In this video, I discuss horse riding positions tips for your Pelvis. This is the first part of my rider position series. I created this to help you avoid the same frustration I faced as a beginner looking for ways to improve my rider position.
In Part 1 I go over the pelvis, which is important in that it helps secures you in the seat and forms the base to correct rider position. In this, I discuss some of the muscle groups involved, common mistakes, and what correct Pelvis position looks like. Also discussed are some stretches & exercises you can do to help improve this. Whether you are a beginner or advanced in your riding, these tips should help get you started towards finding a great Pelvis position :)
Let me know how this works out!
Stay tuned for Part 2, 3, & 4. Lots more information :)

Thank you! I have a weak core and terrible seating posture, and watching your videos and how you've managed to gently coax the horse into movement with slight changes to your posture has inspired me to start working on this (even at home as I'm typing this)

Yoga helped me immensely with my position, I do lots of hip openers and ab stuff, a 20 minute yoga video focused on the core can do more than a million situps, and it isn't nearly as tedious, haha! Downward dog is great for heel flexion, as well, and toss in a little pilates and it will help so much, especially if you are just starting- I started to progress almost exponentially once I started doing yoga- it is worth a shot, it certainly won't hurt anything! I can't wait to try your stretch and exercise videos, I love seeing what works for other equestrians!

Hi 😊 there are a couple things you can try. the first is having a professional saddle fitter check that your saddle is a good fit for you. The other thing you can try is putting a gel seat cover on your saddle 🐴
@kmiklaszewski

@Jenna you could be riding in a saddle that is better fit for the male riders pelvis. It happens way more often than you would think. It also causes loss of the writer position issues when a rider doesn’t know they’re not in the correct fitting saddle. Here is a video that might be able to help you out if your seat bones hurt because of a saddle that is better suited for a male pelvis. You can also find so many more videos on this RU-vid channel to help you figure out if your saddle fit you correctly in that area and if it is causing you pain. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wkOtaOJSQKk.html

I just had my first lesson today and i felt so embarrassed my instructor kept having to correct my posture but she was super nice. But i wont lie i was raised a perfectionist. Some old habits die hard. But honestly i was scared. I never noticed how high it felt on a horse so I want to make sure i dont develop any bad habits from day 1

Hi Jennifer 😀 I’m so glad you found the video helpful! I do a lot of work with my horses focusing on relaxation and patience. Scarlet who is in this video and Crosby are both off the track thoroughbreds. Neither of them are naturally very patient. So I was very proud of what a good girl Scarlet was during this demonstration. Maybe in the future I can do more videos talking about the things I do to increase my horses relaxation and patience:)

Is it necessary to have totally flexible spine for horse riding? My spine is fused with metal rods from T9 to L4 vertebrae. I did walk n rising trot well. But im nt sure if i can do sitting trot, i found it difficult.

Hi it's a great video. Could you clarify about the pelvic neutral position. While seated you show us three positions for the pelvis- back, forward and neutral. But when laying down you find your neutral position by flattening lower back to the floor, which looks like a full forward posture. Thanks!
@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 3 года назад
Hi😀 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video.Great question:) My goal in showing the exercises lying on the ground is to help you feel that your core can stabilize your lower back. I found that many times when starting riding we don’t have enough core stability. A lack of corn engagement can lead to too much inward rotation of the pelvis. You don’t have to go to a full engagement like I did on the floor when riding. However getting that feeling of engaging your core can help you when you get in the saddle to have more stability:) I hope that makes sense and helps 💕

It's great that you post these videos to explain and help people. But, since you are teaching beginners, shouldn't you show them where in the saddle to sit, so that the saddle is balanced correctly? To me it looks like the saddle in this video is too small for you, and that to fit your long legs your seat gets pushed too far back in the saddle and you end up pushing the back of the saddle down into the horses back. I know this can be a big problem for taller riders, as they just need more room for their long legs. I normally wouldn't say anything, but since you seem to have a channel based on teaching what is correct, I thought it would be okay to point this out.

Hi😊 Thanks for reaching out. A correctly balanced saddle and where to sit in the saddle are wonderful topics to cover in a future video. The saddle and horse in this video are owned by a student of mine who is much shorter than me and very petite. So I agree that the saddle is not an ideal fit for me. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and these are things I will definitely consider in future videos.

Hi Warrick, Yes 👍 I teach riding lessons to both men and women. I teach both men and women to ride with a neutral pelvis. In this position you’re able to have the full range of motion with your pelvis and absorb the shock of the horses movement with more ease.
