During our hot summer time (yes it can be very warm downton Montreal sometimes!), I love to make a quick cold salmon, dill cucumber, fennel and arugula salad. I simply thinly slice a cucumber and a fennel bulb. For the dressing, I combine olive oil, a squeeze of lemon juice, fresh dill (or the fennel leaves), a teaspoon of old-fashionned mustard, and a bit of maple syrup (or honey, or any sugar of your choice!). I combine all the ingredients together with the salmon and I serve it on arugula. Voilà! Perfect for a last minute week-day dinner. Simple humble ingredients, made in no-time yet DE-LI-CIOUS! Thank you Bart for your great fish & seafood recipes - I love watching your videos.

Bart's Fish Tales - This is why I look forward to friday mornings. What a simple, elegant and delicious recipe. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks Bart. The only think I would change would be to add a little lemon zest and juice to the melted butter to give everything a bit of freshness and zing and to cut through the richness.

Being a student, my cooking knowledge and experience isn't amazing but I do have a favorite salmon recipe that's both simple and delicious. It consists of placing a salmon skin on aluminum foil, seasoning it with pepper, salt, dried herbs and placing sliced lemons and butter on top. The foil is folded and placed on a grill. I always use a fairly low heat for a soft and silky texture. After grilling for around 20-30 minutes. During the last 5-10 minutes, I open the aluminum foil to pour a bit of Chardonnay inside and place a few parsley stems around the fish . Then I close the foil again and let it finish grilling. Served with a war , grilled baguette with garlic butter and capers, it's a perfect year-round meal for dinner and a specially enjoyable one for summer evening :)

My favourite way to use tinned salmon is in fish cakes. I use a couple of eggs, couple tablespoons of flour, spring onions, garlic, parsley and salt/pepper. I eat it with steamed fresh potatoes, steamed asparagus and finely chopped carrots on the side. As sauce I use the oil from the pan :) dead simple, dead easy and very healthy. Have a nice, day and thanks for the video.

My favorite way to eat tinned salmon: I dont have the exact measurments, but I make a simple teryaki sauce, some fresh herbs and mix it with noodles(or spaghetti if I dont have any noodles) and the salmon. Then sprinkle some fresh spring onions and roasted seasam seeds on top for presentations. I also love to have some kind of woked vegetables for a side dish. Great and a amazing way to use tinned salmon. Tastes like heaven. Also, congratulations on your book launch! Looking forward for more amazing recipies and inspiration from you!

Upvoted! Both salmon and asparagus are favourites of me... and the eggs and melted parsley butter give the dish a classic touch! I never tried it with smoked salmon, tho... That's the new idea I take away from your video, thanks! ...and I never eat tinned salmon, not even in salads, sorry! I microwave fresh salmon in such a case (2 times 20sec with 3 minutes in between). Perfect flakiness and never overcooked.

Mix arugula with lemon juice and sea salt then place the bed of greens on a plate. Place tin salmon (mash it a little to bite sized pieces) on top of arugula with some capers and finish off with a little bit of red wine vinegar and shaved parmesan/little balls of buffalo mozzarella goes well with this dish too. I like using canned salmon with oil instead of it in brine, because it saves me from drizzling more olive oil on my plate of salad, and the oil from the can gives it a nice finish and taste, I only use a little of the oil, not all of it. Perfect for dinner when you're too tired to cook after a whole day of work, and somewhat healthy too! I used to be skeptical about canned fishes (in general) but now I seem to love them, easy to use when you're out of fresh salmon in your fridge. :)

My favorite canned salmon recipe: Salmon salad melt. I use canned wild, red sockeye salmon and create a salmon salad by combining it with red onion, avocado, fresh dill, some mayonnaise, salt and pepper, and I add a Caribbean scotch-bonnet pepper-based hot sauce for flavor and kick. Generously spread the salmon salad onto each half of an everything bagel, or english muffin, or slice of sourdough bread with crust. Add thinly sliced tomato and swiss or cheddar cheese slice to the top, place under broiler for just about 5 minutes. Amazing :D

Salmon and fennel pasta, really easy to make and perfect for a week day. Sweating some finely diced garlic and onion on a low heat til soft. some thyme and roughly chopped fennel (without the green bits) when tender adding the (tinned or fresh) salmon and a bit of heavy cream (salt and pepper to taste). Toast some fennel seeds in a separate pan while cooking the pasta. Combine the pasta with the sauce and add the chopped fennel green and toasted fennel seeds. Enjoy =)

Because of me being a poor student I don't get much fish. But when I do I often like to make either a risotto with salmon and limon or a simple pasta with cherry tomatoes, salmon and a bit if olive oil. And maybe a bit of basil leaves on top. But honestly I'm way better at cooking with canned tuna :-)

Love what you do Bart! So looking forward to your new cookbook. And I'll be making this recipe for dinner tonight ;) One of my favorite recipes for tinned/smoked salmon is really a non-recipe. Avocado + Toast + Onion + Salmon + Aleppo, Salt, and Pepper. Delish. Sometimes I even go nuts and add a spot of basil pesto. Side salad to round it out and dinner is done!

Modular Fast Canned Fish Pasta (Salmon, Tuna, or Sardines work great) This recipe can be easily adapted to use up little bits of anything leftover. Make sure to verify the contents of your canned tomatoes if you decide to use them. Cook time is around 16 minutes start to finish. 1. Begin boiling water. Continue with the recipe as you wait for it to boil. Once it boils, add salt and return it to boil. Add oil if boiling in a smaller pan. Add the pasta (I like penne for this). Boil the pasta, stirring every 2 minutes or so, until 1 minute under package directions. Drain the pasta, but do not wash it. 2. Olive oil in a pan (if your fish came in olive oil, use that) Note: Don't be stingy with the olive oil, it is one of the main flavor components of the dish 3. Add chile or chile paste for heat, and if you are using dried herbs, use them after the oil is slightly heated up. Oregano, basil, a single bay leaf, anything you would want with pasta that isn't overpowering to seafood. Also add any long cooking vegetables you might want to add with a pinch of salt to draw out moisture. (I will often use half a medium onion or bell peppers). 4. Cook those on medium heat until softened. This will be very fast if no vegetables were added. 5. Add chopped/minced garlic to taste. I usually use between 3-5 cloves. 6. After one minute, add the canned fish. Break it up slightly to integrate the other ingredients. 7. After 2-3 minutes, add one tin of tomatoes. You can use fresh tomatoes chopped up here if you fancy, but cans are convenient. Keep in mind that your canned tomatoes may come with herb in them. Adjust accordingly. 8. If you like a smoother texture, use a masher to crush the tomatoes. Add fresh herbs if you use them. Reduce the liquid content until there is only some left for the pasta to finish cooking in and absorb. Taste for seasoning. Add salt and pepper as desired. 9. Add the drained pasta and mix slightly. Let the pasta finish cooking and absorb the majority of the liquid left over. You can add a splash of milk here to give a more inviting color and mellow out the heat of the chiles if desired. 10. Serve with Parmesan if desired. You could even finish it in the oven with cheese or breadcrumbs on top if you want to play with textures.

I go classic: pasta (penne, ... just not spaghetti) cooked al dente, add the zest and juice of 1 lemon with some olive oil and a little basil and some lachs (tinned salmon is hard to come by over here in switzerland) + salt/pepper. let it sit for a few minutes until the pasta has absorbed some of the lemony flavor and serve :)

It's hard for me to choose my favorite way to use tinned salmon. I've made delicious salmon cakes with them, and they were so delicious! It added a great flavor. :) Anyway, as always - it looks delicious!!

Hi Bart, Here's a tinned salmon recipe I created that's great for the holidays or for dinner parties. It's a Sockeye Salmon Cheese Ball or Log. Drain most of the liquid from one can of sockeye salmon, reserving one TBSP of the canning liquid and bring 250g of cream cheese to room temp. Beat room temp. cream cheese with a spoon until soft, mix in sockeye salmon and 1 TBSP canning liquid, add 1 TBSP finely minced shallot, white pepper to taste and 2 TBSP. chopped fresh parsley. Usually the tinned salmon has enough salt so that no additional salt is needed. Mix together and refrigerate for an hour. Take out of the fridge and form into a ball or log, roll into chopped, toasted almonds. Serve with a variety of crackers or firm breads.

tinned salmon recipe? my husband makes delicious simple salmon patties, but i make a salmon salad that i grew up with that is simple, economical and i think delicious. its so simple it may not warrant a recipe. my mom would feed a family of four with this recipe. first you hard boil, or soft boil if that is your preference, four eggs (one per person). then you make pot of white rice. you take a can of tinned salmon and open it. you drain the salmon and if it has bones you can remove them, then place in the center of a platter. i like using an oval platter for presentation. then take lettuce, any kind of lettuce and place in bite-sized pieces around the perimeter of your salmon. remember this is to feed three to four people so use plenty. then take two or three tomatoes and cut into wedges and place on top of the lettuce around the perimeter of the salad. finally you take the hopefully now cooled and shelled hard boiled eggs and slice in half and arrange around the perimeter of the salad interspersed between the tomatoes. then serve everyone some rice and let them help themselves to the salad, which our family put on top of the rice with a drizzle of olive oil. we didn't use any lemon or acidic component, but i'm sure that's optional.
