Tonight at the Quick Speed Shop I have one last part to the Hot Dawg Heater setup. I am using a manometer to adjust the burner gas pressure. I go over the process and steps involved and show how to use a manometer. Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Saturday.

The first thing that stopped my hot dawg furnace after 5 years was the squirrel cage of the draft inducer, completely decengrated. Could not see that part as serviceable, without buying the whole unit. Made adapter for different shaft, hole size and used blower fan from another brand furnace. 29.00$ fix.

While searching RU-vid for a how to video I ran across your tutorial series on installing the Hot Dawg Heater. Thank you SO much for putting this video out. It has helped me tremendously as I tackle the same project. Also I must say I am really impressed with your knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship. WELL DONE SIR!

I got mine fired up the other day. Your videos were very helpful and I learned a ton during the process. Quite a process but I have heat now and saved tons of $$. The 100k btu version may be a little large for my 880 sq ft garage with 10ft ceilings! Heats very fast. I’m very glad I insulated well.

Hello! I wanted to let you know that I have followed your series from start to finish. I now have a Hot Dawg installed in my garage and it’s great. I’ve heard people say they are noisy, I don’t agree. I think they are fairly quiet. Anyway, thank you for all the work you put in to creating this great set of videos. Of special concern to me were the one on venting and the one on using a manometer. I’ve had no experience with either, you gave great instruction on how do them!

I worked in the oil and gas industry for over 40 years , just advice to you young man always put a 1/4 turn valve below your gauge if the gauge fails you will fill your shop with gas . and it makes it easier to change out the gauge.
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop Год назад
Thanks. I work on gas somewhat at work and usually do have valves under the guages. I just didn't have one to use here at home and figured if the gauge ever failed it wouldn't be a big deal to just turn everything off to swap it out.

Great series of videos. I have been playing with the idea of installing one myself and the videos that you have done are exceptional. At the present I am using a 30,000 btu vent less heater running off of 20 lb bbq tanks. I have 4 tanks and keep switching them out until I am on my last tank and then go exchange them. I have a 28' x 30' garage with no wall insulation and 7.5" of blown in insulation in the ceiling. Live in N Illinois and it does get pretty cold here. I only use the heat when I am actually in the garage but like you have said it sure would be nice to go out to a garage that is already at 40F. Again, nice series of videos!!!!

Thanks, I love mine and wish I had put it in 10 years ago. So far I have averaged $65 a month keeping it at 40 all the time and 55 when I work. That's usually about 20 hrs a week at 55. My garage is 28 x 38 and has R19 in the walls and 19-30 in the ceiling. A 60,000 btu would probably be fine for your garage without insulation.

Hello Tom. Just curious if the 30000 BTU gas heater you installed in your 28 by 30 shop has proven to be enough to heat that building?
@tomrum42
@tomrum42 3 года назад
@@QuickSpeedShop If the outside temp is in the 20F to 30F range when I light up the heater it takes about 20-30 mins to get the garage up to 45F-50F inside with the heat control turned all the way up. After it gets to around 50F (air temp) I usually turn the heat control (thermostat) down the just above the lowest setting and the garage will eventually end up getting to and maintaining around 60F, which is plenty warm for me to work with a flannel shirt on. It goes without saying that the concrete floor is still cold for a long time even though the air temperature is a nice working temp.

Kind of a good idea that you do have a gauge on the inlet just because you never know if something changes down the road but I guess your LP so whatever

It's awesome! I leave it set to 40F all the time and turn it up to 55F when I work. The first month of use cost me $52 in propane. I still would have been happy if it cost twice that much. It's so nice to walk into the garage and have it not be frozen. The heater is quiet and works well. I'm super happy with the performance of the unit and glad I finally got it up and working.

Cool video series. What part of the country are you in? I will need to put one of these in next year. Currently using electric heat in my shop and I think gas would be considerably cheaper. Running the numbers bear that out.
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop 5 лет назад
I'm in western NY. Gas, propane, or oil are more economical than electric. You can get the highest efficiency out of gas or propane. I would definitely suggest a fuel based heat source over electric unless you have an extremely cheap electrical rate where you live.

Did you ever do a follow up video of how it has been working and cost breakdown of running it?
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop 2 года назад
No, but its been running fine for 3 years. Costs me about $80/mo to heat garage. Well that was last couple of years. Have no idea what cost will be this winter now that Brandon's inflation and war on energy has destroyed the propane prices.

I've seen in some of your videoas what looks to be a brand new pole barn. Why not make that your full time shop?
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop 5 лет назад
That pole barn is new, but I use it for storage for my cars. My work garage is for dirty work and the pole barn will be for clean storage and displays. Hopefully I will be putting the concrete floor in the pole barn this spring so I can clean my working garage out so I'll have more room to work.

Hiya, It’s Dave again...I’m just curious as to why you didn’t adjust the outlet pressure (after the gas valve) as per the instructions included with the Hot Dawg ? I get why ya adjusted the inlet pressure from the outside regulator...but why are you using the outside regulator to adjust the outlet pressure (manifold side) ? Mine has an adjustment screw on the HD valve...Doesn’t yours have the screw on the HD valve itself ? Again, you’re (6) install videos are awesome 😎

I don't remember, that was over 2 years ago. I'm also not an expert, this is the only propane heater I have ever installed. I thought I did what the instructions said and verified with manometer. Been running fine ever since.

what is the other fitting used for on top of your meter on the left?
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop 2 года назад
I think it's used to test for vacuum. It has a negative symbol by it. I was using the plus side for the pressure. I borrowed the meter from an HVAC guy so I'm not an expert.
@Dalan612
@Dalan612 Год назад
It allows you to read pressure before the valve (inlet) with the negative side as well as after it (outlet) with the positive side simultaneously. It has multiple functions but typically for measuring static pressure across return and supply ductwork on a furnace and also commonly used for measuring gas pressures at inlet and outlet of gas valve to measure pressure drop.
@lewisbenjamin5298
@lewisbenjamin5298 Год назад
The gage actually reads differential pressure. The negative side is normally open to the atmosphere. Which gives you pressure in “gage pressure” when hooking up the positive side.
@Dalan612
@Dalan612 Год назад
@@lewisbenjamin5298 That is incorrect. But you can use it however you wish. You firstly need to zero the instrument to atmospheric pressure before use for an accurate reading... there is no need for a second atmospheric measurement after that has already been accomplished. Also, the proper spelling is "gauge" not gage.
@gabecompton235

What happens if there's too much pressure being used on that heater
@QuickSpeedShop

Too much pressure and it will consume too much gas and burn inefficiently.
