Was it? Let's see, what did lefties do at the time of this movie being made (60s/70s)?: stir up discontent and try to seize the reigns of govt. And what did they do ever since? Change all society to their warped ways, including changing football from a game to escape reality into a leftist kneel and disrespect the flag spectacle.
When I was first listening to this and they sang, "You're a dastardly, ghastardly, schnastardly schnook," I had thought they'd said "bastardly" until I watched the cartoon with subtitles.
It's a brilliant bit of Seussian satire how they back Horton into a corner flinging far-fetched conspiracy accusations at him, then snatch the clover. Perfect for a cartoon produced when Richard Nixon was president.
Fun Fact - Wickersham and Chimpanzee have the same ten letter words and the closest primate to our DNA. I'm guessing Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) (RIP) based these fictional characters on these animal species while written and drawing them. Also, the film was directed and made by the late Chuck Jones (RIP) who also made and directed the 1960's Grinch Cartoon. He was also born in Spokane, Washington where I'm from.
1:15 I never paid attention to the Lyrics of this song that mostly I was so illiterate and didn't understand a lot of words. But wow, the last part of the songs lyrics.
@@kacmac2340wow if you cant see the parrarlels of the media making up lies about people and the wickersham brothers who lie about horton wanting to overthrow the jungle government then idk what to to tell you
@@WildDancer101 lol are you one of the Wickersham brothers? Terrified that people you don't understand are ruining your way of life and going to take over?
By God, the Wickersham Brothers nailed the efforts of the hippies back in the 60s/70s perfectly. They unironically had the right attitude, just misdirected at Horton.
This had never scared me particularly as a child, but watching it now, now that I understand what all the references, it's actually really, really disturbing... o.O
And shut our schools and steal our jewels And even change our football rules And take away our garden tools And lock us up in vestibules. But fortunately we're no fools. We're the Wickersham brothers and we know your type And we're putting a stop to this trickulous tripe. We're the Wickersham brothers. We're squashing your plot! There'll be no more talking to Whos who are not!
@@mikeax24Except Horton was right and Alex was wrong about basically everything he was blathering about. He’s literally getting his entire platform liquidated because he lied about the victims of a school shooting and caused their parents to be harassed and threatened by his schizophrenic audience.
The Wickersham Brothers are goons, neither less nor more. They're clearly enjoying their chance to assault and slander Horton; the Sour Kangaroo is the worst sort of "community protector," the kind of person who quite simply hates the existence or possible existence or even speculation about anything she does understand, accept, and approve.
As a kid I always thought they were trying to steal his spec because they have that sinister smile on their face. I always thought they were like “We’re going to steal your spec because we’re evil hahaha” instead of “Dude, bro to bro. You need to stop talking to that spec. You need to go get some help.”
See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil. 0:45 (Now, what do you suppose it means that they uncover their eyes, ears, and mouth in the following shot? A show of defiance against Horton to express that they won't let his supposed evil go unseen/-heard/-denounced, or symbolically betraying to the viewer that it is through being overvigilant in seeking out "evil" that they have fallen headlong into evil themselves? (...Either way, God, does revisiting this song - even though the more I think about the lyrics, the more genuinely dark and unsettling this whole scene gets - make me happy. 😄)
Here are the lyrics: Rot! Rot! Rot! Rot! It's a plot! Plot! Plot! Plot! We're the Wickersham brothers. We're on to your plot! Pretending you're talking to Whos who are not! It's a deep-dyed evil political plot Pretending you're talking to Whos who are not. We're the Wickersham brothers, we're vigilant spotters. Hotshot spotters of rotters and plotters. And we're going to save our sons and our daughters...from you.
We know what you’re up to pal You’re trying to shatter our morale You’re trying to stir up discontent And seize the reigns of government You’re trying to throw sand in 🛑
wb1: we know what your up to, pal. wb2: your tryin' to shatter our moral. wb3: your tryin' to stir up discontempt. all: and siese the raigns of goverment!
@streetswell Well I never saw the Wickersham Brothers untill I was 10. Even though these things are suppose to be scary, I always thought their little song in this part of the clip was pretty cool.
That's how a lot of bad situations start. Just trying to protect our families from interracial marriage because it is dangerous. Or homosexuality. Or different religious views. I guess that is the moral of this story. To over come ignorance of foreign ideas.
The sad thing is that they dont sound like there truely bad people... just an overprotective neighborhood watch association. While the motive may not make sense, the reasons do. They just want to defend thier families and way of life... and to do that they just want to commit genocide without realizing it.
It's the JUNGLE! How are there interest rates, politics, or even football?! Okay, I guess I can let football slide, but why have a government in the wildest places on the face of the Earth?!
You're a dastardly, ghastardly, schnastardly schnook Trying to brainwash our brains with this gobbledygook. We know what you are up to pal. You're trying to shatter our morale. You're trying to stir up discontent. And seize the reins of government. You're trying to throw sand in our eyes. You're trying to kill free enterprise. And raise the cost of figs and dates And wreck our compound interest rates.
And shut our schools 🏫 and steal our jewels 💎 and even change some football 🏈 rules take away our garden 🪴 tools ⚒️ and lock 🔒 us up in flashing fuels but fortunately we’re no fools
