Salt Bars with Coconut Milk Lye Solution
Formula: 45 oz oil weight
21% Coconut Oil
6% Castor Oil
46% Olive Oil
11% Mango Butter
16% Palm Oil
36% water
7% superfat (in formula) and 2% post cook of Apricot Kernel Oil)
30% of oil weight (13.50 oz) Pink Himalayan Salt added post cook.
Oils + 2 TBS of white kaolin clay were heated to 181 while the lye solution was only 119 due to frozen coconut milk used as liquid for dissolving the lye. After adding lye solution to heated oils, my temperature was 141, so I didn't consider this to be high temperature hot process, but rather a standard crock pot cook. Regardless, it only took 10-12 minutes to reach Vaseline stage. Post cook, I added 2 TBS of yogurt (room temperature), 3 oz of warm coconut milk that I reserved from the cook, 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar, 2 TBS of sodium lactate (these were stirred together and kept warm before adding). My extra superfat was also kept warm on the stove and added post cook, as was my fragrance blend. I added the salt to the entire base, then mixed a portion of soap to color in separate container and colored with rhubarb root powder. It did turn an ugly brown color, but it changed to a pretty pink while cooling. Cut after 5 hours in the freezer.

Thank you so much, Teacher Valerie, for this tutorial🙏🙏🙏🙇🙇🙇 Teacher Valerie, can I use cocoa butter or shea butter to replace mango butter? I mean, will those two butters affect the white batter, turning it into a tan shade? Thank you very much in advance, Teacher Valerie!🙇🙇🙇🙏🙏🙏 I missed your uploads! Luckily, I check your channel every now and then! I'm so very happy to be able to learn from you again! Thank you🙇🙇🙇🙏🙏🙏

I appreciate your support and I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I'm sure you can swap the butters out, just be sure to run the formula through soap calc. I think the color will be ok IF you have the refined butters.

@@valerieholdrensoapundergro9357 Thank you for teaching me, Teacher Valerie🙇🙇🙇🙏🙏🙏 If refined butters are more suitable, then I'll stick to mango butter. I prefer raw and unrefined butters, always go to the original. Once again, thank you, Teacher Valerie🙇🙇🙇🙏🙏🙏

Eek! Please don’t scrape the metal bell of your stick blender on your crock pot 😮 Not only sounds dreadful but you’ll be scratching your cooker 😢. Am curious to know if your first Milk Soap’s milk was unfrozen, to get such a reaction? // The very second soap I made was a Milk, I froze the milk quotient, and the resultant diminished lye fumes inspired me to freeze all my liquids since. That was 14 years ago…no going back. Your Salt Bar sounds luscious - wonderful ingredients. Actually Coconut 🥥 Oil is ‘cleansing’ as opposed to drying. If you use a 20% sf for your Coconut Oil quotient you’ll account for that extra cleansing quality and create a more nourishing bar 😊. I’ll do that in my Salt bars and leave any other oils/butters at 5% - it just requires an extra calculation. Worth a try. 😊// Looking forward to seeing how your bars turn out, as I’m only part of the way through your video. 🌸
