. That is how the horseshoer do." Me, who can't hold a squat for 15 secs: "Well damn, this dude probably has some nice glutes. 👀👌"
Chara Dreemurr well imagine your horse wants to yank their foot out, topple over your chair. It’s just not practical when working with these large animals, you gotta be on your feet and ready to act.
Hi Sheldon. I can honestly say I don't know much about horses, except how to ride them. Watching your videos has taught me quite a bit about the care and maintenance that goes into owning a horse. Kudos to you, for showing and teaching all of us what it entails to become a quality farrier!!!
Love how you explain and love how you took care not to hurt , you get my sub, I find these videos so amazing and relaxing . Thank you for keeping one of the oldest jobs in history going .
Lol people will complain about ANYTHING I guess 😂 ridiculous. I love your videos, and it is abundantly clear that you care a lot about these horses. Good luck with vet school!
Someone else may have said this: the hollow in the top of a brick is also called a ‘frog’. Early bricks often had a rounded indent made by a lump built into the wooden former which looked a little like a crouching frog. The hoof frog, wide at the base and tapering, looks a bit like a frog’s back too.
Oh my God are people seriously complaining about the breathing?? Lmao y'all need to chill, this guy is doing enough exercise in one day for all of us in a month of quarantine
He seems like such a sweet and humble man. Trying to do is best for the the horse. Always consulting with a vet to make sure what's best. Good work ethic making videos and going to vet school. I'm impressed. I think its unfortunate that anyone has to justify breathing. Picking a horses feet that like to lean on you isn't easy. People don't realize how hard that work is. Keep up the good work sir. Don't feel like you need to justify your actions to people that have no idea about your work or horses. Your videos are relaxing and educational. I enjoy them greatly.
Wow people hate them self so much they have to make sure to put others down im glad to hear ur breathing. Im new just stared watchin ur videos today Dont let no one put u down great guy
Sounds you like what you're doing. As a kid, glad I had the opportunity to watch a guy shoe one of my Granddad's horses.....the fella was probably in his 60s and had a good sweat going. Old skool workout....just the job itself. God bless 🙌🙏and please be safe
@@Blazequine The English word "seahorse" translates into Latin as "hippocampus". The Latin word "hippocampus" translates into English as "seahorse". There is nothing in English called a "water horse".
Don’t apologize for your breathing during YOUR videos. Whoever complains about that is a Karen. You do amazing work and I’m honored to be able to watch the complexities of this old art/tradition. God bless brother 👊🏼
Oh wow, I can tell it's hard work! My back, thigh muscles and knees are hurting just watching you. No wonder you're breathing hard. Thanks for filming and sharing these videos. I'm really enjoying them.
