Don’t get ice or heat for back pain & neck pain wrong! The wrong choice can increase your pain. Heat therapy can relax muscles but can also increase inflammation (so if your neck or back is inflamed it can make it worse). New research indicates that icing can reduce the healing time of soft tissue, so an ice pack for injuries isn’t a good option. But most back pain and neck pain comes from spinal joint irritation, not injury or soft tissue damage, so ice can be a good option when choosing between hot & cold pack for back pain & neck pain.
