by far the in car footage is the best :) they should have 80% in car 20% out car footage in races in the future ! i would be more interested for sure that way :D
It's not the PDK. It is a race-only sequential manual gearbox, it still uses a clutch pedal but only from a dead stop. Similar to how a sport bike motorcycle transmission works, you really only need the clutch when taking off from a stop or coming to a stop.
Lol@wiper question. No need for wipers if there is no significant source of light to refract. At 1:00 back on power he short shifts a gear. I see he has a good run exiting and it is down hill. Is that due to wet, -g's, and medium/high speed track section? Avoiding the max torque purposely due to risk/reward situation. Driver reply wanted, informed responses welcomed.
Just read through all the comments so I'll answer some questions. First of all, it is not *required* to use clutch on downshifts but it is MUCH better on equipment. So for the box's sake, I use the clutch. For the people commenting on my aggression with the shifter, that is also better for the box. If you aren't "assertive" with it, it can get a false neutral or bounce out of gear. The short shifting is exactly that, a manual TC. Also need the higher gear to settle the car for the rain. Thanks!
Don't you worry yourselves about using the clutch on the down changes.......i'd be worrying about the safety of the gearstick! Much more slamming it forward like that and he won't be changing 'any' gears!! Smoother on the power coming through some of those longer corners would work better for him too! Just saying!
I like COTA. I like the not to Mazda Laguna Seca with t1. But i do agree with a previous comment. I wished there was an iconic r130, eau rouge, or mags/becs/chap type turn or complex. Sector 1 esses are a little bland.
good evening. I may be wrong on the matter but I do not believe he is correct and downshifting do not require the clutch. I searched dog box downshifts and it yielded the method (that the author claims is faster than using the clutch) to downshift without the clutch.
he's racing in the wet so of course he'll use the clutch otherwise he'll just lock up even if it is a dog box the combination of engine and actual brake pad braking will just lock the rears, but in the dry I think he'll just smash it down the box! ;)
I wouldn't think any race driver would want to race in the rain. I would rather race on a dry course than in the rain. You have to dial everything back and constantly deal with over-steer and under steer.
lol It's nice to see we still have defenders if the village idiots on here. I m assuming your a teenager. Plain and Plane are different. if we keep diluting the English language with words that "sound" like what we are trying to say, but aren't actually the correct words, pretty soon all people will be able to do is text and tweet. It's not difficult to learn the difference between plain and plane. I was merely helping out because obviously he was a kid, and he didn t seem to mind.
