Have had horses my entire life, 40 + years now. You NEVER stop learning, EVER. I've seen a lot of trainers who think they're great, but never one who really is great. When I say that Steve is probably one of the Greatest Horseman Alive , I truly mean it..
my horse had this issue and it was easily resolved exactly this way-- she now waits 4 feet away until i give her the go ahead to go to her bowl of mash :) wonderful beach shots so much fun!
I bought a very food-aggressive 3 year old mare from a lady who said she was "dangerous.". It took only a few days of ground work and insisting on manners to get her over it and now she is a top short stirrup pony said by her owners to be the best pony they have ever had for beginners. She was forced to be aggressive because she was in a stall with an older, larger mare, and her original owner did nothing to address the problem except run after she put the feed in!
Lovely Connemara (well I would say that, being a proud owner of my Connie). Huge change in his attitude. I think Charlotte's humour and chattiness makes everyone feel at ease including the horses!
Steve & Tania Young! I never would have thought, 70 years ago, that I would be able to watch videos like this! My life-long Love has always Horses. Y'all are so sweet with the horses & each other. I love you both very much.
I get so much out of these episodes. I notice the foilage, the greenery, and it is so similar to Washington what we have growing, our gardens, and so forth!! Learn so much and I don't have a horse. KNow people who do.
Love this one so much. The client completely understands what she needs to do, the horse understands what's going on, and the horses are BEAUTIFUL and so well-cared-for. Things have just gone beautifully.
Brilliant! What a difference a little bit of groundwork does, for the mentality of a horse! If only this type of horsemanship were taught right at the very beginning of an encounter with all human/horse interactions. It’s not complicated yet it seems we make things such, by skipping this very important step. I was never taught any of this when I was first introduced to horses …. not one bit of it ... but I see it’s like the ABC’s of horsemanship. It’s really no different than reading and writing … what are we first taught … the basics … learning the alphabet! Can’t read or write without knowing our ABC’s anymore than one can handle a horse with quality and grace, without first having done the basics to such groundwork. Steve I’d say you did everything in less than five minutes to effectively change this horse’s attitude and behaviours. It’s obvious nobody’s ever been a leader to him, which I assume is all horses ever look for and desire … proper leadership. He wasn’t a mean horse after all! Time and time again you show us the simplest step to creating a safe, respectful environment where we can interact with quality and grace. I so love watching your VLOG’s, as it’s ALWAYS a happy ending when you come to the rescue! Happy Trails! 🙏🙌❤️🇨🇦🐎🐴
Steve made me laugh.... No food! and She was shocked, like the horse would starve it's self..... lol.... I see people with even dogs give food and or treats to them, even when they do not do whats asked. Even if they growl. I'm 100% with Steve do NOT reward that behavior. Steve is right we teach these furry friends how to respect our space and in turn they get our respect. it goes both ways and ya don't have to be cruel about it.
I didn't know too much about horses, but I saw Steve's groundwork and wondered why everyone doesn't do this. I also saw regenerative agriculture practices and soil health principles and wondered why everyone doesn't do this. Education is so very important.❤
Totally Agree with you about both horses and soil health,,,,Education is incredibly important, and its an ongoing process,,, Sadly Schools let our young people down, teaching only to pass exams, ~do as we are told,,and be a good uncomplaining worker,,,Making other people rich!!
I never get tired of watching you patiently do the ground work - that helps change the behavior of the horses - no matter what their problems are! When my horse was alive, I loved doing ground work with her - but I wish I would have known all the different things you do. I had her for 16 years - she was a good girl, and respectful - but she would have been amazing if I had known how to teach her. Thank you for all you do to teach the owners and change their horses, Bless you.
He's one of the prettiest chocolate's I've ever seen! Brillant Steve! I knew the horse whisperer would set him straight on the right path! Attitude, temperament is soo essential! ❤🐎❤️ 👏👏👏👏👏👏💯%
Great video. Loved the step by step training to be one with your horse and gain the respect due. Thanks again for all you do for people that love their horses and ponies.
What a handsome boy, Olie and Beautiful Emma! I had this feeling while I was watching yet another brilliant video...Emma has been bitten by the Steve Young Traning bug. I could just feel, she really gets it. Well done!
I've been having progressively worsening food aggression issues with my 7 year old, 10 hand pony mare that I've owned for a year. I've been watching so many videos trying to find a way to correct the problem and this is by far is the most useful one I've come across. Thank you!
Thanks so much for showing this and for the owner to agree to be filmed, everyone will be safer including their children around this lovely horse. I had a thoroughbred ex racehorse who was gelded late (around 7) and he was very feed aggressive. I had a number of near misses being kicked and was very lucky. You are so right about it can progress and it can sometimes be very sudden thanks again you are making all horses and owners life safer with what you teach ❤
Well done Emma, you got the respect you deserve from your horse,Steve is amazing we all know that,i think its because he recognises not only the horses way of thinking but the human aspect as well and has the skills to identify them and bring them together so both horse and owner complement and understand each other to achieve just about anything. Thanks to Charlotte for her patience and kind humour as always.Good video, thanks.x
I wish you and Dan a fantastic time on your Motor Cycle adventure. Your work with the horses is so intense and cerebral and concentrated that I feel for you two to take time off is essential. You will return home fully charged with new energy - ready to help more horses which are suffering from wrong training.
What a change in the horse! Really highlights the importance of groundwork. On a lighter note Charlotte was soooo funny with the cows and the various “voice overs” she did for the various horses…made me laugh 😂. Have fun on your break!
This is terrific stuff! I living in the middle of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and always loved horses. Never understood 'em but, thanks to your many informative videos, I am learning a great deal! Wonderful share! Keep 'em coming!
Have fun at your well deserved little vacation ! That was such a great video. Just shows that rude behavior of your horse isn’t necessarily a deal breaker. What appeared to be such a deep seated -in grained habit of pinning of the ears DIDNT take that much training to eliminate. Dont give up on your horse too quickly. Just call STEVE ! 😂🐴
As usual an immensely important video when it comes to safety with horses who starts to behave dangerously. On another note: I love that Steve and Dan can take off on their bikes to have some fun together and meet likemindeed bikers. It's so very important to "charge" up in life with what really "turns you on". I wish you the best of times.
Hi 👋 Steve, Tanya, Charlotte from Florida panhandle USA. I love this video and how fast that horse changed its way of thinking. And how quickly Emma processed and took on what she needed to to be the alpha in her horse's life. And I love that that little girl's pony can run like the wind.! I've never seen a pony outrun a full-grown horse before. It was a joy to watch.! Have a great time Steve and Dan, on your Isle of Man trip with the bikes. Have a wonderful time; and hopefully when you get back we'll be able to see some videos of your trip.
YES!! Was great to see this owner working things through! JUST like horses, humans should & NEED to understand & use expected GOOD ground manners before or along with any riding! Like we teach toddlers hitting or threaten others is not acceptable as early as possible... With quality & grace vs just being bigger & meaner. To me a horse has to be safe & pleasant to LIVE WITH FIRST... more important than riding! 🤷♀Think about it... Humans are around them & interacting with them much more time on the ground (feeding, grooming, leading & all!) than in the saddle. We watch & re-watch Steve but ALSO can learn even more by watching & imagining ourselves in the owners shoes. Confused, muddling before our mind & bodies "get it". I imagine it's also easier for Steve to focus in the moment on instructing to the situation, horse & human. I get a lot out of imagining myself in the moment, forever refining reading, communication & timing! Thanks to you all for all you are doing to spread this clearer calmer approach!!
Steve your an incredible horseman! You are so clear, it’s easy for the horses to understand what you want. I’m understanding more too❣️Thanks for sharing 😊
Im in Awe of your Patience with the Humans!! Of course not these good peoples, but I have been watching, and learning here, and agree almost 100% with your kind, disciplined training methods!! Discipline and Punishment are Two Very Different Things Altogether, the Three Second rule is Perfect, Smiling rather than losing your Temper is Genius,,,,I will Try this with the Human Adults I have to deal with!! Children and Animals I cannot get Angry with,,, But, the human adults,,,a Different matter,,, ~Especially when an animal Suffers due to Ego,,Status,,and the humans Being Unwilling to Accept Advice,,, Sticking to Traditional Breaking when its Obviously Not Effective nor Acceptable!! .....Aaaaargghhh!! These are good peoples and this horse is very willing to learn. Ground-Work and good handling really set up a horse to succeed!! Horses Learn from Every Interaction,, either Good or Bad.....
I just love watching you Steve. You explain things so well. I do ground work training with horses and love it more than riding. The connection it creates with the horse is spectacular
I don't know much about horses, but if that is a radio going on in the background, I think they need to turn that thing off!! That is probably driving him crazy.
I had heard once that easy listening music is suppose to keep animals calm?!?! When I had a puppy/dog I would play classical Christian music...never had anything chewed torn up or accidents....could of been the breed of dogs I had??? I also tried it with cats/kittens and it worked....something to ask Stevie.....Does the type of music horses hear affect them??????
I worked with my horse on both sides...would mount, lead on both sides...the saddle and bridal...could not do that...but...i rode mine bareback a lot so...i would lead, mount ant dismount on both sides...even with the saddle...
HOW IN THE WORLD can she know anything about Steve’s training yet have the horse NOT STOP when she does and not back up the way she does! Another bobble head! Yea, yea, yea she says.
